People, realize that these books are free because the are no longer under copywrite law, sheesh. Please don't lower your quality by ever having Twilight vampire series here not even in a 100 years. That off my chest-- this is a 5 star ap for content alone. I have 3 boys and we listen to story after story here with gusto. Howard Pyle's Robinhood is so great for boys to hear good English being spoken. My little boy begs for all animal stories! You can search by genre, topic, title, author, keyword, awesome! Great app for a homeschool family to utilize since the library does not or will not carry these lovely old titles. Thank you!

This is a very well designed app and I use it every day. I've been listening to the classics while I work and it's the best thing ever. Easy to use and tons of titles on the public domain. If you want to catch up on the classics or love to explore old books you'll really love Audiobooks. I decided to buy the paid app because the free one kept stalling and I'd lose my place in the book, but that has not happened to me with the paid version. Love it!

Since I read the description and some of the reviews I knew that this was Librivox books (read by volunteer narrators and only books from the public domain) so I was not disappointed with the selection of titles or quality of readers. It was worth the $1 over the free version to be able to store the books locally since I use an iTouch and can't stream the books when I'm not somewhere with WiFi. I'm listening to Secret Garden and have Count of Monte Cristo ready to go next. Totally worth a hundred pennies. :)

Missing the point?

Some people seem to be missing the point; these audio books are FREE. They have to be out of copyright or they're NOT FREE - that's why there are no recent books. If you want recent books, buy them! The narrators aren't great but they're volunteers so all credit to them for giving their time so the rest of us can listen to an extensive literary collection. Perhaps some of the critics could do with reading some of our great works of literature.

Before you buy it I suggest testing out the free version just to make sure you like what you're getting. Also take into consideration that this app is for classic books not Twilight. I think what most people dont understand is that these audioboooks are NOT read from MODERN BOOKS like Twilight or Angels & Demons, but CLASSIC BOOKS by such authors such as Mark Twain. Classic novels like "The Secret Garden", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", and "Grimm's Fairytales" are only a few of the wonderful selections of audiobooks. For only one dollar this was well worth the money for the thousands of Classic audiobooks I can get from this application. I really love it.

If you like free audiobooks there is no other app that compares to this one. For those complaining about cost: you must be a cheapo;For those complaining about book selection: no other app has this large of a selection;For those complaining about the readers/voices: get a life these are volunteers who are willingly giving their time etc., for the public use;For those complaining about funtionality: you need help because this is as simple as they come;For those complaining about anything else: go buy the book for $10+ bucks and spare us the whining.A simple cost-benefit analysis will lead any reasonable person to conclude this is an extraordinarily useful app at a phenominal price.

I really like this app and if it updates to allow the book to continue in the background so I can do other things and still listen I will return and put up that last star. As for the selection and quality of the books how can anyone complain? These are all public domain and read by volunteers. There is a wide selection of some great titles. If one is missing maybe you should see if you can help out I stead of posting complaints here.

Excellent way to "consume" the classics. Not having to read lets you hear these great books while otherwise occupied and the scope and variety of books is worth many times the price.There are only two problems.1: the readers are not held to professional standards. In some pauses of my first book i could hear a radio. It didnt bother me, but some may not like it.2: there is no background play available. I went, at first to give this a 5 star review and the book stopped playing. Other audio based apps can do background play, why not this? I would sacrifice 100 books for this optionJust to clarify, you can turn off your screen, you just cant go to the home page of your phone/touch

This is a great application. When I found the original I was using it daily on my walk and when I found out that I could no longer do it with the old version I bought the new one without hesitation. 99 cents in very little to pay for all the free books you can download. The great books I read in high school are all there and I am now listening to them again (for free). Now instead of listening to music I "read a book" during my walk. Negatives - a few weak narrators and it takes a long time to down load the books.

Once downloaded, the audio boks are great to listen to. Al audiobooks are from librivox and state this at beginning of each chapter. Some books have different people reading each chapter and there are a mix of Australian and American accents. I could not listen to any chapters while the remainder of the book was being downloaded. However, a book of E Gaskell had 61 chapters and took around an hour to download. Worthwhile for being able to use outside of wifi areas. Try the free version to listen on line before purchase.

I'm not sure why this app has so many low ratings but I've thoroughly enjoyed using it. It says in the app description that the audiobooks are from Librovox which is a non-profit group that works tirelessly to read public domain literature for an audio format. You have to remember the readers are just volunteers and with that in mind you can still find some well read classics. I just installed the new update and it does look quite snappy. I hope to see continued improvement.My only criticism is that searching through librovox massive library is SLLOOOWWW. Otherwise, an overall good app for just .99.

Utilizing the librivox archives of audiobooks was a brilliant idea for an app. Some suggestions however. - improve the "now playing" interface by allowing us to move around in a recording easier. If I want to skip 10 minutes into a chapter it takes 20 clicks plus small pauses after each. - any way we can get a "reviews" section in there? Would be nice to see what others say about the quality of an audiobook recording especially when there are multiple versions of the same book up there. - remove the "other apps" button from the paid version. We just bought this app. Why advertise your other app that has less audiobooks?Keep up the great work!

I have listened to Treasure Island (version 2) twice. I am half way through The Mysterious Island and can honestly say I am 100% satisfied. I can see how a bad reader would make for a grueling listen.
