Developers...  rating of Borders eBooks
By: BrokenCylon - Jul 11, 2010
Version: 3.2
7.11.10Update: Well, here we are on day three of the "5 free top-50 titles but not really three day d/l festival"...Same issues different day, I went against my five screenshot app d/l rule (usually I don't d/l an app w/less than the max five screenshots, why some devs don't put five, I have no idea...it's not that difficult & shows me that they want to show me their app) & d/l'd it anyway b/c I'm an avid reader...I guess I made out better than some, I did get 2/5 free top-50 but not really titles on early Friday when the app was at it's closest to functioning properly...I'm going to wind up in therapy over this app, I'm calling Steve...7.10.10Update: Still experiencing difficulties...Un/Reinstalled app & that fixed the crash (for now), but today "The Alchemyst" still appears on the list, but when redirected to Safari it states that it is not a valid address :(... What a total bummer, so I decided to try a "Reacher" novel, even though I have no idea who this Reacher guy is or what he's been up to, but what the hey...So I do the whole data entry process & whutta'ya know, I got a "unable to complete request"...c'mon Borders/Devs/I.T. dept...Don't make me call Steve!!!7.09.10My rating is based on the fact that when it doesn't crash it's a good app...I was able to install the app successfully, I waited until today b/c if you d/l the app btwn June 9-11 you get to d/l five select titles from the top 50 (although, there are only 5-6 selected titles) for free...yes, you are required to enter a valid credit card, but it is not charged for titles w/a "$0.00" price under them (I believe B&N also requires this, I'm not certain about Kindle)...That being said, the devs need to be aware of a few things, so that they may fix them: After I d/l'd the app, I went to the online store & d/l'd my first free title, then the second...after that I d/l'd a preview of one of the free top 50 titles & went to give it a peak...even though the pages were all there, there was nothing on them, it showed the contents when I tapped that tab, but still all pages were vacant...then when I went to go & delete the preview & go back to the online store to just d/l the free title, the app crashed & I have yet to get it to open, even after I rebooted my iPad...I just wanted to give a chain of events, so that it may help the developers remedy this problem (& hope that it is fixed b/f the 11th, so that I can still get my last three free select titles, currently I'm 2/5)...

E-reader  rating of Borders eBooks
By: sirromalemap - Jul 14, 2010

This app works great with my itouch. The first time I used it it synced up with my past purchases and e-books from other sites. Their right there on my bookshelf. The part for an itouch user is I don't have to be connected to the internet to get access to my books! Now, BORDERS... give me a free e-book download when I purchase the book in your store. That would really entice me to go out a buy books both in the store and on the e-reader site.

Smooth install & book retrieval  rating of Borders eBooks
By: Sparky McMuffin - Jul 13, 2010
Version: 3.2
Perhaps others ran into server issues, but I had no problems getting books. I installed the app and logged into my account. I then logged into my account in Safari. Loaded the free book promo page and downloaded each book. Went back to the app and they were all there. The app's GUI is clean & slick looking. Navigation is similar to Stanza. Syncing with their server was painless. I do feel the app is too sluggish on my iPhone2G compared to all the other major reading apps. There is a beat between turning pages, as if the app has to handshake over a network for each page. The text is a wee bit small, and worse, there are no prefs to alter display in app or in System Prefs. Bookmarks appear outside the book icon showing novels in process, but there is no method to leave more than one bookmark, notes, or highlights over text. Overall, very 1.0, but a good first step. Glad to see Borders finally jump into this eSpace. (I have given the app an extra star to offset all the one star reviews.)

Works Okay, Has a Few Glitches  rating of Borders eBooks
By: HollyDay - Jul 12, 2010
Version: 3.2
I almost didn't download this based on bad reviews. But since Borders is offering a few free (recently published) eBooks right now, I was determined to at least try it. It took a while to sort out how to get the Borders ebooks on the app, but I succeeded. Here is how mine worked on the iPad: 1. Download the app from iTunes. 2. Go to Borders.com from Safari/your choice of browser (not the app itself!)3. Sign up (free) for OR log into your Borders.com account. 4. Go to the eBooks tab on the website.5. Type in the name of the ebook you're looking for.6. Once you locate the book, click the "buy and download" or, in case of free ebooks, "add to your library".7. Once the transaction is complete (it will tell you that the book is in your library), go BACK to the Borders app.8. If you had already logged into your account on the app before downloading/purchasing books on the Borders website, LOG OUT.9. Now log back into the app account (has to be same as the website login, obviously), then check your Library. Books should show up there! When you do the log in/log out as stated above for the first time, that seems to fix the app/website sync issues for good. I didn't have to do that every time. Note: Trying to download the free ebooks/or purchasing ebooks via the app only took me to a Safari site for Borders via Kobo, and no matter how many times I entered my credit card and personal info, I kept getting error messages (i.e. "unable to process at thus time. Please try again later"). This WAS frustrating, until I figured out the above steps. BY THE WAY, you need only to enter credit card purchases on the Borders website to make purchases and add to your ebook library. I recommend that route, instead of making purchases via the app (or Kobo), as that was definitely glitchy. Glitches obviously include the above extra steps. The purchases through Kobo via the app is glitchy/does not work well, so please FIX. Additional requests for updates might include the option to move books around (drag/drop) according to one's choice within the library, not just based on author/title/most recently read. I looked through the ebooks, and this is a nice enough app, so good job to the developers...but a few fixes would be in order. It's really not a bad app at all and the extremely negative feedbacks are harsh/unnecessary. I'm happy to add yet another book app to my iPad, including Kindle, iBooks, and CloudReader (which has its own set of problems!). Overall, though, not a bad app at all.

Great Reader Software  rating of Borders eBooks

The reader software is great. I was able to purchase the books after a few tries. I think their servers were a bit overwhelmed on the first day.

Great App!  rating of Borders eBooks

Had NO trouble with app, downloading books, the prices ARE discounted from in-store. The format is great and easy to read. I have a feeling some of these reviews are from rivals cause I've experienced none of the problems they're talking about.

Nice app  rating of Borders eBooks

I have to wonder why people are having so many problems w this app. I've got it on 3 devices, downloaded the free books as well as over 50 other free "classics" both without any difficulty or spending a single cent. Perhaps it's the users not the app.

I really like the Borders e-book app. I love the all-in-one reader plus e-store approach. I hope to see a sepia page option with the next update.

Wasn't hard to download or get books  rating of Borders eBooks
By: casrgseal - Jul 9, 2010
Version: 3.2
This is only my 4th app to download and it was quick and painless. I followed the link from the free book email to my browser, signed in and downloaded the ebooks from my ebook shelf in the borders site to my phone. You can't download from the app. You have to go to the webpage. Way easier than many of these posts made it seem.

FYI  rating of Borders eBooks
By: JennTiger - Jul 6, 2010
Version: 2.0
The reason for the bugs thus far is simply because the app and site will not be offiially launched until July 7. The only version fully ready and bug free is available for the Kobo eReader. Desktop apps should be fully functioning now, as well. iPhone, iPad and other devices able to install the app won't be completely up until this week.

Better than kindle and b&n version  rating of Borders eBooks
By: Didisinned - Jun 22, 2010
Version: 2.0
The Interface is definitely better than the kindle ebook reader and the barnes and noble reader. Simple to use, very snappy, and very attractive. Some of the other reviewers comments were a bit off... The reason why you can't find Harry potter books is because The author chose not to release it in ebook format.Definitely recommend it, but still think iBooks UI is better.

Been waiting for this  rating of Borders eBooks
By: Xendula - Jun 21, 2010

Because I prefer the Borders Rewards program to B&N's one, so I hope that the coupons can be used on ebooks as well soon, which would give it an advantage over the competition.I gave it 4 stars because the ability to highlight and annotate is missing. Once you add this, I'll update my rating.

Kobo on Steroids  rating of Borders eBooks
By: Pete Mayhem - Jun 21, 2010

This app is great. It is just a more polished version of the Kobo eBook Reader (That is also free in the market) but with a more robust eBook seller.
