Reviews:
GREAT after 09/03-ish update!!! By: SunWaker - Sep 4, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 I've had this app since the 3G release date, and I have to say I hated it for a long time. Almost deleted it because it would never recognize names and you couldn't set it to dial automatically. I had not used it since then due to these issues, but after I updated it and read Bach-maniac's review to speak fast into it, it has worked FLAWLESSLY, finding contacts with long names pronounced in foreign accents. I don't know if this is due to the update or change in strategy but who cares - it works! Also, now there is also an option such that it is confused between multiple contacts it shows you all options (instead of just showing a wrong one) and you can select the right one from the list. Finally, you can now set it to dial automatically immediately after it finds a contact. About not being able to dial from the home screen/via bluetooth, come on people, that is due to restrictions apple placed on the iphone. No developer can be blamed for that. Rate it for how well it does what it is supposed to do, given what apple allows it to do. Though I would also love it if someone figured a way to dial directly from speaking into a bluetooth headphone, I will not lower my rating for that. If you tried this before and hated it I would highly recommend you try it again, and just be sure to speak fast.
Quite a nice improvement. By: ChasRD - Sep 20, 2008 Version: 1.5.0.0 The prior app worked well and this one works significantly better. This app, like moset voice recognition apps, requires some training and adjustment on the part of the user. However, once its operation is learned, it works quite well. Contrary to several reported reviews, it DEFINITELY WILL AUTO DIAL. This is a selectable option and is initially (and wisely) turned off. I am getting close to perfect match.
It's come a LONG way By: na9d - Sep 21, 2008 Version: 1.5.0.0 This app has come a long way in a short time. Accuracy is much improved and is getting better as the system is constantly analyzing voice patterns and learning as you go. You can auto dial now. You can tell it which number (is: call Jim Smith mobile). At first I was unimpressed with the app and thought I would never use it. Given the improvements and the support of the devlopers at AdelaVoice, this is becomming more and more useful of an app. If you want a voice dial/recognition product this is hard to beat.
Uh... By: Señor - Oct 7, 2008 Version: 1.5.2.0 The people complaining about how it's not actually "hands free" are mind-numbingly stupid. You have to find the app. Duh. You have to press the button that takes up the entire screen. And then you can turn on auto dial so it calls the number right away. However, voice dialer gives you the luxury of seeing the name first so you dont make the mistake of calling the wrong person like you would with other voice dialing phones. If you cannot handle this application while driving, you should not be given the right to drive.EDIT: I've noticed the reason this product doesn't work is that it for some reason is not compatible with the mic built into your headphones. Works perfect on the iphone's mic.
Works great! By: CapeCodGrand - Oct 21, 2008 Version: 1.5.2.0 I use this app all the time. Recognizes my contacts no problem. It is so simple to use. The rather large "speak contact" button is great because you can hit it without looking at phone. Feature where it "beeps" (and even shakes a little bit from the beep) tells you when the contact is found. New version is much faster than old version too. Doesn't need to be connected to the 3G network anymore either. Just moved this one to my main app screen! A must have for the iPhone traveller!
Best software in the app store By: Gwaltnak - Jul 26, 2008 Version: 0.9.1 Not exactly a voice dialer, more like a voice automated contacts locater, however it fills a huge void left by apple. For safety reasons alone, everybody should install this software. A lot of good a bluetooth headset does if you aren't even looking at the road because you are trying to dial or look for a contact. I have been using it a couple of days and have only had 1 incorrect result. You can't go wrong for the price, give it a try!
Great piece of software!! By: JABR - Aug 22, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 I have tried this software for 2 days now. As we all know, speech recognition needs learning and this software is pretty good at it. The first day it failed to recognize names about 50% of the time and the second day it failed only on "hard" names (such as Schmitz) and occasionally on an easy one (such as Google). I would say that now the recognition is close to 90%. To get around the hard to recognize names use the nickname feature in Contacts that SpeechCloud can take advantage of nicely. My input is GET IT!
Must-have for iPhone! By: sbondi - Aug 21, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 Get the latest release to have VERY accurate voice auto-dialing with a great user interface! If you want, you can easily configure a delay before auto-dialing to give you the chance to change the phone number or abort. In this optional interim screen, the phone numbers for the matched contact use large buttons that are very readable at a glance. This would be worth $10, but it is currently free! Note: With very accurate voice analysis, it is typical to use a web service that goes out to a powerful server to process the information before returning to the iPhone. This means that it will take a little time to analyze before bringing up (or auto-dialing) the matched contact. With a wireless connection, it is almost immediate. With a good 3G connection, it has a relatively insignificant delay. With Edge and GPRS connections, the delay (before bringing up the matched contact) becomes more noticeable. I imagine that in the future, they may be able to pre-process contact information (once in a while) on the server and pass back this pre-processed info to the iPhone app, so that if a connection is not fast enough, it can use a lesser approximation of the voice analysis that runs on the iPhone (and does not need the connection). This could be a user-selectable option to use the less-accurate voice matching when the connection is deemed "weak".
AdelaVoice's servers By: p8are - Aug 22, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 I downloaded the app this morning & keep getting an error MSG saying AdelaVoice's servers are down when I hold down the button as directed. Anyone else getting this today? UPDATE: I emailed support and they responded to me in a timely manner and were able to resolve the issue. The support is very responsive & very helpful. The app worked great. It definitely helps if you have a lot of contacts. If you're having issues I highly recommend emailing their support. They'll do what they can to resolve issues.
Terrific app that saves me time By: RunningFast08 - Oct 18, 2008 Version: 1.5.2.0 This app saves me a ton of time and is really easy to use. I have lots of contacts (over 800) and I just say a contact name and it dials it automatically. Believe me, I've tried other dialers on the iPhone, they just don't work with that many contacts. I just learned about the nickname feature, makes it easy to call my son's school (which has a long name that the app sometimes doesn't get). Don't fully understand why anyone would give this app less than 5 stars. For five bucks, it saves me time and makes dialing a lot safer. Also, a trick for noisy environments is to hold the phone close to your mouth. In normal cases, I don't do this. but in my car with the window down, it works much better this way. Also, self training feature is cool. Suggestions for features: add bluetooth, support groups of contacts and put icon in phone application so it is quicker to get to it (not sure if you can do this). Moving app to home screen...

Works Perfectly! By: macman123456 - Jan 25, 2009 Version: 2.0.0.0 I assume that people dont assume that for it to dial, they have to press the auto-dial in the screen that you can see in the preview, from there you have to turn it on and it even allows you to set up how many seconds it delays dialing. The app works perfectly, the first couple times i did it silently so it would hear my voice and then turned up the television quite loud and the app still recognized all my commands, as the person commented before me, you have to talk normally not slow. The app is awesome! everyone should get it, im surprised its free!
Much Improved By: west43rd - Aug 26, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 Since this was free, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and waited to review it. And I was not disappointed after the last couple updates hit. No voice recognition dialer I've ever used has been 100%. Some names are just too hard. But this one gets nearly all my more reasonable contact names and many of my harder ones, plus provides a completely usable workaround for those that it doesn't get by providing the new nickname function. I'm also very impressed by the user defined options for auto-dial. I hate when a dialer assumes things and I love being able to add a delay for dialing and turn it off when I don't need it. I'm still floored that this is a free app. I find no need for anything else. This does the trick and I highly recommend giving it a whirl. Just remember to speak normally at normal speed. It works great. Bob
Installed & works fine. By: DebShadovitz - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 0.9.1 Maybe there were problems earlier but it installed fine for me. It explains itself well. If you don't hold the button long enough it tells you. Kudos on a nice interface. Tip: say the full name to locate your person. Note: if you have several numbers for a person it shows them all. The good thing is that you just touch the desired number shown rather large. Nice. If you don't want that extra read, maybe set up extra contacts using nicknames and just one number. It may be slow. I have 2420 contacts so I assume that is why.
Great App By: Music_Reviewer6 - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 0.9.1 It's absolutely ridiculous that this app's average rating is 1 star. The people that gave it one star for the sole reason that they 'can't download it' have no clue what they are doing. It had issues (like every other app here) with downloading because of the iTunes server. It's not the developers fault people, stop hurting app ratings simply because you are too impatient to wait for the server bugs to clear up! If you agree with me, please help by reporting comments that one star apps simply because of download issues.
Acceptable, surprisingly accurate By: Hogermite - Aug 1, 2008 Version: 0.9.3 To the person who said this was hilariously inaccurate, I have I say my experience was much different. I tried 5 different names and had the app find 4 correctly. I can only see a true use for this if you have a large list of contacts as the time it takes for this program to load and find the right name could be spent simply finding it in your contacts. However, I was impressed with the simplicty and accuracy. And no, I'm not a dev. 5 stars for doing what it says it does well.
Remarkably accurate!! By: tobiasbob - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 0.9.5 Accurate for me 9 out of 10 times and quite frankly I DON'T want to automatically call the number if I'm wrong anyway. I am fluent in Serb and French and can mimic the accents and letter pronunciations when speaking English... STILL 8 out of 10 times got it right. AND FREE?!?!?! 5 stars. Possible improvement would be for the app to start up a little faster but that's just splitting hairs.
NEW SOFTWARE IS MUCH BETTER !!!! By: Z-MMAN - Aug 19, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 WHEN I FRIST GOT THIS APP. I PUT IT ASIDE AND SAID IT WAS FREE SO WHAT DID YOU THINK I WAS GOING TO GET .GLAD I DIDN'T REMOVE IT WITH THE NEW UPDATE ITS GREAT YOU CAN HAVE IT LOOK UP CONTACTS OR HAVE IT CALL THEM WITH A DEALY OR NOT AND IT TEACHES IT SELF TOO.IF IT GET IT WORNG CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT UPDATE IT WILL GO FOR A 8 TO A 10 !! I HAVE NOW MOVE IT UP TO THE FRONT PAGE OF MY APP. ON MY PHONE AND USE IT AND FOR FREE THAT GREAT A+
Cannot complete the initialization - tried this - it works great now ! By: Glee12728 - Aug 3, 2008 Version: 0.9.3 From the developer/software company help contact : >We think we may have isolated the problem, and will certainly fix it in the very next update. In the mean time, we would appreciate it if you could try the >following workaround and let us know the results. >We suspect you have a contact on your iPhone which has no first name, no last name, and no company name associated with it. This contact might >containt just an email address, or an email and a phone number, for example. The presence of such a contact will cause the problem that you have been >experiencing. >The workaround is to find this contact using the Contacts application, and edit it so that it has at least one of the following fields: First Name, Last Name, >Organization/Company Name. Note that every contact in your address book must have at least one of these fields filled out, or you will experience the >problem. >Thanks so much for taking the time to write -- your feedback is extremely valuable and very much appreciated. >- Greg In fact I went through my contacts in Outlook, the Office 2007 outlook data file view was the quickest to notice and rectify where a contact had no name or company information, only 600 in my contact list, and about 30 % of the contacts were either email addresses or phone numbers where I had put details in the notes free form field and nothing in the contact details. Then I re-synched so that the Iphone contact list did not have empty fields. All this, sensible support and all for a free App - you must get this - but be careful when driving - it is not to be considered as a complete 'hands free' solution for the iPhone, just a voice directed contact search.
It dials the number for you now, for free. Say, Thank You. By: Fever Pitch - Aug 19, 2008 Version: 1.1.0.0 Forget about all those misguided folks who have given this app one two and three stars. Voice Dialer has just nuked any other voice dialing app in the app store and maybe the voice dialing apps to come. Lets get down to it, shale we. 1. Free 2. Easy to use. 3. Accuracy is spot on. 4. If you prefer it, Voice Dialer's 1.1.0.0 update actually Dials the number 5. Free 6. Free 7. Understand, FREE!!!, Ha! Haa!, incredible. Thank You SpeechCloud.
