I always find everthing I need such as movie times and trailers very fast. I also like seeing the upcoming movies list and the reviews to the movies. One of my most frequently used apps! The only problem I find with this is that when watching a trailer on Edge or 3G the quality comes out superb but it takes forever to load. If there was a feature to check what connection you were on it would be great. But it's no biggie :)

Excellent Tool - Perfect Functionality

I've tried five movie showtime/ticket apps, and this is the only excellent one I found. Of particular help is its display of one of three movie review scoring systems: RottenTomatoes, Metacritic, and Google. I prefer Metacritic. It automatically shows me the closest theatres to my current location--excellent (I can also view other areas' theatres). It lists movies sorted by release date, title, score, or just those I've selected as Favorites. I can also mark theatres as Favorites. I can read synopses of movies, see the actors in them, the rating, runtime, genre, view trailers, be directed to external sites (like IMDb and the official site), and immediately buy tickets from the app (Fandango). Each movie displayed shows the local theatres screening it. A tap on any theatre listed there shows all the movies being shown at that theatre. I couldn't ask for anything more here. It's fast and tells me what I want to know, and gets me tickets. I've never reviewed an app before, but have appreciated this one so much.

Wow what a fantastic App! One that is my "go to" every Friday for reviews and show times. Forget searching through the newspaper or going on line to see where all the new releases are playing when everything you need is right in this sweet little app. I'd buy this baby even if it cost three or four bucks! It's one of my "can't be without" apps. Reviews, showtomes, theaters!! Seriously folks download this app and thank me laterHitekfred

Best Movie Time iPhone App

This is by far the best movie time iPhone App currently in the app store, and definitely one of my favorite, and most used apps on my iPhone. The interface is easy to use and gives you a million viewing options to find the movie or theater you are looking for. The best part though, are the constant updates that not only continue to improve the app, but it seems that with every update, a new feature is added, giving the user even more to play with.

Better than Flixter Movies

Now Playing is my favorite app for finding a movie to go see. It's laid out more logically than Movies by Flixter (makes sense to compare to this as that's what most people will know about) and has the same useful features. The main plus for me is that Now Playing will give me the list of movies that --are currently playing in my area-- so I know that when I'm browsing the list to find something to see, I'll actually be able to see it at a theater nearby. Flixter Movies, on the other hand, has a lot of movies mixed in the bunch that aren't playing at any theater near me, and I have to click through to find that out. Now Playing also presents the films by review score in a way that's easier to quickly see which movies are well liked.
Now Playing is easily the fastest most elegant way to find the movie you want to go see.

Best Movie App

I have tried a few of the other movie apps, but like this one the best. However, I have to have one other app installed, because we watch DVDs a lot. It is handy to have this feature when at the rental place. Add DVD features, and this becomes the perfect single movie app! Thanks for the hard work.***11/06/08 Update***Best movie app available. Now that it includes DVD support, I can finally drop using Movies. I do hope that in a future update, all DVDs will be available for searching, instead of just upcoming releases. That would make trips to the rental place a little easier.

Thought I would leave a comment after the update. Really great app that has benefited me much. Not a movie buff, but it comes in handy whenever I decide to spontaneously go and need to know what's "Now Playing." Ofcourse, there are many movie apps in the app store, but if you think about it, those apps were designed based off the format of the original. I beleive this app was around when there weren't any others. Cyrus is such a hard worker and has provided scores of updates which brings me to writing this review. Someone who is so dedicated to bringing the best possible product for FREE is well deserving of the five stars. I can't tell you how many regretrable purchases I've made with from other developers who's passion for qaulity just does not compare. Before posting I read a few other positive reviews and completely agree. So what he mentioned the unfair rating in the last update. You just have to give credit where it is do. A positive review in exchange for something useful I did not have to purchase is something anyone should want to do. Thanks Cy for the great product. Keep up the good work!

Probably one of the top 5 overall apps available for the iPhone! It's been entertaining watching this app grow and improve over the past year. And trust me, you won't miss seeing the improvements because Cyrus updates about often and gives a full essay on what's been going on including, what I guess, were heated debates on which icon to use. At one point he even put the icons up for vote (I think the best one eventually won out). Overall, Cyrus has put a lot of effort into making the app open quickly and run smoothly which is impressive considering all the information displayed within the app. Well worth the 5 stars!

I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. That's how much I love this app. If I had to choose between my two children or this app, I would probably choose the app. I can always buy new kids on the blackmarket. If Congress ever decided to outlaw this app, I would set myself on fire in front of The White House. Here is a poem to the developer: There aren't many people named Cyrus. I sat down and asked myself whyrus. I only know two, the parents they sued for mental abuse those darn tyrants. Now people named John are ubiquitous. In fact there's so many it's ridiculous. If that is your name you should go get it changed, to something else hell why not Cyrus? 

Best movie search tool ever! Easy to navigate and much faster to load than any movie website I've tried. The pages are well-designed, all the pertinent info pops up immediately, and lots of links allow you to play trailers and read reviews and more. As an avid movie-goer who likes up-to-the-minute listings at my fingertips, Now Playing delivers all the goods! Kudos to Cyrus, the developer, who responded to me almost immediately when I submitted a question. Highly recommend this one!

Update: It keeps getting better all the time. Original review: I've used Now Playing since the very first day any third-party apps became available for the iPhone. At that time it had a different name (Box Office?)
I won't repeat all the praises this app has already received from other happy users. But I WILL say that I can't ever remember any software developer (paid or free software) being so conscientious about keeping all users so well-informed about updates and upgrades. This guy Cyrus is a God-send. He really cares about Now Playing and is always trying to improve what most people think is already the best app out there.

This is by far the best movie/theatre app!

To be honest I don't understand why this app does not get downloaded more often. I've tried the other movie previewing apps from the "top free downloaded" list, and their movie trailer qualities in terms of audio/visual presentations are far surpassed by Now Playing. In addition the auto update feature is very accurate. I've tried this app in different areas of San Diego, and I am quite pleased with its fuctionality and appealing interface. I would like to see the DVD section provide trailers as well, but other than that minor quibble, the app is very close to being perfect. Regardless it's worth 5 stars to me. Keep up the good work, Cyrus, and best of luck!

Well thought out app, with some great touches

Having previously used Movies.app Lite and Showtimes, I can say confidently that this app is the clear pick. I really like the multiple ways you can come to information depending upon where you are coming from: want to see movie today, but not sure what's on near you?; know what you want to see, but want to know where it is showing closest to you; as well as having easy access to the upcoming movies.
I like the little touches like:
* making a cinema a favourite;
* the large print for the main cinema, and smaller print for a cinema within. For example 'gold class';
* Being able to choose where your reviews are coming from;
* cinemas by name or distance; and
* being able to quickly search of all of the above
The developer, Cyrus, consulted directly with me for help with Australian localisation and the features I'd like to see that to me shows a developer who goes the extra mile.

Contrary to many paying apps, this one just work. It remember form you last wifi-connection the schedule of the day, all the locations schedules (you can set the distance in the app preferences) wich is great for Ipod touch user that are away from any hotspot.The geolocalisation (even on wi-fi / Ipod touch) function greatly.Synopsys and Posters are also cached.
Exactly what I was looking for. The menu seems to be partly localized, some button function names are translated (much of them to my surprise).
This app is the one movie fans are really looking for. Tried many, this one does what is needed to be done.

I've used this app for well over a year, in many locations throughout the US. I've also tried lots of other movie related apps. Not only is this the best of them all, it is easy to use, fast, clean and clutter free, versatile, and very well supported. Cyrus really cares about making it work and he's proven himself very responsive to user feedback and complaints over the years I have used this. Great app!!

This app gives all of you movie-goers everything you need at your fingertips including showtimes for local theaters, reviews, etc. I love that you can define the radius in miles for your favorite theaters or that you can use the locator function on a 3G phone so that if you're on vacation you can find a theater closeby without using a zip code. Very well done and a steal for FREE!!
BTW, e-mailed support the other day and received response in less than an hour!

THE Movie App

When Now Playing first came out, it was a simple program that had flaws. But unlike 99 percent of the other apps in the Store, Now Playing gets massive updates every one or two weeks adding huge functionality with practically no bugs. Cyrus implores users to submit feedback and requested features and he's not kidding--he actually is building the app that its users want. Why Apple hasn't made a commercial around showcasing this I don't know. Typical cellphone movie apps are these text-based, visually vomit-inducing pieces of garbage, and here is Now Playing sitting around making everything else look like amateur hour.

A GREAT app with an intuitive Interface

I have been using this application since its inception and have loved it ever since. The easy to use interface allows you to find options quickly if the theater close to you is not offering what you need. I found the ability to modify the distance from your location and the location update within the program itself very useful.
Big ups to the creator!
I can say the only down side I have experienced is that all my friends call or text me for movie times.

Netflix support

This is my first review for an application on here and it is the first time I've felt I needed to go out of my way to inform others how awesome something is. This application was my favorite app on my phone and now that there is netflix integration it is flawless no more downloading every free app that says it supports netflix queue management this application is free and it does it better than any others application I've ever tried!
