I've been looking for a nice and simple way to keep track of spending and this app hit the spot.
I love it. It's very easy and fun to use.
The design and functionality is great.
Now just to change a couple things about the app:
-Allow for exact amount for the set budget at the beginning of the month.
-Add an "Add Revenue" button to allow you to add money you gain throughout the month.
-Add a "Revenue" button to the bottom, to bring you to the Revenue page.
-Add a "Balance" button to the bottom as well.
The Balance page would show the Revenues, Expenses, and Balance, on the same page.
If all this gets added, it will be even better than it already is!
This way you would keep track of Pennies Spent and Pennies Earned!

Finally... a budget tracking app for someone who hates dealing with finances. It's fun, simple, great looking, all around a treat to work with. A++ All I would like to see get added is the ability to switch from Spent (how much you've spent then how much you had to start), to something that shows you exactly what you have left. The gauge is super cool but a real number would be good too. But even as is, this is an awesome app.

This application exerts a fantastic design and wonderful usability. My only feature request would be an option to instead of a monthly budget to allow you to do debits and credits to your account. I want to be able to add money and remove money, so it is more or less a running tally of my bank account. While I may have $1000 to spend that I made this month, I also have $2000 sitting in the bank. When I make a large purchase ($1500), it seems that I'm empty on my money, which is not the case.
Thanks for your attention to detail in creating a beautiful application. :)

My wife and I purchased pennies to track our spending and just love its simple yet powerful design. We liked it so much we purchased a third copy four our son's touch to help teach him the importance of saving and the value of money! Great app guys! Keep up the good work!
I run a small business and so I have two checking accounts. I'd like to see in a future update the ability to add multiple checking and credit accounts so I can track my personal and business spending separately.

This is an excellent application and well worth purchasing. I agree with some of the other reviews in that there are some very minor upgrades I would like to see to make this app perfect. 1. Set the budget more accurately2. Be able to input the date of the start of the financial month3. Show the total remaining figure as well as the spent figure4. Be able to input a custom categoryI think with these enhancements the app would be just perfect as it's not meant to be a complicated financial app. Well done to the developers.

Wow - I love it!Entering expenses is so quick that I don't have an excuse not to do it the very second I spend the $... With other budget/spending apps, there were so many little details to fill in that it felt like a chore that required effort.The fact that there aren't a million options is a feature to me, because I feel no need to waste time entering details that I will never look at again... After all, I will have a bank statement online to look over if I need the minutia. Just so you know, I found that you CAN edit the categories and titles, albeit only one at a time. Just click on the expense in question (the notes page will come up), then tap it's title & you can rename it.The best part, to me, is the visual indicator of just where you are on your budget. WELL WORTH THE PRICE! I look forward to updates, but hope the developer keeps the program flow & feel very similar...

We're in the middle of financial meltdown people! Do I need to buy that leather jacket? NO! Especially given how much I've clearly spent this month on other toys! I know this because I've been using Pennies for 3 months now and can see where I'm spending my money and how far off my monthly budget I am. This isn't a complex spreadsheet and if you're trying to replicate a complex desktop tool on your phone then you're looking in the wrong place. Pennies is fast, simple and fun to use. The new features in the recent update make it even better. I will continue to love using this app! :)

I bought this app a few weeks ago, put it through it's paces, and am very pleased. It's a pretty simple application but extremely helpful. You set a monthly budget and continue to add expenses throughout the month. A little guage makes it clear at a glance how close you are to going over your budget for the month. The ability to add notes to each expense is very cool. Would be nice to be able to export the data somehow so if the iPhone needs to be restored, all the monthly budget info isn't lost. Great app though!

Great little application which does what it says. For the price it's defiantly worth it I think. A few things seem a little strange on it (like it's easy to set a monthly budget of £100,000 but more fiddley to do smaller amounts like £200) - but that is neither here nor there as you only do that once a month anyway. It would be nice if there were some sort of pin-entry system into the application. Overall though, well worth it!

Pennies brilliance is its simplicity. If, like me, all you want to do is keep track of how much you've spent a month then it's the most fantastic money application you can buy. On the start screen you can press "add expense", then type in the number and press "done" and that's it. You can assign categories and add notes if you wish, but if you don't you don't have to. If you want more features, and multiple accounts then you'll want another application, but if you just want a simple one, then this is the best I've found.

What a lovely little app. Now I can keep track of my petrol and lunch costs without having to spend ages navigating around more complex apps. Love the fuel guage! I've never tried to stick to a budget as I didnt really know where my money was going. I do now. I'm giving this 5 stars as its so well put together. If i had a gripe it would only be that I can't edit or add categories. Still worth every penny. Thanks.

I love this app, and the price is just right. The interface is very simpe and attractive. Reminds me of something that Apple would have made for the iPhone. The app is very straight forward. However I would like to be able to add my own custom categories with custom icons. For example, I would like a dedicated category for Gas and Bills, and the option to set recurring expenses such as bills and such.
Also would be nice if you can go in and edit the dates as well. I have old expenses before this app came out and would like to change the dates accordingly. I hope the developer updates this to reflect those changes and add more features. This app is very sexy!

I love this cute little application! Been on it for 1 week only, already I'm hooked up and constantly think how I can save money to beat the monthly budget. I had been a bad spender for years but now that I've turned 30 I want to build up saving by living a modest lifestyle. This application is so addictive - I get addicted to saving money! Can you get anything better than that?!Oh, did I mention my girlfriend hates this application to guts?! Guess why!Buy it people, it will change your life.

This is a great little app to easily track expenses. It's got a simple keypad to quickly enter a value and a category - and the fuel gauge is great. No navigating to sub-menus, trying to add expenses. It recognises what currency to use automatically (unlike some other apps). As well as it's ease of use, it has some nice little touches. It rounds up to the nearest pound in the summary view (so a £2.99 purchase looks like £3 instead). It looks great and it even adds the price of the app to itself to start you off :)
Well worth buying if you just want to easily see how much you're spending.

First I wanna say as a college student on a tight budget, this app has helped me keep track of my expenses. I think the problem with other apps is that they sometimes over-do it or try to do too much. What I love about this Pennies is it's utter simpleness and attractive interface. Everything is simplified with nice icons and I especially love the Meter gage that gives me an overall view of my spendings and budget. Its almost as if this app was made by Apple! I do admit thought that the app can benefit from a few more added features, without taking away the simplicity. In conclusion, if you want an easy simple way to tract your budget, get this application. If your looking for a application the needs a lot of customization, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Great Interface, Has Potential

The interface is beautiful, and from the short amount of testing I have done it has been smooth and worked very well.
There are plenty of categories, but it would be nice to have an option of icons and be able to label them with whatever you want.
It would also be nice to have an option to password protect the app. So that it prompts for a 4 digit code when you start it up if you want, but also has the option to disable it if wanted.
Also a calculator function to add up items on a receipt, and divide them in to different categories. It would be nice if you choose a category and then you could add up several items and when you are finished you can hit finished, and the total amount could show up in the budgeted items.
It is well worth the $3, if you want a simple app to keep track of a monthly budget. I hope updates keep bring more and more functionality, and keep up the great work with your great interface!

5 Stars - But w/ Suggestions

I rated it 5 stars because I would suggest people buy it. It's the best I've seen for this sort of things.
That being said, even 5-star apps can improve! Here's my suggestions:
* Let me change the date on expenses. Sometimes I remember something the next day.
* Give me an identical web-app that syncs to the phone (Maybe using MobileMe?) so I can input info there too
* If that's possible, also let two iPhones sync with each other so my wife and I can combine our expenses
* I may be contradicting myself here, but keep it simple! Like Time Machine on OSX, the fact that it's easy is what makes it good
Finally, I bought this app purely because daringfireball.net felt it worth his ad space. I was not disappointed.

Pennies is the start of a brilliant app. The developers really concentrated on streamlining the user experience so that adding expenses is a breeze. (Takes literally ten seconds.)
Some people may complain about those ten seconds being wasted, but as I see it, it's going to add up to a lot of money saved this coming month.
(And on a sidenote, this is the most beautifully designed iPhone app in the entire store right now, so it's worth a buy just to experience the UI alone.)

First review- I have figured out how the app works. The export option is still non functional. For expenses, once the month has change to the first all you need to do is add another expense as before and the gauge will reset. Also categories, when you view the expenses list every item has an arrow tab for specific notation about the expense. So for me the app works, and the export is a minor issue.
