I find many of the games for the iPod Touch either quickly enjoyable with a 'quick wear out factor' or they just never seem to interest me much and have limited gameplay. This game is quite different. As it's developed by Apple, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it maximizes the strengths and screen on the iPod. You have lots of players to play against (AI) or you can play in multiplayer mode. You can also play in horizontal or vertical - vertical provides a shot of your cards, your money and each individual opponent, while in horizontal mode, it makes the players very small, but allows you to quickly see all cards and players and really adds to the gameplay. Overall, it really is an enjoyable game to play, whether you play for 30 minutes or just have 5 minutes of spare time.

What is very impressive is the design, set-up, interface and graphics of this classic game with an Apple Inc twist. The application is very user friendly and even provides different view options from portrait to landscape, tournament play, game play statistics, and even a two player option. Great job and highly recommended for everyone from the novice all the way to the card playing enthusiast. 5 Stars!!!
Doesn't get much better

In the scope of video games in general this is probably the best poker game around, never mind ipod apps.
slick, smooth, glitch free. You can also control the pace of the game with the touch of your finger which is huge for me, so you don't have to sit through the other players doin their thing if you dont want to.
ONLY thing I can say is that it feels a little too easy and it would be cool if there was an update at some point just to add veriaty and more of a challenge (but that's nit-picking:).
5$ is my personal ceiling for spending money on these things but this is really worth it if you ever have a little time to burn waiting around somewhere and you like something a notch above the free app offerings.

When I bought it, it kept crashing, but I restarted my iPod and it worked fine.
For those of you who say multiplayer doesn't work, it does, you just have to be on the same network.
For those of you who say it has bad AI and gives too many straights and flushes and the people are too stupid and go all-in practically all the time, what r u talking about? It works fine!
It's got great graphics, UI, and very fun.
YOU CAN LISTEN TO MUSIC! Start playing music, open the app, then the music will stop, but you can hit the home button twice fast, and the music controls will come on, and just press play!!!
Best Texas Holdem' game ever!!!

I've been playing Texas holdem king on my blackberry for months. When I got the new iPhone I really wanted something as good.I found this app and was blown away! The graphics are great for showing friends, but when u want to move quick the side view is the quickest I've ever seen! The AI is quite realistic as u move through the levels... Quite difficult and educational. Closest to the real thing yet!Get this app!***O.K. It's been 2 months of great fun now... But it's getting dull. There needs to be longer tournements! It gets boring only playing 2 tables.... Update please!!!!

This is very addictive an easy to pick up. It has real motions such as going all in you push all your chips into the pot, and when you fold you toss your cards into the middle. This game has never crashed for me.If it doesn't work for you try restarting your iPhone/iPod touch. If that doesn't work sync your iPhone/iPod to the computer. After the sync delete the app off of your iPhone/iPod then resync it again. Then you don't have to pay again. This game is also great for wifi. There are lots of characters to choose from. My only wish Apple, is that there is an online mode to play against people in your country maybe wifi, 3G, & Edge.

The previous reviewer has not worked out that if you tilt your iphone/touch on its side (Horizontal), you get a plan view of the game, and have all the things he was moaning about missing! I love Texas hold em, and this game is fantastic, have spent many train journey's home playing this instead of reading my book. All of the options are there for you, plus its quick to play, if you fold you dont have to wait for everyone else to fold/raise/etc it just shows you the winner, and their winning combo/cards, and who else lost/folded. I have played many a Texas hold em game, real, and on the PC, is this is top notch. Plus the fact that in normal position, (vertical) you have some fantastic graphics of the players/dealer. Best and most played app I have on my Ipod Touch... and I have lots now.. too many!

This game offers tremendous and user-friendly interface that is ideal for any experienced or fresh poker player. The AI levels increase as you go deeper into the game, making it a real poker experience! If your looking for a poker game, don't hesitate on this game as it's worth your cash.Would be great if Apple provided improved updates on this game as it is a brand known for economic adaptability.
Finally a Great, reliable, well-made App.

A very well done app, with a clever alternate view when the iPhone is rotated 90 degrees.
The best use of video elements I have seen in a card game. This Hold 'em game has very clear instructions and just enough statistics to keep you in the game and not distract you. It is layed out to be functional and entertaining... and it is.
Well worth the buy if you are a Hold 'Em fan, I won't download another... I've found #1.

I'm a hardcore texas hold'em player and I love this app!! On the bus going to work I can play against smart computers (ai) and be entertained the ride!! 1. Feature I'd love to see is: play iPod while playingGreat features:-amazing graphics!!-tilt sideways to get full table view (like online/xbox 360 poker)-when exiting it saves ur position in game and u can continue the next time u play-keeps track of detailed stats (good way to see how good u really are at texas hold'em)-great music feels like I'm at the casino lol (would love to see iPod playback support)Overall:Anyone that loves texas hold'em or wants to start playing this app is great and a must buyPs:not sure what people are saying:-short game (I haven't even made it to last table) -no reply value (it's a card game it has tons of reply value, unless you don't like hold'em or you keep losing)-hard ai (it's hold'em there's good players out there, table 3+ get hard
Like it fast...
By: paisley89 - Aug 23, 2008
It's really cool that you can play about 7 rounds of hold 'em in like 10 minutes.
Although it seems really unlikely this game will ever get updated any time soon but I'd still make a suggestion besides maybe including some more characters and tournaments:
I'd like to be able to LOCK THE TABLE VIEW between landscape and vertical. If you hold it at an angle it's easier to play 1-handed but it switches to full-view mode too enough. Maybe someone will notice my caps...

The game is awesome, I was hesitant to spend money on any apllications because of the surrounding stigma of Monkey Ball's problems and such. However, I love poker and have brought many poker video-games; some of which were good, others, not so. Unfortunately, never have I experienced a good poker simulation that was portable. This was resolved by "Texas Hold'em", the game literally oozes style and sophistication. Evidently, the designers have observered the example of other disappointing iPod Touch/iPhone games and ensured their game didn't suffer the same detriments. Such simple options like Volume Control may not seem like much but I've seen quite a few games that miss this essential function, who doesn't want to kick back and play poker with their favourite music? Not that the games music selection isn't competent, quite the opposite; a continuation of the game's classy styling.
The A.I exceeds expectations, most poker games, even those on consoles, have computer players that seem incapable of deciphering the very loose player... if you go all in often, the computer will determine you are playing very aggresively and wait for a opportunity.
A great game, competitively priced too. An example for all successors.
Who ever wants to listen to ipod while playing this click yes!!
By: Nitmad - Aug 2, 2008
If you wanna listen to songs when you playing the game, this is what u want to do.
1.Make sure ipod is playing songs before loading the game.
2.Then click on the game.
3.Immidiately double click the home screen(you have to do this fast or else this wont work)
4.While game is loading, song will pause in the mini player, just press on the play button.
5. VOILA!! ipod with texas hold em.
Texas- big- like the fun you will have
By: Shaverklan - Nov 10, 2008
Considering that I spent $5 and had hours upon hours of fun, even days worth, this app is well worth the money. Just like a real hold em game, you need to figure out how people bet, and the computer Is no exception. Granted, some of the bets are pretty lame, like going $13k all-in even before the flop, but you learn how the computer plays and adjust accordingly. The animation is great. I especially enjoy listening to the iPod while playing.
It would be nice to see a bigger variety of players. The avatars are available, so why not have those people able to play, especially when you to to different tables and countries.
But none-the-less, a wonderful app that is a blast to play.
Neilgodfewyy2k ... your review is not accurate!
By: BIGdongle - 03-Sep-2008
Neilgodfewyy2k, you obviously haven't had a good play of this game at all. From what I can see, all the features you said are missing, are in fact there?
If you want to know how many players you are playing, just tilt the screen horizontally! There you get a birds eye view of the table and can see how many people you are playing and their positions on the table. Also, if you touch a player, you get detailed stats for that player including the amount of chips they have.
As far the dealer clapping his hands... just play the game in landscape view and you won't get any of the cheesy animations!
People, don't listen to Neilgodfewyy2k... this game is by far one of the best in the App store. It's well worth the money, and the only one problem I've found is that it's highly addictive!
My favorite app!

(as a follow-up: I read a few other reviews that said it was too bad you couldn't play your own music while playing this app... You can! In the settings of this app, you can slide the music off as well as mute the SFX- then back out, open your iTunes music, play what you want, then relaunch this app! I like listening to PHUTUREPRIMITIVE while I play...)
Here's my review:
As a fan of online poker (pokerstars.net/partypoker/etc.), I have to say this app is EXACTLY what I was looking for for the iPhone!
Reminiscent of the old school Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, as far as the way they incorporate the video of the various players' actions at the table, the gameplay on this is fantastic, and more challenging than anything else I've found...
1. Unlike so many other Texas Hold 'Em games, this app really has you thinking about each hand- I've found so many others that are easy to beat when playing the computer- you know: like when you raise, everyone folds...This game plays the closest to real life play with a fair amount of suckouts.
2. You have the option to watch each computer player take their turn to simulate real play (and to kill time), or by rapidly touching the upper corner you can fast-forward.
3. You can also rotate your phone to horizontal for play that mimics all the online poker play.
4. The computer players really do have tells that you can learn, which adds to the play of course.
5. You can leave your hand in the middle of play, leave the app entirely, and when you return, it puts you right back where you left off.
1. The music, while nice, is the same ALWAYS... At least you can control volume and whether it plays at all. (Same as SFX). Would be nice if they can update new music for it.
2. To play with REAL people, you have to be on the same Wi-Fi connection- so needless to say, I've never been able to play this portion of the game. (How many others do you know with an iPhone or touch that would ALSO purchase this game AND be on the same shared Wi-Fi? They need to make this open to players everywhere on different connections.
3. IMHO, it would add something to this game if you could buy virtual items with your winnings that you could keep in an inventory, just for the helll of it. The gameplay is great, but in the end, you accumulate $$$ that can only be used to pay for entry to more of the same tables.
4. They need to update new computer players though, with new tells- after you play this for a while, like anything else, it becomes a little stale.
Definitely worth buying if you like to play Texas Hold 'Em!!!! You will enjoy it immensely!!!

To play your own iPod music in game set your home button Double tap to iPod and right when the lady pops up Double tap home to bring up the mini iPod controler. You will see your music pause. Wait till the back screen loads to the spinning spade. Thehit play. And ur music will play instead of that elivator crap. And there's a bad AI glitch. Unrealistic. Easy to beat and bluffOut. Plus they alway no when I get ace ace cause they always fold? so gay. Other then that it's fun. I'm up to 8 mil.
So freakin' addicting!!!

In other words: I really really like the game. Definately worth the $9.99 I spent on it once upon a time. Now they lowered the price, what are you waiting for? Hurry! Get it now! C'mon you are just stalling now by continuing to read this review. I said what I wanted to say in the first sentence, so go and buy it. Now! Hurry before they lower the price again! (ps no I don't work for "them," whoever those brilliant poker gods are!) (psps I wonder who the actors are, probably like real famous poker players for all I know...)
