I have occasionally considered buying one of those "sleep boxes," but they have such horrible little speakers that I couldn't stand listening to them. When I saw this application pop up online, I was intrigued enough to drop a buck prior to any reviews being posted. I have to say that this was one of the best dollars I've spent a long time.
The sound quality is very good (I almost fell asleep at my desk), plus I can hook this up to a decent stereo that sits right beside my bed and set the sleep timer. All in all, this is a pretty darn good product for the price. Sleep soundly.

If I were you, I'd give it a shot...

I bought this application because I like to listen to something to unwind while I'm going to sleep or while I'm in the office getting stuff done. I love the timer feature to save battery life, the sounds are clean and crisp. I've told my friend who takes a nap at work in his office, and he WISHES he had the iphone! Power napping, sleeping and relaxing made easy, I think it's a nice little 'break' during your day.

Since electricity costs so much these days I've started turning my PC off at night. A 600watt power supply just to have a fan noise in the room really, really costs these days (nearly £60 a month) and I've really had trouble sleeping without noise. So I've started using the TV in my room with a sleep timer to turn off after an hour just to have some noise in the background plus having the TV on often makes me listen to the news and not get to sleep as wellThis app cost me 59p, PENNIES, and does a good job (especially with the Beach sound) of producing some background noise and it's a great help. Now I'm sleeping better (or getting to sleep faster) and saving money by having my computer off. The app also has a build in sleep timer.Note to those of you wanting an "airplane mode" after the sleep timer finishes - YOU WANT TO GET TO SLEEP, put the phone in airplane mode before you open the app - you don't need emails binging and bonging, text messages honking and phone calls bothering you when you want your Zzz time.

Absolutely love this app!
I use it on my iPhone dock connected to some small, non-powered speakers on either side of my bed to make the most of the stereo sounds.
The beach loop has to be the best by far & really helps me get to sleep. The timer & fade-out functions work an absolute treat as an hour after I've turned it on, it disappears into the night without waking me at all.
Would recommend this app to anyone - especially at such a bargain price!

The poster before me gave this a 1 star - that makes no sense to me at all. Most of what was posted is based on the older version. There is nothing difficult about the interface, so I don't get the complaint there? The sounds are actuallly pertty good, and either puts me to sleep or helps me to focus by keeping out side noise down. I would suggest that whoever had issues with the previous version download the newest release - then repost an update to the last review. My favorite here is Beach, Beach with seagulls, Rain and Thunder, Rain, Volcano errupting, Air plane cabin and wind. I have several other similar programs, this one is at the top!

For the price and the quality and effectiveness of the sounds and interface, all in all this is a very fine application. Great job. I would like to see some updates if possible, but it also good enough as is. Keep the price and MINOR updates and you can leave it alone and it will suceed I am sure.
The fade out idea someone suggested sounds good if this is plausible. but it's not entirely necessary. I'd like to see a few more choices of sounds at the same level of quality as what's already there.
So thank you for helping me sleep and don't spend my whopping 99 cents all in one place!

I really like this app and really don't see why such a simple app was subjected to such brutal critisizm. I tried a competitor's product for a bit more money and found this to be better. The sound is louder and there is truly a wide, wide variety of sounds to hear. People complained about the seagulls - ok, you have dozens of other sounds to hear. Relaxing, sea, water, wind and other noises. The interface is pretty simple. I totally use it when I go to sleep. And you can also get an audio cable and plug it into your stereo/clock radio/Ipod speakers to have much louder sound. Geez, what some people complain about for a product that cost 0.99 cents. I think it is very nice.

I love this guy. I had such trouble blocking out my busy mind in order to try to sleep. Now I put in my earphones, dial in "rain", set the timer for 25 minutes AND set the function to automatically turn off the app when the set time is completed and Vovila...great night sleep. No problem with draining the battery while you sleep due to the auto cut off. There are a huge number of noises to choose from. Such a low price for such a high class and useful app!!!!

This APP is everything I thought it could become. Great improvements over their first release which I think may have just been a teaser of the greatness that has come. The beach sound is GREATLY improved, now you get it with, and without Seagull's. They have added a ton of sound files, and I am sure there is one that will please even the hardest critic who fears to part with 99 cents. My new favorite is Night Camp.

I'm partly just balancing out the one star nut who felt that this application was specifically designed for him, and him alone. Hey, why don't you just build the perfect beast for yourself, genius? Anyway, I also give it five stars because I love the app itsellf! The sounds are great and I like the fact that they are realistic. I didn't find that having birds chirp in a rainforest to be annoying. It's actually the way it is there! I use different sounds for different things so the authenticity is appreciated. I also have Ambiance and iChillout and like them as well. They are all worth having on your phone. You don't have to just use it for sleep. Hook it up to the surround-sound and it's very cool!

I am an "intractable pain patient" due to migraine headaches. When I have one of my daily attacks where I can still tolerate sound, this program helps with my self-hypnosis to achieve a deep trance state & then to drift off to sleep. I wrap my head in a large, long lasting ice pack, go to my room where I make it as dark as possible, take my iPhone and open this program. Then having chosen the "sound" & volume level I can handle, I place my eye mask on to block out any slivers of light and create a deeper blackness, I lay back into the softness of my pillows on my bed and await relief. This "tiny" program helps to break down the wall of pain where even the strongest, & I DO mean the STRONGEST, prescription pain medication would never on it's own. Thank you to the makers of this program. You have no idea how much this one program means to this one individual. I recommend this strongly for those looking for just a gentle background noise with a timer to those who need help with more difficult issues and need the sound to continue until they manuallly turn it off. Definitely worth the price tag!!!

As a first try from Signs Studios for a "sleep machine" app this is an awesome app at an unbelievable price. This goes great with my iPod-Alarm-Clock-Speaker-system to play the "aSleep" sounds through and having the timer go for hours is great (my iSpeakerthinger only does 90 minutes) Great job guys and gals, looking forward to further updates and tweaks to a great app! All these harsh reviews and one stars are a little extreme. It's 99 cents!

This application is awesome! The sounds are very good, very real, the interface is nicely done, and the ability to set the timer is awesome! Best .99 cents I've spent on an application so far! Highly recommended for people that have trouble falling asleep at night without sounds, or for people who just need to slow down and relax! It's amazing and cheaper than the machines or cd's that you can purchase that do the same thing. Two thumbs up!Edited: the ability to turn down the volume would be awesome!

This application represents a true bargain. It is truly a steal. I have found it to be a true joy to use. Most importantly it really works! I really enjoy the forest sounds. I would be happy if this was $9.99. This app is much better than Ambiance BTW. I own both.
I am flabbergasted by review comments others have left. Reminds me of the time I was in a dollar store shopping and a women was yelling at the manager. She was mad because a pair of flipflops she bought fell apart and summer was only half over. She thought the sandals should have lasted at least through the summer.

Great application! I read a review on aSleep versus Ambiance...and decided to go with aSleep.
I normally have problems sleeping at night. Anxiety is majorly the cause. I set the timer to 1 hour and 45 minutes, telling myself I should be asleep by an hour. Sadly, I was asleep within 5 minutes. Woke up feeling refreshed and wide awake 9 hours later. Sleeping pills have nothing on the smooth sounds of the beach sans the seagulls.

Not bad, but could be better.

I have both asleep and ambiance both go for $.99 at time of me writing this Sept 30 2008. I would give the edge to asleep as far as sounds go they just sound better over all, and have a nicer selection. But I would like to see more nature sounds especially loons as they can make some amazing calls/sounds etc but you need a longer loop and use the quieter haunting calls they make. I would also like whale calls/sounds but just the whales not waves etc. Another good thing to include in the program would be for us to be able to include are own music/mp3/nature sounds etc that would be cool and has been mentioned before. For $.99 you can't go wrong.

I love my husband, but his snoring is unbearable. Nasal strips and ear plugs do nothing. Finally, here is a solution that doesn't involve the couch! I have used several different "sound" choices and all have drowned out the noise! Some of the choices are a bit odd and more annoying than the snoring, but there are enough to choose from to find a good one. I especially like the timer...so I don't have to worry about it running all night, even when I finally fall asleep. Now all the developers need to do is to figure out how to stop the bed from shaking for a totally restful experience!

First let me say I use this program, with speakers, almost every night. Some of the music sound clip loops are too short but that's ok because I will never use them. Love the "rain" and "airplane cabin" but I wish there were more kinds of rain sounds with varying intensity. This application does slow down my backup every time I sync. It takes forever!!!!!!! I put up with that because I really like the program because it is so easy to use. Well worth the cost.

This app really helped me fall asleep (better than my homedics alarm clock lol) especially nights when I cannot fall asleep very well. The rain is extremely realistic as well as the wind that reminded me of my vacation on the ocean. I do agree that the gulls should be silenced, but the waves are nice. As for the people complaining about the volume, (higher or lower) try plugging you iPhone or iPod touch into an ihome and adjusting the volume. This would also free you of headphones if you want to sleep on your side. Great app!

This is a great app, I really like it. Having the timer feature completes this. I like the sound of downloadable content. But even with out. This is great. With regard to volume. You can on the iPhone. Turn down the volume in the same way you would a phone call or the ringer. Volume has two modes. Ringer...which is your normal volume settings and in game settings. When you run an app. Adjust the volume, if you see ringer. It's the main volume. If you see no description. It's the game volume. However I have found you can only adjust this volume when a sound from the game is playing. But in this app. Should be nice and easy. I'm not sure about the iPod touch, sorry. I hope that helps anyone who needs it.
