Awesome app but...  rating of Lose It!
By: B. Page - Jul 29, 2009
Version: 1.2
This is the absolutely most fantastic and best app ever for my personal weightloss needs ! BUT... I wish there were a section that kept track of the cumulative calorie totals I am under beyond my weightloss goals daily. Usually it's a few here a couple hundred there per day. Since your calorie consption has a cumulative effect on your body it would be cool to know when I have gone an additional say 600 hundred calories under so I could go have a cheeseburger and not have it mess with my goal (190 by October 8, 2009).

I use this app more than any other and I've noticed a couple things that could be improved. The most useful thing would be buildable meals. For example have a list of foods like salad, sandwhiches, entrees. Then once you click them they go into menus of ingredients like cheese and meat. So for a salad you could have lettuce, parmesion, tuna, and dressing. Then it adds everything up for you. This improvement would make it amazing.

I've been a FitDay user for years, but I'm 100% converted to Lose It! The food database is more extensive, and while it doesn't necessarily have everything I eat, the recipe feature is brilliant - something FitDay has been lacking for as long as I used it. I created a recipe for the giant batch of Tabbouleh salad that I make regularly and can just add X servings of that in any given day. And the list of available exercises is great, too. The interface is simple and intuitive, not cluttered with extra stuff. It just tracks the basic nutrients, not vitamins and minerals. And while I might like to see how much calcium I get each week, the truth is, I probably wouldn't meticulously track it anyway, even if Lose It! had the option.

This app is great if you're serious about losing weight. Recording your calorie intake and exercise is very easy and ending your day under your limit is very satisfying. Keeping all your food intake recorded will help you set your mind on how much food you really should be eating. While the restaurant foods is limited, it is a very nice addition. Best part of this app is the freeness even though it's easily worth $5-$10

This app is so awesome, I love that you can set goals and it tells how many calories to go by daily in order to achieve your goal by a certain date! This is so easy to us and so well put together. I've already lost 4 lbs in less than 2 weeks using this app!!! I love that I can create my own exercises and how many calories it burns, (for example, hip hop abs for 30 mins = 250 cals burned) and it also adds more calories to my daily budget for me when I enter an exercise! So cool!

Excellent interface!  rating of Lose It!

This program is a pleasure to use. It's easy to search for foods, and you can easily add your own food or even create a recipe. For example, I usually eat oatmeal with milk and raisins for breakfast. Instead of adding each of these ingredients every day, I simply created a recipe with the three ingredients and then I just have one entry for my breakfast. I also love how it keeps track of your daily and weekly food and activity. I honestly can't believe they are still offering it for free -- get it before they decide to charge for it!
Update: I've had this program for many months, and I still believe it is by far one of the best programs out there. I've just recently gotten motivated to lose those extra 10 pounds, and I am finding it extremely useful to log everything that goes in my mouth -- it's a real eye-opener to what a proper diet looks like. It also motivates me to exercise since it credits me for my exercise time (you also get to include menial tasks like house cleaning). I've told all of my iPhone friends about this program (and a Samsung phone user who was quite jealous since Samsung doesn't have anything like this).

It works. It works very well. I've lost quite a bit of weight, and still losing. It's accurate enough for me, and the potential is all there (and then some). I used Calorie King (which is very expensive) previously, and this is just as good, only better because it's free! Yes, the data base (food) is considerably smaller...but, entering my own custom foods is very easy, and extremely user friendly. Absolutely no complaints, only thanks!! I've read some complaints and most seem to come from people that are just plain lazy and like to complain, or worse, incompetent.

This is so much better than carrying my day planner around with me. I can REALLY see the amount of calories that I am eating! I thought I was doing good with my food intake. NOT! I also like the fact that the Lose It! allows me to put my exercising into my weight loss goal especially since true weight loss does take exercise into consideration. Some of the calorie counters are a bit off, but that is really ok because I can still get the general idea of what I am or am not doing! It would be nice if they included more name brands.
Thanks ITunes, I should be able to hit my goal now!!

Excellent user-friendly calorie-counter  rating of Lose It!

So far, this program has worked as advertised. I've been using for about 5 weeks and have lost 10.5 pounds. I set my goal to lose 2 lbs a week, so that is right on track.
The log is very easy to use. I use the custom-foods option more than lose-it's food menu because even when an item is in Lose-it's menu, the calorie count is often different from the item I actually have in hand. Fortunately, once you enter a food item it stays in your my-foods menu until you delete it. You may also change items in the my-foods menu without changing earlier entries (i.e. if the calorie count in a recipe that you entered as a food item instead of a recipe changes you can change it in the menu and enter it in your log without changing the value of earlier log-entries).
I only have a few concerns: The my-recipes section is a bit cumbersome. I find it easier to use an online site such as sparkpeople.com to figure out a recipe's calorie-count and then just enter that as a food item. Secondly, as I lose weight I also lose calories in my allowance. That is natural, to a certain extent, but I am worried that the program will reduce my calorie allowance to an unhealthy amount without considering common-sense and health guidelines. I have an appointment with a nutritionist to figure out at what point I should stop following Lose-it's guidelines, if necessary. However, I haven't reached that point yet, I think, and it may not be an issue. I went from 1168 calories to 1131 to 1098. I don't think it's safe to go below 1000 calories, though. At this rate, though, I'll have to lose about 15 more pounds before that becomes a concern. I also wish that the nutrient tracker tracked more nutrients. It tracks fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, fiber and carbs. However, I'd like to track things like iron and calcium and vitamins, as well. Finally, the historical log could use some fine tunings. I can use arrows to go back day by day or week by week to see my log but can't jump from a historic view to the current day/week. So far that's just annoying but as my time builds up it could be a nuisance. Also, when you enter a new weight, the date of the past weight you entered goes away. I'd like to see what I weighed at various points along the timeline.
Even with those criticisms, though, I must say that this program has been a real boon to my weight-loss program. I did weight watchers for a while but when I went off it gained back all of my weight and then some. Having a simple method for keeping track of what I'm eating at hand has made me very aware of my eating habits and helped keep me on track with my diet. I recommend this to anybody who just needs a bit of a nudge to keep them "honest."

Stop handicapping yourself  rating of Lose It!

I'm a career firefighter about to enter an academy for a new job. I'm no stranger to exercise, but have always had a hard time losing weight. This program has helped me see what ive been doing wrong so I get the nutrients I need without over eating. My only complaint is that alot of foods are not in here but at least they have an option for adding custom foods. I've lost seven pounds of FAT so far. My main recommedation for anyone new to this is to drink lots of water. You don't realize how much water you get from food until you cut out a couple thousand calories of it. Good luck.

Great app  rating of Lose It!

I've used weight watchers online in the past but I didn't want to have to pay for the program. This app has helped me lose 12 lbs for free. I use it along with other calorie databases on the web. Now that restaurants r required to provide nutritional info it sure makes eating out and watching your intake slot easier. Would like to see the ability to add food to Tracker for future date. I plan my meals the night before and it would be helpful to be able to what I've used and what I have left. Thanks for a great app!

Love it so far~ not perfect, but close  rating of Lose It!
By: BarefootPhotographer - Jul 28, 2009

I find the program easy to use, input of data and such very simple. I like the fact that there are daily and weekly goals, so if you go over one day you are not ruined! I like nearly everything about it..
Here's what I would like to see added or changed.. when entering multiple items (for example, when I go to Chipolte, all the 'elements' of the meal are there) I have to go back to start, chose "enter food" and do this for every item. I would like the ability to say "next" or something, then "done" when I've put in everything.
I do love the exercise list (they have s.e.x as an activity, but not step aeorbics... odd??!!) and it seems to suit my needs well. I like that it gives you a choice of goals. Mostly, I do like that it is on my iPod Touch, because, unlike a food journal, I have my iPod with me all the time. And, it is FREE. (at least of this writing). Ya' can't beat that!

So I originally downloaded this app thinking I was going to actually use it...and i did! I recorded everything I ate and every excercise I did throughout the day and I wasn't really planning on losing weight but I have! I have lost 3lbs so far and I'm feeling healthier and a lot better about myself too! This is a must have app! And just a little FYI...if u do download this app...record everything! And excercise of course...or it won't work haha.

Very good app. Makes counting calories easy.  rating of Lose It!

After losing about 17 pounds I had reached a plateau and could not seem to lose more. But when I got this app, I began to lose again. Today it has been 10 more pounds, and I am happy as can be. I especially like the part where you can put the exercises in to have that work against the calories. And I like the way it finds the foods on the Internet to give you the nutritional value and the calories to enter. It makes counting calories so easy, which is usually not the case. Really great app! Thank you.

This app is easy to use and a great way to track what you are eating and doing. The best part is that it is fast and easy. You will do it more if it is easy. It saves all if your previously chosen foods so you can find your favorites w quickly. You can even find whole meals. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to export, but they say they are working on that. If you use it, it will work!!!

Lose it is great. I've already lost 2 pounds without feeling deprived. It has a fairly deep list of foods and calories and let's you customize additional foods. It also is good for keeping track of calories burned. It motivates you to be conscious of yourself but is very east to use. The only thing I wish is that there were smaller increments for excersises.
Update: After 6 weeks I've lost 8 pounds! This application is fantastic!

Easy to use. Keeps you on track! Quick selection of pre-entered and custom foods. Great app for anyone trying to maintain or lose weight! Thanks for a reliable, user friendly app!! Only suggestions would be to add a notes section to enter special meals you can't calculate or want to look up at a later time (dinner parties, homemade meals, restaurants). And add more nutrition info like sugars, potassium, vitamins, iron, calcium, etc. Also would be nice to observe weight change in past months.

But, I downloaded it and it was really great. I have been looking for something to take the place of Diet & Exercise Assistant on my old Palm. I purchased FIVE different iPhone diet apps, and they were all clunky. This one is seriously the best one out there. My only complaint mirrors another reviewer's... It is hard to locate simple foods sometimes-like a boneless skinless cicken breast. Really nice app, though!

Very good!  rating of Lose It!
By: Huncowboy - May 3, 2009

I have been dieting by adding up my calories for over 2 years anytime I started to get close to 10-15 lbs overbmy target weight. Calorie counting is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I know exactly when I am over budget or why I haven't lost a pound when I have had too much. I used to write it down and look up my intake at night. But with this I never have to look up anything anymore on the computer. I also like that it keeps track of your sodium intake. Very important and often overlooked by dieters when they are using canned food. This tool will not lie. You will be surprised how much calories one can eat a day when you think you had nothing. With this application you will know exactly why you are fat. Note to dev: It would be great if it would separate drinks from food.

My favorite and most used iPhone app. I have managed to lose 25 pounds in 11 weeks (my goal was 1.5 per week). I am more educated about my food choices - and having it on the phone changes the way we manage food intake and make choices. I find most info accurate - but will always enter specific nutritional info if I have it available.
Congrats and thanks to the FitNow team - this is tremendous.
