This is a very useful piece of software and it is incredibly intuitive and easy to use. I just downloaded it and I used it to test myself, my wife, my kids and my mom (who is 71). This is such an excellent idea because most people are too embarrassed to get their hearing tested. With this application, they can get it tested privately and still get professional results. Everyone I tested had no idea what their results would be. Getting immediate feedback is awesome.
The feature to find a local health care professional is great. Recognition of the problem is the first step. Finding a local practitioner makes it easier for people to actually take action.
Developing this app on the ipod/iphone platform is clever because we'll be encouraged to take better care of our hearing.

Pretty cool for a hearing test

At first I thought "yawn". Hearing test? Whatever. But because a friend of mine is hearing impaired I thought I'd just download it. It turns out it's actually pretty cool. The tests seem pretty scientific and the interface is awesome. I was shocked to find out I have a slight hearing loss in my left ear. Probably from my DJ'ing. Good to know!
Check it out. It's a cool app (for a hearing test) and trust me - you gotta take care of your ears. Peace.

I have occupational hearing loss and have my hearing tested frequently. I can tell you that while the results are not exact they are close enough to warrant concern. My audiogram traces are practically identcal to the proffesional traces I have recently had done. As a H&S practioner I will be taking my iPod rather than my bulky hearing test kit to determine if a client has a potential hearing problem. A test done on the ipod will never hold up in court (callibration problem) but is a close enough indicator of potential problems to encourage a further proffesional test. Great app that works well. Well done and for free!!!

Actually really quite good. I do have hearing loss and I took this test under ideal conditions and the final chart it produced looks very similar indeed to the one from when I had an official test with proper equipment. I was abit shocked at how accurate really. So I'd say this really does work quite well given that it's an iPhone app. Of course if this shows loss then get a real test done by a doctor and get some help.

You could just download this app alone for its beauty & integration with wonderfully designed background & UI images; they did an awesome job.
With that said,this app provides a great amount of hearing information to the general public. In less than 10 minutes you can have some interesting information about your personal hearing levels and abilities.
The only downside of the app is that now that I've used it, there's really no good repeat-ability. I used it, I'm not going to test my friends, so I'm basically going to uninstall it.
It has a nice save feature if you wanted to test different family members.

As the instructions state, make sure you use a good pair of headphones or earbuds and test in a QUIET room. The first time I tested the abient noise was too loud and the earbuds I used weren't good quality so the test was skewed. I correct the conditions for the second test and the results were much more accurate. I'd add that it might be best to do in the morning before your ears are fatigued from the noise of the day.
Now you don't have to make an appointment with an audiologist to screen your hearing, just do it yourself! If your results are consistanly poor then go to an audiologist to confirm the tests you did with uHear.

Wow. Can't believe this was a free app. What a great testing tool for your ears. There are some variables that might sway results, but done multiple times will show deficiancies and strong points. Great explanations for results. I was going to go in to a hearing clinic to get my ears checked to confirm where they lacked. No need. This is very accurate. I am a professional audio engineer. My only thought for improvement would be to add more frequencies in the test....

Very sweet app my hearing is super good at most things but I have mild hearing loss in the low sounds in my left ear and I am only 16 so I will probs not use my mp3 player as much and use my computer speakers a bit more

This application is by far the best available. A very useful tool to indicate hearing loss based on audiological principles. Love the education part as well.

This app is so wonderful I really appreciate the fact that it's free so everyone can use it. My result shows my hearing is fairly good but the only thing is I don't understand why I got a poor score for the questionaire(like 15)... I understand compare to the 1st and 2nd test the questionaire is less indirect but why the results are so different?

did all the tests, and i must say i am imoressed with the quality of the app and its value. My hearing is not as good as i thought it would be, so maybe all that loud music was too much in the end. i only have mild hearing loss on the left, for the low pitched sounds, but at not even 30 I thought it would be all the way up within the normal range.
