Reviews:
Now WAY better then Shazam By: apprisktaker - Jun 28, 2009 Version: 2.1 Simple reasons: 1. Accuracy: Shazam used to be the most accurate (especially when there was background noise), but I now find Midomi to be just as good, and better even because it allows for singing and humming as well. Which I find I use more because songs get stuck in my head. 2. Elegant and very usable UI, which allows me to get a huge amount of info very FAST (artist photos, lyrics, top songs for artist etc) 3. No Ads! The iphone screen is big, but not big enough to be clutter with ugly ads. I'd rather pay a few bucks for a very high quality app then get a mediocre one for free and be bothered with ads!!!
Impressive little application By: SweetLifer - Jul 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 An application that identifies songs on the radio? Amazing. When I saw that this application allows you to sing part of songs to identify them... I was a bit skeptical. I am a horrible singer, but I decided to test this application many times. It worked most of the time; BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS. I am a music lover (aren't we all?) and I always get frustrated when u hear a new song I like but can't buy or download because I don't have the title. This application will be a life saver.
Love this! By: Lucky25 - Oct 25, 2008 Version: 1.1.3 This is about the coolest thing I've ever encountered! Initially I couldn't make it work consistently, but I found it's all in how far away from the speaker/source you hold it. It hasn't worked yet when I tried to sing something, but I can't really blame that on the app! (it thought I was Kate Nash once!) don't hold it too close, because it'll distort. I tried the "grab" on all kinds of weird things, and it was NEVER wrong once I got the distance right. Love it and can't believe it's free.
Fantastic - Unbelievable! By: DanKirsch - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 2.2 This just might be THE best ap that I've got. I've used it while driving down the road listening to a radio station that seldom identifies songs -- never had a miss yet. And it even works when my wife is watching "So You Think You Can Dance" -- the dancer's chosen music is often something for which she wishes she knew the name/artist and this week I whipped out my iPhone and nailed every single song on the show -- even those where everyone was talking in the room and the TV was at the other end of the room. This ap is absolutely worth the money!
My favorite iPhone app. Period. By: I<3USA - Jun 25, 2009 Version: 2.1 Midomi is so awesome, definitely worth the $!! I use it in the car with my window down and it gets the song every time. It works very quickly so it doesn't distact me from driving. Also, sometimes I can't get to my phone in time before the song ends, but since i just heard it the tune is in my head so I can simply hum it in to Midomi and viola! I have the name and can buy it, watch music videos, post it to my facebook page, etc. I used to use Shazam because it was advertised so much but it doesn't even compare to Midomi. Shazam, you have been replaced!
So far my favorite app By: JaySlayer - Jul 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 This was like finding gold in the middle of a hay stack. I can't count how many times I've told someone they knew what song I was talking about. They insist they have no idea what I'm talking about. Now I can pull out my iPhone boot up Midomi and within a few seconds that person will be saying, " OH YEAHHHH, I have heard that song". The best part is, then I can go to iTunes and buy the song, or even hop over to Youtube and watch any related videos. SICK SICK SICK FREE APP! In fact, I can't believe it's free. Easiest 5 stars I've ever given.
Now it's even better! By: LJ26 - Nov 16, 2009 Version: 2.2 Got this when it was free didn't like it,then went to shazam...but now it's great and I highly recommend it to others no matter the price(good thing I got it when it was free)!UPDATE: GET THIS INSTEAD OF SHAZAM! you pay the same price but for a better high quality app! Puffyx is a moron...should of read the app description..what you thought it would magically work for your iPod with no mic? There's another guy who gave this one star just cuz you have to use a mic for iPod touch! Ok tell me this "How does your iPod touch listen to the music without a mic?" I hate dumb reviews of people asking for a refund when they didn't bother reading one line in the descripition or thought of how it works. I mean it's like common sense you need a mic -_-...
Midomi - nothing less than amazing By: firemellow - Sep 21, 2009 Version: 2.2 Update:
I got this app when it was free, but it is without question worth the price. The updates have made this app even better. I have no idea how the developers got it to do what it does. Must be magic!! Love this app.
This application does exactly what it says it does - identifies songs from your singing, humming, or holding it up to the radio, tv, movie screen, etc. Then it links to the iTunes store. This app is nothing less than amazing.
Unique & Simple By: Alfie687 - 22-Sep-2008 Version: 1.1.1 WOW!! I wasn't expecting too much on this application...but this is actually a unique way to search and remember songs that you couldn't figure out the name or artist who sang it. Very handy on-the-go or even when clubbing... haha. Just pop out your iPhone/Touch in the club and you're good to go!! Give it a try, it's a handy tool to use when you've got those frequent brain farts when remembering songs or artists. PROS: - Loads up quick. - The Grab Feature is accurate and takes only 10 secs. to figure out the song. - Gives you access to YouTube videos based on your search. Props to that! CONS: - The Sing Feature, when humming is a bit off. I think it still needs some work on it or it could be that my tune of the song was hummed inaccurately.
Simply the best..... By: N'awlinz_504 - Oct 13, 2009 Version: 2.2 Midomi Ultra is the best music identifier out their. Wayyy better than Shazaam for a number of reasons. 1) it finds songs faster than Shazaam 2) you can listen to 30 sec clips of the songs you've found and 3) YOU choose whether or not you want to save in your recent searches by bookmarking your results. And oh yeah.... I got this app when it was F-R-E-E. Still worth the current price though. PS: I still revert back to Shazaam every now and then just in case Midomi can't find what I'm looking for which has happened a few times before. So Shazaam is still good for something.

UPDATE - Midomi Has Surpassed Shazam By: Ah Swipe - Jun 23, 2009 Version: 2.1 Shazam once was the equal of this program, but now, I have to change my rating. They couldn't leave well enough alone and tried to fix what was not broken. Midomi, however, kept improving and I've now changed the rating to 5 stars. It does things Shazam cannot do, like recognize whistled and hummed tunes, not just recordings. And NO ads!! I've now deleted Shazam and exclusively use Midomi, as it's speed and ability to recognize songs are unsurpassed.
Better than shazam by lots By: Jkillah Tampa bay - Sep 17, 2009 Version: 2.2 This has been on my top page since I removed shazam
And it was page two till an update made it page one then over a few months I deleted shazam and here I am.
So many features only thing missing is the camena feature to check songs playin on your iPod
But I have camena so whatever
I got this for free almost a year ago and it was worse than shazam this not so shazam has been gone like I said that's a forbidden word
But since this app at work people say who is this and they say idk Justin has the jesus phone
Also true for safari it beats out blackberry a million times and beats the palm pre that my friend has
iPhone rocks running version 3.1
Not much new but the arranging of homepages from iTunes it works nicely
Love it just love it By: Ipodean - Sep 17, 2009 Version: 2.2 So glad I got it when it was FREE. It was one of the main reasons I got a microphone for my iPod touch and the music identifier gets it every single time! this is way better than shazam because even if you have an iPod touch like me and don't have a mic you can just type it! Bottom line SHAZAM SUCKS and Midomi is just amazing. Dont get shazam it didnt work once for me and with this you can hum whistle or sing the song urself. Great job Melodis. I hate shazam and love midomi. If you are still reading this i have no idea why you havent gotten it yet. Bye. My hands are tired
Mind Boggling By: DoctorJoeE - Sep 17, 2009 Version: 2.2 This is one of those apps that you'll wonder how you ever survived without. The fact that it even works is continually mind boggling. The look on your friends' faces when it nails a tune is worth the admission price all by itself. Dang impressive bit of programming.
One minor quibble: It's not particularly good at identifying country-western music, so they might want to work on that part of their database.
Excellent By: Aeothan - Jun 21, 2009 Version: 2.1 Had this app for a long time now...
Thought I'd write a review for it finally. This app is amazinly efficient. It's got an incredibly intuitive user interface. I have it on my main page so I can tap into it when I need a song identified- oh, wait, no Internet connection? It saves what you've recorded for whenever you're able to connect.
Honestly, if you like music and find yourself wishing for a music companion that'll help you identify, store, and download (via iTunes) then get Midomi.
5 stars.
AppRevs.com - Midomi is a great solution to a classic problem. By: AppRevs.com - Sep 16, 2009 Version: 2.2 If you have ever been out and heard a song you liked and wished you knew the name of it this app is for you. It works flawlessly as far as any song I have tried it on is concerned. Melodis Corporation has done a great job in every aspect of this application, it works great and has great graphics. In the end the real question is of value in relation to cost and with the $4.99 price tag on this app it is truly a tossup. The only factors that need to be taken into consideration before purchasing this app are the $4.99 price tag and the amount of use you think you will get out of it. If you feel you will find it useful, buy it. If not, do not. All I can tell you is that if you buy it, it will work and it will work well. ~ AppRevs.com
Awesome Application. By: josh8810 - Oct 16, 2008 Version: 1.1.2 This application by far is the best one that I have downloaded yet. I have the ITouch and at first was kinda difficult figuring things out with the whole typing the lyrics. You have to be exact with them. But then I ended up borrowing a headset that belongs to an Iphone, which has a microphone on it, and that makes everything all better. I think that if you have an iTouch then you must get the headset, and you can get one for free by going to midomi.com. Great application!!! Better than Shazam!!!
This app just keeps getting better! By: Steve Rocks - Nov 11, 2009 Version: 2.2 So much better than Shazam or Shazam Encore. Ad free and quick responding. Just open the app and tap the button and it immediately starts tagging. Unlike Shazam, it constantly is in link with the cloud, so I've had it get results with as little as 4 seconds of recording! Shazam waits untill it's heard it all before starting to tag. It's extremely accurate, and has probably the largest sample database. Not to mention that you can sing into it, hum, and even just say the name of an artist, song, etc. I would gladly pay $5 again for this app.
Worlds Apart From Shazam! By: ohioqueer - Sep 13, 2009 Version: 2.2 I was quite skeptical, but equally interested. I decided to buy it and immediately I was amazed at what it could do. Yes, there are cheaper (and free) apps that do the same thing… almost! Singing and humming really does work, as long as you're clear and close to the mic. It recognizes songs that most people have never heard of - I'm talking rare showtunes from 1961! It's so much faster than Shazam and really, the only downside to Midomi is that it costs more than the others, but in this case, you certainly do get what you pay for.
Amazing By: jtl10 - Sep 12, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 Wow. Really, really cool program. A pretty simply idea, but an amazing amount of technology to make it work, and it's very impressive to see in action. Sing (or even just hum) 10 seconds of nearly any song, and Midomi will identify it and even link to iTunes or YouTube entries for the song. It will also identify songs playing on the radio or TV. The amazing thing is that, more often than not, it works.
