Description:
MapQuest® 4 Mobile is the next evolution of maps & directions on the iPhone™. The application represents a leap-forward in how you currently interact with maps, directions, and local search on your iPhone. Utilizing MapQuest.com as a base foundation, we've started from scratch and completely overhauled the experience for iPhone users. Leveraging the iPhone's unique Multi-Touch interface, we have built a set of innovative features that make viewing, planning, and navigating your world easier than ever before! Plainly said, the application offers a set of unique features that simplify your mobile mapping and directions experience on the Apple® iPhone device. ****************** FEATURES: ★ Save Maps and Routes on MapQuest.com and retrieve on your iPhone. ★ More useful driving directions featuring an oversized display as well as landscape mode orientation. ★ New MapQuest Place Carousel allows you to easily display locations for hotels, movie theatres, gas stations, and more with a single tap. ★ "Find Me" feature that utilizes iPhone GPS to plot your approximate location on a map. ★ Follow your route in either map or list mode. ★ Negotiate difficult turns or sets of turns with the help of orientation arrows when viewing directions in map mode. ★ Free-form search for businesses and places. ★ Create your own my position icon that represents YOU on the map using the iPhone's built in camera or choose from a variety of existing my position icons. ★ Walking directions feature to find the most direct route, utilizing pedestrian walkways. Note: GPS features require an iPhone with GPS features. Since the iPod touch's online connection is limited to WiFi, geographical location is determined by triangulation which provides a less accurate location than GPS.

Happy house hunters! By: broncosrock - Jun 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Thank you mapQuest! I downloaded your app and all I can say is THANK YOU. My wife and I went house hunting yesterday and we mapped all the houses we wanted to check out and saved them to our My Places account. Using your application on the iPhone, we were able to go from house to house on the route we saved on your website. This saved us so much time and heartache...not to mention an fight or two about directions :). Your application is steller! Very easy to use and great interface. This is way better than the other choice I'm stuck with on the iPhone. Keep up the great work. And a big thank you for giving a choice other than Google!!!
Bye Bye Outdated Google Maps. Hello Mapquest!! By: Ratedpg13 - Jun 16, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 The only question is what took them so freakin' long!! I'm a delivery driver and rely extensively on my iPhone and Google Maps to help plan my routes but far too many streets in the newer subdivisions are simply not found in the native app! And not once since the iphone debuted has Google updated their mobile database to be more inclusive of these neighborhoods. It had gotten so bad till I simply added the search screen from the Mapquest site as an icon on my iPhone's home screen for quick access...and without fail each time Google Maps failed to locate a street Mapquest was able to find it!! It was a tad bit slow because of Safari's sluggishness on the phone but it never let me down. So now with this application I have access to Mapquest's much more extensive database and a much faster and graphically more impressive interface! Thanks, guys. Well done!
Simplicity at its best By: iMacoo7 - Jun 15, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I really like this application. Always good to have an extra GPS program to fall back on, when the other is not showing direct instructions or misprinted or outdated information(As google maps does from time to time). I have taken this application out for a spin in this highly rural area in which I live and it was spot on with everything!all the my places were working properly and showed all the information without a hitch. Again... Always good to have a back up program to fall back on.
life saver By: pOOgenhOO - Jul 9, 2009 Version: 1.0.2 I was able to find a gas station a few blocks away when my tank was running low. Okay so the finder couldn't find my exact location but it honestly doesn't take long to drag the cursor over an inch to my exact location. It's really not a big deal considering Google maps has the same problem. I love how mapquest gives the option of avoiding highways when traffic gets nuts. Good app for emergencies.
Great Free App, Better than some Reviews think By: dyingforsleep - Jul 8, 2009 Version: 1.0.2 I thoroughly read most of the reviews before I download an app as well as in the rare instances when I write a review. I've noticed a lot of people complaining that it can't find any addresses, but all the ones I search for are found easily. I think most people are entering addresses into the business box instead of the address box. Why it defaults to the business box is a little weird but not devastating. Also, the GPS can be off in finding my exact location, but I notice that with all the mapping apps (Yes, the almighty Google has this problem as well) As for people complaining about no satellite view, who cares? Does that really help on a 3.5" screen? It's cool, but not necessary. Overall I'm satisfied with this app, just as good (if not better) than Google and doesn't drain my battery as fast (probably cause Google is constantly using the GPS, and I think MapQuest only uses it when it needs)
Excellent App By: JimmerTV - 22-Nov-2009 Version: 1.2.1 This seems like an excellent app. You can select whether you prefer kilometres or miles for measuring distance. The two reasons that I often use it instead of the built in app is that this app gives you the option of not using toll roads and it can present the directions in a list form instead of having to push an arrow to see each change in direction. The one negative is that it can’t access your address book; however, it does remember locations once they have been entered.
Great app. Moving to homepage! By: concept10 - Jun 16, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 It's nice to see someone actually taking the time and effort to take advanage of the tools supported by the iPhone and actually implement a great application.
The interface is wonderful and the dashboard-like feature at the bottom is outstanding. I only wish you could
add custom places down there.
other than that the interface gets a little sluggish sometimes, but I would bet that it screems on the new iPhone.
Fantastic map app!!! By: solarpower - Jun 15, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Without a doubt this map app is extremely useful and it replaces the google map for searching common places (e.g., restaurants, bars, movie theaters, etc.). I took one star for the lack of Street View feature found in Google map. It would be great if the app can show showtime for movies and business hours for restaurants, shopping malls, etc. It should also include a search icon for locating banks and atm machines. In summary, the app like this is what makes people carry iPhone instead of dumb phone.
Nice App By: RookMan - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.0.2 This app seems to be pretty nice for a first release. The big thing they need to add in the next update is utilizing the iPhone 3GS compass functionality. This makes it much easier to follow the map when on the move. Everyone that says "O, Google has this or that", I meen come on, this is a great first release, and is a great additional map app to use along side Google. Google does not find all locations, so between both these app's, you will have full coverage. Well done.
Much more recently updated maps By: Mooose - Jul 27, 2009 Version: 1.0.2 I like this app because MapQuest/NAVTEQ have much more current and updated maps; major freeway construction was done in my area over the past 5 years, but Google/TeleAtlas have not yet updated their maps to reflect this. However, MapQuest 4 Mobile still has a long way to go in matching up to the responsiveness and fluidity of the built-in Google Maps app. A small thing that I would really like in MapQuest 4 Mobile is the two-finger tap to zoom out.

Easy and fast By: Mobile user_69 - Jul 17, 2009 Version: 1.0.2 Was just in Boston and found this very usefull. I was able to find everything I was looking for as well as always find my way when I made a wrong turn. I love how fast and interactive the map is as will as how they deal with tuning searches on and off with the touch of a button. Please add a follow me dot so I can actually see my movement on the map to help navigate in the next version. Some more historic points of interest/ tours would also be a great add-in too. Overall I though MapQuest was easy to use and fun!!!
It's good...can do even better By: Jaitley - Jun 23, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I loved the road signs on list view of directions. The landscape mode of list view is Awesome!!. Navigation for steps on the map view is easy to use (simply swipe, I don't like google's arrow button to move next)
Options for quickest & shortest route is useful feature. Even option to avoid toll, choose icons, etc are good.
Room for improvement:
-Allow saving search locations as favorite.(currently can only share by email)
-maps to load faster.
Wonderful By: Happyhow - 17-Jun-2009 Version: 1.0.1 Mapquest is-- and continues to be -- a great app. Indeed, before the iPhone was born, it was the only map-app that could route Ottawa windsurfers to Hatteras in 800 miles. This mobile version generates excellent routes, and it maps illustrated, formatable "Trip Tics" with "way points". As an iTouch user, I just wish that it would allow me to storeand view my selected route while on the road but off the air !
Very nice, but... By: mischivo - 17-Jun-2009 Version: 1.0.1 I hate referencing this to the Google Maps application, but I must: the interface (adjusting scale and scrolling) is noticeably slower. And as another user pointed out, an option for using the metric system is imperative: I'm not used to miles and feet, nor do I plan on learning. Otherwise, the features are top notch. I like being able to select coffee shop locations, or gas stations, or schools, or... et cetera.
Well done! By: Rjackson89 - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This is really useful.
It's about time By: Luvpeeps - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Finally an app from MapQuest! Thanks for making this available on the iphone
So Cool!!!! By: Haide - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 App looks really cool!
Great app! Thanks! By: Dasn00p - Jun 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 Finally! An app with maps and streets from România! I have been waiting for this since iPhone 1.0.. Hats down, i'd give u 6 stars if i could!
Wow By: Tv Guru - Jun 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 The answer to everything. Runs a little slow at times but couldn't be better! This is amazing
Great app By: Myr007 - Jun 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 This is a great app. Little slow when on Edge but so is Google. Hand dog makes this app 5 stars!
