Reviews:
A must-have... By: tirrus - Sep 20, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 One of the things smartphones were meant for. I use this app multiple times a day to keep up with what's new in politics, war, finance, my various special-interest blogs...If I could change one thing about Newsstand, it would be to make the BBC's feed fully readable in landscape mode (rather than summary only) as others are. I suspect that's the fault of the feed and not the reader. At any rate, terrific app!
Simply awesome By: SlopeDope - Sep 28, 2009 Version: 2.1 I just ditched NetNewsWire after a year and needed a replacment. First I tried Byline. It was nice but it just irritated me. I then decided to try Newsstand. It is such a solid piece of software. Too many features to mention... Extremely configurable at every turn... And has been the best App I have installed in a long time. The price is definatley worth it. If you depend on your RSS reader throughout the day, everyday, the price is no big deal.
Perfect By: mrsteveman1 - Sep 28, 2009 Version: 2.1 All these people talking about slow sync must have image download turned on, normal sync is very fast. Some people complaining elsewhere also admit to stuffing the app with *400* feeds, what did you expect? Any app will be slow syncing 400 feeds and scrolling through what must be thousands of items.I was looking at this and byline and I chose this, I see no sync problems or performance issues, will update if I do.
Worth every penny By: Hamish2009 - 11-Sep-2009 Version: 2.1 I wrote a bad review for this app a few months ago but the new update is amazing and solved all the problems, so I have now given it 5 stars. I especially love the google option to condense pages when downloading them in the apps browser which makes the process much faster. Thank you for your hard work and I hope this app continues to develop. After showing it to my colleagues in the office they all use it now.
Transformed my browsing By: Baritus - 07-Sep-2009 Version: 2.0 Old review below.
Wrote again as this latest update addresses my main gripes with the app.
Badge updates now perfect and the new horizontal page view is fantastic.
This is a developer who obviously thinks about improvements and listens to feedback AND implements change.
...
Brilliant app that looks cool and saves a lot of time. I started using RSS feeds when they became native to Safari and then was content to use the .mac forwarding service on my bookmarks. UNTIL THIS! Using this makes me wonder if I should find a news reader for my Macs.
Nearly one star down cos of a few crashes, mostly when the network stalls but the app looks so good and performs so well it deserves the full house.
Developer really cares about product By: netdance - Sep 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 The interface is really nice, but what makes this app stand out is the developer behind it - he's still actively working on improving the product, and he responds promptly to bug reports. Yes, there's still some bugs in this release, but I've now got more than enough confidence in the product and the developer to give it 5 stars, knowing full well that he's going to agressively address any bugs he finds.
The best RSS reader I've seen by far By: SoulOnIce - 24-Aug-2009 Version: 2.0 I used to use NetNewsWire which was great but then Newsgator the online RSS reader I was using said it would no longer be available. I got News Stand and I have to say it is several steps up from the already good NetNewsWire. Good things: 1. Synchs seamlessley with Google reader 2. Dead easy to set up extra feeds on using the iPhone - no need to go to your online reader to do this 3. Functionality is great and well though through - can scroll through items easily. 4. Can read in landscape. 5. Good synching with Twitter and other such things Very well designed, well thought out faultless app. Am very happy to give it 5 stars.
Wow! Just plain wow! By: TheCreative - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 2.1 I tried out the top 2 RSS feed apps. Byline was the other. Newsstand wins! Why? Feature rich is not saying enough. It sync's with Google Reader and it makes importing and exporting other lists easy. Newsstand allows you to lookup URL's or it provides a browsing tool for you to view 100's of popular feeds. Still not sure if the feed is for you? Click and view a demo of the feed. It also includes Twitter and Delicious sync's and views. It has a intuitive design where you can see it in list format or in GUI interface like a paper "newsstand". It allows landscape view which is really nice when viewing an article. You can also share an article with anyone through email, Twitter, Delicious...etc.I haven't seen any issues with the app running slow. When I click on an article I want to read it provides a separate page to view instead of starting a Safari page. I hope this helps with anyone stuck on the fence on their purchase.
Best RSS Reader app By: Zebble - 23-Sep-2009 Version: 2.1 I was very happy with NetNewsWire until they switched to Google Reader sync and didn't update their iPhone app. That got me searching for a new iphone app RSS reader. The thing that turned me off NewsStand was the cheesy looking newspaper format but after reading a couple of reviews I realized it was an option that could be ignored and wasn't indicative of the app itself.
Turns out it is the best RSS app I have found.
Pros:
Scales images
Customizable email (I send interesting articles to my Gmail and I can have it ready in the template. Hit the button, hit "email", hit "send" and it's done)
Syncs with Google Reader so I can use NetNewsWire or Feedly or GR on my Mac.
Options for Twitter, Instapaper etc for those that want it.
Cons:
I love the black theme except for the horrible faux wood effect
Slow to update feeds
Would like a quick "home" button to jump back to latest news
I'm sure some people like the newspaper rack effect but I think it dumbs down an otherwise exceptional app.
Happy to pay $5 for a quality app. NetNewsWire just released their new updated app and it doesn't come close.

WOW By: ashiato - 21-Aug-2009 Version: 2.0 I just bought this because of the great reviews, and boy am I impressed. I am a sucker for pretty designs, and this app's presentation just blows all the other RSS readers out of the water. This app doesn't just LOOK good, it is also very practical and well thought out. You can tell the developer put a lot of thought into making this the best app of its kind, and they more than delivered. I have been using Byline for a long time, but it's getting replaced because it just can't hold a candle to Newsstand (especially with the same price!). Get this if you read RSS feeds and would like to support a developer that CARES about their products.
If You've Been Waiting By: Darron Weis - Aug 28, 2008 Version: 1.0 for a good enough RSS reader like me, this is the one. I like the flexibility of both reading modes, seeing the number of unread stories right on the icon, and the completeness of the features. I can't complain about anything. The only suggestion I can make so far is to be able to have different themes for different feeds. A few more well-written applications like this and I may not need my desktop machine any more.
Keep coming back By: rmcmast - Dec 4, 2009 Version: 2.2 I have tried most of the rss apps and keep coming back to Newstand. I really like the folder organization and sync with google reader. The last app update really improved sync speed. Cross-checking with google reader in my browser shows that read counts stay in sync very well. One improvement could be with pending actions. Every once in a while (usually with slower Internet connections) a lot of pending actions to mark articles as read get backed up. You can only delete them one at a time which is inconvenient. A delete all option would be good.
Get your news fast! By: RJayK - Aug 27, 2008 Version: 1.0 I deleted all my news apps once I got this one on my iphone. I can scan my local paper, favorite local news channel and favorite websites for recent news in no time. I look forward to discovering more feeds that interest me. The cover flow design is cool and functional. My iphone did crash and took a while to fix, however, it may not have been this program because once I reset the phone this app works great.
Brilliant! By: Cryptoman - 04-Dec-2009 Version: 2.2 After trying many news readers I settled on Newsstand and have been using it for many months. This latest update ensures it keeps it's position on my Home page. Great interface improvements, new functionality and nice shiney new icon :-)Seem to have lost the ability to have nested folders in the new version but that is a minor annoyance.UPDATE: Increasingly experiencing lock ups and slow responses. iPhone also often hangs for 15 seconds after quitting app. Do not get these symptoms using any other app. Hope the next update fixes these issues.UPDATE (v2.2): it's back! So far, so good. Seems more responsive. The new (I don't recall seeing it before) Compress Database under Performance in the app settings may have a lot to do with it. I was looking for an alternative RSS reader due to the bugs but will give this another chance.
Quality! By: Dutchie71 - 13-Aug-2009 Version: 2.0 Just downloaded the latest 2.0 update and this application stinks of quality. I have been using this since day dot and I have also been in contact with the developer during the early days with great responses and promises of fixes and updates which he has never failed to deliver. You only need one RSS Feeds application for the iPhone and this is the daddy of them all. Worth every penny. Download it now and you will not be disappointed, spank me otherwise!
Best iPhone RSS reader available By: myMANWICH - 29-Jun-2009 Version: 1.3.3 With the inclusion of this RSS reader in my collection of apps, I have actually come to the conclusion that apart from using specific applications for my job, I barely need to use my computer at all. The simple, elegant interface lets me see everything that's going on in the world in the palm of my hands. Adding RSS feeds is as simple as typing in the website and letting it do its thing. Now that I've used it, I don't think I could go back to using any other RSS reader on the iPhone.

Nice, very, very nice. By: MVW47 - 13-Aug-2009 Version: 2.0 The best is even better the new upgrade is fantastic. I can't fault in any way. It's a pleasure to use.
This one ticks all the boxes. It's what I've always thought an rss reader could be on the iPhone. I was reluctant to purchase another rss reader, finding them all OK but a bit disappointing, but the video persuaded me to give it a try. This is my rss reader from now on. It's fast, it's easy to use, it has themes (even a large print one for oldies like me!). It has that 'wow' factor in the landscape view. Nice.
