Reviews:
Huge Potential By: Wuvva - 22-Oct-2008 Version: 1.2.1 I LOVE this app and, believe me, I've tried many of the picture editing apps. The styles are brilliant and the interface is beautiful. There's huge potential here, but still a bit buggy. It often crashes when I go to save the photo and I have to repeat the process again. Some developments I'd like to see are proper cropping of pics, be able to edit position and zoom after each filter reframes the picture, rotate and align, and automatically go to the last picture in my album when selecting or cancelling an old shot to edit. Otherwise I'm very happy with this. I lomo-ised all my recent hong kong pics and printed them out and most of them look great. Skin tone could use a bit less red though.
UPDATE: The new version hasn't crashed on me once and has cut the saving time down to a second! Excellent and most deserving of that fifth star! Now how about a fisheye and some sort of Warhol effect...
Started flakey but now nicely refined... By: Designr@t - 20-Oct-2008 Version: 1.2.1 Nice app now that it's more stable and has more filters\camera styles. Yes some of the filters saturate too much in certain situations but come on moaners the iPhone camera isn't exactly state of the art!
What this app is great for is manipulating photos while you are out partying, travelling etc and then uploading them straight to facebook or some other web space. The quality will never be great for printing in large dimensions but is perfect for the web. The filters will make your facebook pics look much cooler than everyone elses and all uploaded in minutes...
Impovements could be more filters and some interactive sliders.
The support is good too I've had 3 updates in as many weeks - coders keep em coming please.
Overall nice app.
Bring Back Instant Format (updated) By: jcjvm - Oct 8, 2009 Version: 1.5.2 I wish I wouldn't have updated. The main reason I use CameraBag is for the Instant filter. They completely changed the format. Developers, if you must add the new format, at least leave an option for the old one. I've turned at least 4 friends on to this app. They all paid for it after seeing my "polaroids." Now the format no longer exists. Please bring it back. Please!!!
UPDATE
Thank you for bringing back the Polaroid format to the instant filter. Even though the color and texture of the border isn't nearly as nice as the old one, this is an okay alternative.
The cross process filter is in the next update. I'm scared to install the update. Please be clear and upfront in the update description if you take away, change, or alter any features. Please inform us before we choose to install the update, not after. Your customers appreciate it.
I can now actually use my iPhone's Camera By: Lia.Rez - Nov 1, 2008 Version: 1.3 Wow is all I can say the pictures I take with my camera have always been a little disappointing, this app makes the camera take quality shots (well edits the photos into quality shots anyways) now. I happen to buy this mostly because I took a class in school with the Helga camera, and I love the effect. This camera captures some of the best effects of certain film cameras. This is absolutely my favorite app, I would have paid much more for absolutely worth every penny.
Best App! By: ijustlikeit - Jan 8, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 I like reading reviews from the App store, it's really all we have to go on when wondering about downloading something. But, I hate when people write fake reviews...buyer, don't fret, these reviews in the positive realm aren't fake. This App is really all it says and more. My photos never looks so sharp. People are amazed that my phone took such sweet photos. And it's free. I don't know how they do it. But it's amazing. Download this App, before they figure out people love it so much they'll pay for it and they begin charging.
This app does more than most of the other photo apps combined! ... By: Scott3794 - Jan 8, 2009 Version: 1.5 I use this application for almost all of my photography when i use the iPhone ... i even have an iPhone photography section on facebook ... I Like the "Helga" the best, as it gives most outdoor shots a surreal look. ... The B&W of "Mono" (framed) & "1962" (unframed) are very sharp ... "Infrared" does a pretty decent job of duplicating the look of an actual heat-sensitive camera ... "Lolo" and "1974" add a nice colored filter look to the pics making them look like the pictures were taken long ago and found upstairs in an attic ... though I must admit, I'm not too crazy about the "Fisheye" ... This app does more than most of the other photo apps combined ... well worth the money!
Great User Tips!!! By: CampSteve - Oct 9, 2008 Version: 1.0.1 Here are a few tips to get even more out of CameraBag. Start doubling up on the filters! Choose a filter and save the photo. Open it again from the iPhone's camera roll and choose a second filter. - Sepiatone. Save first in 1963 (black & white), then save it in 1974. - Black & White Vignette. Save first in Helga, then in 1963. - Warm Vintage. Save first in 1974, then in Lolo. - Century Old. Save first in 1974, then in Helga. - Super Helga. Save it twice in Helga for a more intense light burn. Experiment with some of your own combinations. Depending on the colors in your photos, you can come up with some really unique visuals! I'm just a casual user. I've never been much into cameraphone cameras but CameraBag is allowing me to create images that I'm more likely to share with others. I look forward to the new filters when they come and seeing what other cool combos I can come up with!
Brilliant little ap By: Rlovegreen - Jan 2, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 Camerabag is a brilliant, fun ap that takes the iPhone's rather mundane picture abilities and creates something remarkable. I can snap photos, run them through the filter of choice and you would swear I actually knew what I was doing and used expensive image editing software. If you use this with Night Camera, you get sharper photos to work with and the results are amazing. From 0 to the web in a minute or less... Highly recommended. Pair it with Night Camera and it gets even better!
This app will change your relationship with your iPhone's camera! By: gabemax - Jan 1, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 I love this app. The biggest down side to the iPhone, as i see it, is its relatively crappy camera, but this app does a beautiful job of spicing up images. I've shot a lot of real Holga medium-format film shots, and I'm impressed with this simulation. A nice feature is that you can save a modified image and then run it through another filter or two and create whole new looks. My favorite is to do "helga" and then "lolo". Looks great. Hats-off to the developers of this app (who, I discovered, do high-end 3D modelling and ray-tracing software in the real world). Now if I could just eliminate those occasional pesky crashes.
Better than expected By: Photo Rob - Oct 29, 2008 Version: 1.3 I didn't expect a whole lot from this app but it works so well! The new fisheye is pretty cool too. A consideration for future updates would be to combine effects. Right now I apply an effect, save and reopen to apply another one. Works fine for me but combining in the app would be cool. Oh...sorry but the IR filter has to go. It looks terrible. That's my only gripe. Not enough to give it less than 5 Stars though.

Nice Lomo Simulation By: Frank F. - Oct 29, 2008 Version: 1.3 As a pro photographer who does a lot of art with a Holga with Polaroid back, this is a great tool that allows me to get an idea of what my shot will look like without wasting any precious Polaroid film. It's also fun to snap everyday photos with the built in camera on the iPhone, and makes them much more interesting. I'd like to see an option to allow "light leaks" like a true Holga.
Edit: The fisheye is ok, I'd prefer if it were full frame fisheye instead of circular. Please bring back the original Helga filter from the first version.
I Love This App! By: Yamahamie - Oct 29, 2008 Version: 1.3 They have upgraded twice and I've had this app for only a month. Both upgrades have been significant. I'm very happy with the results. It's a great creative tool. Non destructive, keeps the original. I like the ease of use, quick results, finger paging through each result, choosing to save the ones I like. Can't wait to try one reviewers suggestion of saving a photo multiple times using more than one effect. And, can't wait to use this new fisheye filter in the recent upgrade.
If you have been searching for a digital Lomo LCA/Holga- CameraBag is IT! By: orbitalbox - Aug 11, 2009 Version: 1.5.2 Pro: The first camera app I purchased for my iPhone is CameraBag, way back in v.1.0. Having been a toy and lo-fi camera collector and photographer since the Details Magazine article (ah~), I have been searching for a "digital Lomo/Holga" for a long time. Even modded a few lens to fit on my Epson R-D1. However, the resulting image is either too beautiful or too sharp (a bad thing in this case). There is nothing wrong with the real thing, but a Holga or Lomo LC-A doesn't really fit in a pants pocket :) Another thing is the challenge- how to craft a good image with entry-level lens. Many CMOS digicams like Vistaquest and Aiptek's Pencam come very close, and again, the images comes out artificial and "unfilmly". There are countless camera apps available, many do the same as CameraBag, but somehow... the filters in CameraBag just "look right", they look true to the real thing. Combine it anyway you want with other filter apps and then run it through CameraBag, the result is endless and does not disappoint. I am a huge fan of the "Instant", "Magazine", and "1974" filters because I like an vintage look. Nevercenter puts a big time into this small app and frequent updates is always followed by user comment & suggestions. Con: None quite frankly. All the memory issues have been ironed out and it is smooth operation and does NOT crash. I would like to see some texture on the borders of Instant filter- the grid looking marks on the actual film. That's my only wish, but other than that- GET IT NOW!
Amazing! (: By: Insaneiguanas:) - Aug 11, 2009 Version: 1.5.2 i LOVE<3 this app! its definatley
my favorite on my iphone(: it really changed my look on taking picts with my camera as the camera on the phone isnt as great as it could be, now i know ill be able to make every photo perfect and cool! i get compliments on my photography now more than before, and. this app is better than most online/programs you can use! i simply adore it, i recomend to anybody even remotely into takinh picts, or just anybody looking to make your pictures wayyyy better (:
and def. worth 1.99 (i would spend 5 on this app)
(:
Slick! By: 2finsup - Sep 22, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 This is great because I totally hate the iPhone camera, and I feel like I can actually share some pix washed through Camerabag! I would also be very interested to see a (slight) fisheye effect. And possibly an infrared.
I like that there are no level adjustments etc. I just want to make an "insta-cool" image. I do enough photo editing on Lightroom for my business; the last thing I want to do is fully edit my iPhone photos.
Great job! I am REALLY looking forward to seeing new effects roll in with future updates. :)
Name changed to protect the innocent? Great simulations. By: invisible_touch - Sep 21, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 The "Helga" tool is to mimic the artfully imperfect vignetting/saturation/variable focus that was common with the plastic lensed medium-format camera branded as Holga which was marketed as an extremely affordable camera to the Chinese in the 1980s. The "Lolo" tool is to mimic the Lomo LC-A a Russian camera known for its blown out colors and sometimes artful, sometimes atrocious blur from long exposures. I'm sure the names were changed to avoid problems with lomography.com While color film was certainly around in 1962, my family certainly didn't use it much, this "1962" setting does a good job of increasing contrast when it strips the color. The "1974" setting makes it look like a print was made 30+ years ago and then hung on the wall at your grandma's house. Fun app, I'll probably use it more when I upgrade from my iPod Touch to a iPhone 3G, most of the photos in my iPhoto library are taken with vintage/weird film cameras so it will be nice to un-sterilize the photos I take with my iPhone.
better than i expected / keeps getting even better than that! By: wassup_nola - Dec 13, 2008 Version: 1.4.1 whenever i want a really nice vintage feel to a photo on my iPhone (which is often) i use this app. the results are way better than i expected when i first purhcased CameraBag. they really look nice on a large computer screen. AND, they keep sending updates with MORE effects. another big selling point for me: opposed to other apps that age your iPhotos, CameraBag lets you use your iPhoto library. other apps i've downloaded only let you use photos taken through their app (not your iPhone camera). what's not to love about this app?! i highly recommend it.
Takes a mediocre camera phone and gives it life By: EnochLight - Dec 8, 2008 Version: 1.4.1 It's no secret that the iPhone's camera is pretty mediocre as far as cameraphone's go. CameraBag really helps give the shots taken with it a lot of beauty and allows you to dress up your Flickr page (or any other photo sharing page you tend to upload to) with class! It also seems the manufacturer is interested in keeping it up-to-date with regular filter upgrades. The interface is elegant, the filters useful, and it's pretty stable. For $2.99 you could buy a lot worse! Highly recommended for any regular users of the iPhone camera.
Worth every penny. By: Nikongirl22 - Jul 23, 2009 Version: 1.5.2 I absolutely love this app. I've had it for about 7 months. When I upgraded my iPhone, my main concern was: will my camerabag app still be there?? Hehe. I posted a photo on facebook that I applied helga and mono to, and my dad asked me which lens I used to take that photo (we are both professional photographers) when I told him it was taken with my iPhone and tweaked with camerabag, he was blown away. A must have. I highly highly recommend.
