Description:
Now with 4x digital zoom and 27 different aspect ratios! Night Camera uses the accelerometer to ensure the steadiness of the camera before the shutter fires, it creates clearer photos at night and under low light conditions. iPhone has a decent camera for a cell phone. However, due to the space constraint, it has a slow lens, meaning the shutter time is relatively long. At night and under low light conditions, a slight hand movement can cause the photo to be blurry. By using the accelerometer sensor, Night Camera only fires the shutter when it detects the iPhone is steady, thus greatly improving the sharpness of your photos. **** Night Camera offers three modes for your convenience: - Standard: Same as standard camera - Stable: Accelerometer fires the shutter only when the iPhone is steady, with adjustable sensitivity. - Timer: Shutter fires after a timed delay. **** In-app photo browser with delete: - Night Camera allows you to browse your camera roll within the app, with the ability to view and delete photos. ****Geotagging - Night Camera allows you to use GPS information to tag the photo with EXIF. ****4x digital zoom - Single finger operation. Swipe to zoom. **** You have four color options - Color - B/W Grayscale - Sepia - Hard Light (a dramatic effect best for well lit outdoor photos) **** 27 Aspect Ratios - Standard 4x3 - Wide 16x9 - Square - More.... **** many other options - Fullscreen shutter in all modes, so you don't have to look for the tiny camera button. - Resolution (full 1600x1200 vs quick 640x480). - Time stamp overlay. - 3x3 grid to help you with the composition. - Auto save (no confirmation needed) vs Preview before saving. - More. Pretty Good for a Buck (v 1.7) By: Silverkun - Aug 16, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 I know it's the intro price, but it's got all the features I wish the stock program came with. -Fullscreen shutter so I don't need to find that 1x1 "sweet spot" anymore -Up to one minute shutter delay. Which is awesome if you want to frame "that perfect shot". It doesn't give you night-vision, despite the cleverly marketed name, but I read the description, and it filled all my needs. Nice job, folks. Now all we needs is a direct link into our just-taken pictures.
Stabilizes the iPhone Camera By: BJ Nemeth - Aug 4, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 I think the low ratings are due to unrealistic expectations. This app does *not* give your iPhone night vision. But it does allow you to take photos in low light situations without blurriness from shaking the iPhone. And it works great.
Just remember that the iPhone, like all cameras, can't stop your *subject* from moving and becoming blurry.
The options give you additional flexibility. (You can set the sensitivity, for example, from low to high depending on the situation.
I am extremely pleased with this app, and have already taken some nice photos I had trouble getting before.
Some issues, but an iPhone must-have By: paxprobellum - Jan 16, 2009 Version: 1.5 Night Camera is an excellent application, and a must-have on the iPhone. I use Night Camera exclusively for iPhone pictures. Night Camera performs as advertised, taking excellent photos in conditions that would normally result in a blurred mess. Additionally, regular updates keep making it better. The timer feature alone makes it worth the purchase. My only complaint is the long "save-time" for pictures. Do not be dismayed by a low rating (2 stars at time of review) -- this is a high quality application that is worth your money.
Creativity should be rewarded By: LemurFemur - Dec 4, 2008 Version: 1.2 This app is incredible. Such a simple, yet brilliant idea. I have always been disapointed in the iPhone pictures, but now in low light I get focused, albiet grainy photos. I am a professional photographer (whatever that means), so I never expected much from the camera, but this app makes it usable. I agree with other posters: 1 - Reset the reviews. A 2 star is a travesty. Many people didn't understand this app, and others who had legitimate gripes were handled by the authors with updates. It works as advertised. Could still be improved with a few tweaks as outlined by other reviewers, but the basic idea is the real gem. 2 - Apple should give the authors a bag of money, and include it in the next software update. Innovation like this is one of the reasons the iPhone is alive - hats off to the authors. Oh, and don't call it "Night Camera", call it "All the time Camera" (not really, but you know what I mean)
With updates. Perfect By: Lewinmg - Jan 12, 2009 Version: 1.5.1 Update: last set of updates (1.5.1) fixed everything. This app now gets 5 stars. Lots of new options cover pretty much everything you'll need in taking pics with iPhone. WELL WORTH IT! Get it and u won't be disatisfied.
Since last two updates with the timer, things are looking up. Although right now my timer settings aren't saving. This may be the result of me not restarting phone since update.
Not worth it. It's not sensitive enough. Plus the timer is useless. Starts the countdown when open app???? That's just not smart. Pausing it negates the timer. Can't get it back without closing and reoopening. Why?? Makes no sense. Why even have the timer? Just use the built in camera program. Hold finger on shutter button until ready to take the shot. Then let go. No wiggle. And it's FREE.
Night Camera is on my home screen instead of the iPhone's Camera icon By: Fraussie - 12-Jan-2009 Version: 1.5.1 I have frequently had blurry images, even in daylight, due to a last second move or shake. This app improves the quality of all the pictures you take, day or night, and is on my home screen instead of the iPhone's Camera icon. I cannot rate this app highly enough. You can even control the sensitivity and responsiveness of the camera to movement and stillness. This is an essential iPhone app and worth several times what it costs
Adds A Great Deal of Function to the Camera By: JNHohol - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.2 This app work very well with the latest update. All my pictures saved to my Camera Roll and although it crashes a little bit, this is a great app! ~It takes great low light pictures which wasn't really possible before. ~It also uses the accelerometer to take the picture when your holding the phone steady. (Normal Light Pictures as well.) ***There is a choice in the settings to turn off auto-shutter. This will allow you to touch the screen to start taking the picture.
Great for self-photos too! By: BobP1776 - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.2 With the V1.2 update, I'm upgrading my review from 4 stars to 5 stars. Hold the camera facing you at arm's length, wait for it to snap, and you'll get a nice, clean photo of yourself and the scenery behind you! The new vibration feature makes it obvious when the picture has actually been taken. Almost perfect: Saving photos from preview screen to the Photo Roll seems a little slow but by no means intolerable. PLEASE NOTE: There's actually NO PROBLEM SAVING PHOTOS to the iPhone's Photo Roll if you simply remember to do a complete reboot of the iPhone, once, after installing this app. This is wise to do after installing ANY app. Go to the Home page screen, then hold the Home button and the Sleep button down together, continuously, for about 10 seconds, ignoring each and every screen change that happens, until the Apple logo finally appears on screen, then release them and wait for the phone to complete its restart (which takes a little while, so be patient).
1.3.1 - even better By: Ranulph Fiennes - 17-Dec-2008 Version: 1.3.1 Those who gave the app 1 star didn't really understand what it does - it simply waits until your hand is steady enough to take a low light (long exposure) picture. On this version the camera will wait till you tap the screen until starts its process, and you can set it to auto save. It's useful in any low light situation, not just night time, and you can adjust accelerometer sensitivity too. But since it chooses moment rather than you, not one for Cartier-Bresson ; )
Great App, but don't expect magic By: Kakos - Jan 6, 2009 Version: 2.0 Image stabilization is common in cameras and allows one to take pictures several stops slower. The iPhone doesn't have any hardware to do this, but Night Cameras brilliant idea is to use the accelerometer to determine when the phone was fairly stable and then immediately take a picture. This results in clearer images and allows the iPhone to effectively increase the exposure.
It won't make pictures taken in the dark suddenly very bright, but it will allow for better night pictures to be taken. It is also extraordinarily useful in the day, as it ensures your picture isn't blurry. This app has completely replaced the built-in camera for me.

Improvements. By: Midwest man - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.2 1 Star
I installed and rebooted the iPhone like the instructions stated. No photos in my photo album. Fix the issue, you have good potential for a sweet app, but if I can't see the pictures I took, it's kind of a waste of money.
Update:
Deleted app and re-installed. For some reason I got the old version eventhough it said there were no updates. App works fine.
Update: 4 Stars
Images need to save faster. Other than that, this does a great job with photos. I haven't heard a shutter sound though. I used it at a concert. Maybe add a vibrate function to let the user know that the photo has been taken. Good app.
Update: 5 Stars
The vibration function was added. I also like the ability to have the whole screen act as the shutter. This application works great. I've seen it progress, and am satisfyied with the product you've delivered.
I do wish people would check out all the settings and options of this app before reviewing.
THIS IS NOT A NIGHT VISION CAMERA. IT'S SIMPLY AN IMAGE STABILIZATION TOOL FOR WHEN YOU ARE IN SUB-PAR LIGHTING SCENARIOS.
Amazingly Sharp and Rich Colored Photos! By: GadgetGuy39 - Jun 28, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 This is an amazing application, and one that is a keen example of "thinking outside the box!" What a brilliant stroke of genius to use the iPhone's accelerometers to sense when the camera is being held steady so that a slow shutter speed can be used to capture a sharp and rich colored image. This app delivered more than it promised in my opinion. I was truly surprised by the quality of the night photos. Shooting the same scene with and without using "Night Camera" there is a dramatic difference between results. With Night Camera the focus is virtually perfect and I had none of the purple blotches that mark the standard (without Night Camera) images. I thought I had a pretty steady hand but this App improves greatly over the best I could do without it. This one is definitely worth the price and then some.
wow By: troska - Dec 29, 2008 Version: 1.4 Bought this app on xmas eve and gave it some extensive use at the party. Did a lot of comparison pictures and man does night camera perform, its takes a while to save but the pictures it takes are worth looking at instead of the rubbish you get from the stock camera app. If you plan on taking pictures at get togethers, etc, spend the .99c to buy this great camera app. You will not be disapppinted just make sure to set the sensitivity to suit your hand stability and the other settings as you please, this wont be a let down.
Excellent App By: Jason Cox - Dec 2, 2008 Version: 1.1 I tried a few pictures with this app versus the built in camera app and I must say, the image quality of this app if you're just whipping your phone out to take a quick pic is far superior.
If you're taking a planned shot and have time to steady yourself you may not notice a difference, but if you're grabbing your iPhone out of your pocket to take an inpromptu shot or trying to shoot a pic while moving then you need to download this app.
Excellent. Works great. By: dave491 - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.4 I like this app. There's obviously some haters out there, but this app works exactly as advertised. I was skeptical, especially considering a lot of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I bought it. I use it all the time.
One negative that *is* true -- it does take longer to save than a photo from the standard iPhone camera app. I'm not sure why, but I'm hoping it's a glitch that'll be covered in an update.
But overall, I'm very happy.
Why all the low ratings? By: Kkamann - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.4 For me, this app really delivers the goods. I guess my hands shake a lot because I can't take a non-blurry pic if my depended on it (at any time). The tiny shutter button on the regular iphone app can be quite difficult to get to without touching other parts of screen. With this app, you can hold the phone anywhere on the screen and it still works (this is a godsend for me as I only have one good hand)
The countdown timer is the closer on this app, perfect for self/group pics. For 99 cents, you really can't go wrong. Plus, unlike many apps, they continually provide updates making the app better.
I don't know if they listened to me specifically when I pleaded for longer countdown options, but they did it. And I use them. Thanks to the developers for listening. I also like the countdowb beeping feature just added. I often thought how nice it would be to hear the last few secs count down.
MORE TWEAK REQUESTS:
1) Improve saving times
2) Change or allow the user to select when the beep timer starts beeping. 10 seconds is kinda long. It would be easier to count down in your head "3-2-1" or "5-4-3-2-1" when it starts beeping instead of starting from 10, IMHO.
From a 3 star to 5 star with the update By: ChunkyLoverMark - 27-Nov-2008 Version: 1.1 The latest update fixed the issues I was having and they also gave me what I asked for so I've had to come back and give them top marks. For the next update can you give us a option to automatically save each picture rather than doing it manually every time?
Previous review below.
Love the program but it still isn't saving the pictures to the camera roll. It shows the picture as being in the camera roll but when you get in there it isn't actually there.
The actual program is great when it works, you can take a better picture on this than the original iPhone camera, plus it's better to have it take an automatic picture then fiddle for the touch screen button on the original.
Also in the next version can you have a pause button to disarm the camera till your ready?
Great app! By: TesTaPPs? - Nov 30, 2008 Version: 2.0 Don't listen to all the negative reviews, this app does EXACTLY what it says it does. Obviously some peoloe did not read the info before purchasing. This app is something that should be built into the existing iPhone camera. It does a superb job of taking crystal clear pics at night by using the accelerometer to stanalize the shot. Taking night shots before with the regular iPhone camera was pointless and came out like crap. This app takes USEABLE night pics. Great job guys. Smart thinking. One thing I would like to see.... Allow setting of exposure, f-stop.
awesome app, READ THIS before buying/leaving a bad review By: s1ck - Dec 21, 2008 Version: 1.3.1 okay I don't get why so many people expect a $1 app to turn your iPhone camera into a professional camera. That just isn't going to happen. It is impossible to improve the quality/resolution of pictures on a software level, you need to actually put a better camera into your phone. All this app does is use the accelerometer to make sure that you aren't shaking the phone when taking a picture. That way, especially at night, your pictures come out less blurry. That's it. It does not in any way enhance your built in camera! So stop expecting this to turn your phone into a Canon EOS and give this app a good review.
Personally, I love this app because it does exactly what it's suppose to do. Too bad so many people don't realize it.
Finally makes my iPhone camera usable By: Zack Katz - Dec 21, 2008 Version: 1.3.1 This application is worth WAY more than $.99 -- using this application makes my photos clear as can be. VERY grateful to this app for finally making my phone's camera a source of joy rather than frustration. Get this application if you take pics with your phone: you won't regret it! Also, they seem to be consistently working on improving it. Bought two weeks ago, and already 3 nice updates to improve the app. Very good!
