The best Polaroid app for the iPhone  rating of Polarize
By: scoodog - Oct 23, 2009
Version: 1.1
This app is great. I've tried most if not all of the iPhone apps that transform iPhone photos into the Polaroid style. This app does a very nice job rendering colors, contrast and vignette. This includes fleshtones, which aren't too overly saturated.I also really like the hue and style of the Polaroid border. It's very subtle and, like a real Polaroid photo, doesn't detract from the actual picture. Also, contrary to what some reviewers have reported, the saved-file-size is fairly large. On an iPhone 3G, I'm seeing a resolution of 1039x1200.Moving forward, I would like to see the opportunity to adjust which square-crop of the original image gets used in the final Polaroid image.

Excellent - 5 stars.  rating of Polarize

I really don't know why this app is rated as badly as it is. The iPhone's camera itself is, unless taken in good lighting conditions, relatively poor. This app makes any photo look better than it should and it's very simple and fast to use - it doesn't even require you to think. But most of all, it's free.
I've purchased paid apps such as CameraBag, Photo Fx and Colorsplash and although they are okay, they don't compare to Polarize.
Polarize adjusts your photos - contrast, brightness, etc. and every time, they are adjusted to perfection. A few people actually commented on my photos that I uploaded, asking me if they were real polaroids.
Tagging your polaroids is limited but it's to be expected. It's not a space for you to write an essay. The limited amount of characters you can type would be the only, at times, frustrating thing about this app. But there's no real need for words when your photo can tell the story.
The only thing I'd recommend is to take a photo using the Camera app, then open Polarize and load the photo from there, or else you'll only be getting the photo saved as a polaroid.
All in all this is my most used app and it has never once crashed. I'm glad I found it. 5 stars!

Very fun to use! Use this to replace my polaroid.  rating of Polarize

I really like how you can take polaroid style pictures that look really good. I think its a great app, and I'll pay for a full version if it ever comes out. There is even a group on FLICKR.com that you can send the photos too. My only gripe is that its hard to see the cropping when you are taking the picture, maybe in a future release, there can be a mask that will accurately represent how the image cropping will look on the finished virtual polaroid. Fun app! Get it for sure, its a keeper.

A lot of fun for free!  rating of Polarize

I really am enjoying this app! It does just what it says. Simply converts pics into real Polaroid-like snaps! It darkens it a bit, makes it a little grainy, just like a Polariod would look. You can take a new photo to have converted, or use existing pics from your phone (which I like!) You can also add hand-written text at the bottom of the photo.....so cool! You can't complain for free - if you don't like it, delete it.

I thought life was good when Poladriod came out with a Windows platform of their software...then I discovered Polarize for my iPhone and I can die happy. This fantastic little app has me "developing" all my photos into digital Polaroid look-a-likes. Fun color effects and neat vignetting complete that special look. App even links you to a cool Flickr group for sharing your Polarized photos. Fun. Addictive. Super cool. AND FREE!!!

Pretty amazing  rating of Polarize

Ok once it a while it closes out on you but other than that it is beyond amazing. It took some pretty bad pictures and turned them amazing! If you have a pic where you have acne or something save it once then go to the saved pic again and it should basically make you look flawless...the first time you get on it though click on the notebook and it will be easy from there. I love it! Give it a chance!

Super! From a happy shopper!  rating of Polarize

This is one of my most used apps on my iPhone without a doubt! It's simple; either take a photo within the app, or pick your own from camera roll....and away you go! One of the best things about this app is it's flickr community, you can't beat it! It's nice to know that so many other people are using the app, and have a lot to say about it, it definitley keeps me coming back for more. And the developer always answers to queries or comments too (a big plus in my eyes, it means they are listening)... Now for some improvements, it would be nice if we had a couple more fonts to choose from (and maybe a few colours too). I would absolutely love to be able to re-position the photo when choosing from the camera roll, as sometimes it cuts off the main focus of some of my photos. This last suggestion, I'm not sure if it can be done already, if so, I haven't found how to do so yet: ability to add tags to photos when uploading to flickr. I think I've raved on enough about this app, but if you've downloaded it already (providing you like taking photos) you'll understand why!!!

Nostalgic  rating of Polarize

This is a truely great app! It gives a great vintage look to your photos plus the added bonus of tagging them. This app is a must have! Just two suggestions, maybe being able to move and scale the photo as it only works well if the subject is close up and in the centre and perhaps allowing two lines of text when tagging - obviously this would mean reducing the size of the font if it went onto two lines. Apart from those two personal niggles, excellent app - download it now!

What a great app?!  rating of Polarize

I saw this app on my friend's phone and immediately downloaded it. It's so worth it as it is free! Not only does it give photos an edgy feel but makes them more fun, especially with the option to annotate them, making sure you never forget the joke behind the picture! It is also really useful that you can use the camera to take photos quickly and then when you have more time later on, you can add the polaroid animation to the ones that you want to. LOVE THIS APP!! Deemed, a Must Have Application  rating of Polarize

(via my personal app review blog, ialejandro.com)
I’m an avid Twitter user, so often my twitter feed is filled with interesting tweets and the occasional twit pic. Recently, however I’ve noticed photos popping up on Twitter that utilized this retro Polaroid look to them and after asking around I finally located the Polarize app in the iTunes Store. Several things about this application caught my attention.
The interface or menu is fairly simple, you can either take a photo to “polarize” it or you can upload from your album on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Afterwards, you can “tag” the photo with up to 14 characters so make it something short, yet memorable. You heard me right, it does work for the touch, although it lacks a camera you are still able to upload your photos to the iPod Touch and polarize them with the app. Sure it’s not as great as having an iPhone with the camera feature but still it’s better than nothing. There is a community button where you can see the Flickr album of random uploads from people all over the world using the Polarize application. Some of the photos range from funny to random to amazing.
If you’re worried about the precious space on your iPhone/iPod Touch worry not. Polarize is a mere 1.8MB, which will barely make a dent in your storage capacity on your device. To top it off, the application is free and who can argue with a free application? Especially with all the ridiculous amount of free apps out there that are down right stupid, (how many more fart or burp apps do we need, really?)
Overall, with as much fun as I’ve had with this application I would have gladly paid a small price for it. I’ve made some great photos for friends, family and randomness that I’ve enjoyed. Check out my random photos below. Finally, do NOT let the 2 1/2 star rating on the App Store fool you, I really don’t understand why it received such low ratings even after reading some of the childish reviews. This is a great application for those of you want that retro look to your photos. I miss the old Polaroids and didn’t know they no longer make the cameras anymore until my best friend informed me. This is a great application to your iPhone/iPod Touch.

of all the photo apps i have, this is THE app i keep loving! lets me take existing photos and turn them into polaroids! love this.
improvements would be to have alternative border for the while polaroid and also an option to move/scale the pic before adding the effect.
right now, the surprise after process is still fun, but could use some more options for TOTAL MAXIMUM AWESOMENESS>!

Awesome app!  rating of Polarize

This app is great! The effect applied to photos is awesome and I like the fact that you can apply other effects from other apps and import the pictures to Polorize and still get a higher effect! The best selling point to this app is the ability to write a message under the picture. I'm also digging the handwriting. Maybe an improvment could be different types of handwriting, but so far this app is great!

To the idiots who say it doesn't do anything....u...ah wow I have now words for how dumb u r. This app is fantastic! It is similar to the Japanese developers in it's amazingness! U are a great developer chris. I have all ur apps. Anyways. This does add an effect! It is that similar to toycamera. It enhances the color effect and makes the ting of the photo green/yellowed. This is a great app once again! And to all those who are dumb and can't figure out the simplest user interface next to toycamera. U don't deserve to be the owner of an iPhone....

Absolutely love this free app!  rating of Polarize

This is a great free photo app-especially now that the Polaroid company is defunct. Digital Polaroids, it's genius! The picture appears exactly the way a polariod would and it's free! I spent a lot of time playing around with this app and uploading pictures to facebook. A good update would be to have the ability to handwrite a message on the bottom portion of the photo like you would with a real polaroid.

This is just so much fun, and it was free!! I have several photo apps now and this is one of my favorites. It just stylizes otherwise boring images and gives them a neat flavor. I'm planning to test it out with prints soon, so I'll update my review if necessary after that. My one complaint is that you can't center or adjust the photos within the Polaroid-style framing, so pics that are intentionally off-center don't translate. Still, minor complaint with a free app.

Love it  rating of Polarize

This is hands down the best Polaroid-esque app out there with it's great output and true to life rendering of the digital photograph. One gripe, however, is it's stability. After as few as four and as many as six photographs in a row it crashes harder than any app I know. It makes reatarting very hard and I thought my phone was toast, thankfully all was well after five minutes. Easily five stars once the stability issue is resolved. Thank you for this nifty app!

Found this app browsing through the iPhone group page on flickr. Tried it immediately. Quick to load, simple and elegant interface. I like that you can choose from album or launch the camera from within the app. So far I haven't had problems and seems very stable. The Polaroid effect is great and the app processes it fast. Great job and hats off to the developers. I gave 4 stars cause I know you'll add more features and there is always room for improvement.

Quick and Easy  rating of Polarize

Second time trying to submit a review. Timed out the first time so this is going to be much shorter. The app does what the developer claims and does it well. The only issue that arose in the one day of use is that when converting photos from the album, after every 9 or 10 photos the app would crash (memory issue?). Not really a big deal since i was just messing around and plan on using Polarize for future photos per use.
Can't compare to ProjectPolarize as I didn't find it until after it was removed from the iTunes store and had to wait until Polarize was released. I like the addition of the link to the Polarize/ProjectPolaroid Flickr group. Being able to write on the bottom works well as long as tags are kept to a minimum. For examples check out the Flickr group. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Brilliant photo processing app which I can't stop using! It has one job to do and it does it really really well. The stylised Polaroid look and feel with its black marker tagging is spot on. If I had one suggestion to make it would be to add a slightly different tint to the effect so things are less "green". Other than this, I love the simplicity of Polarize and really can't fault it. It's fast, reliable, user friendly and has reinvigorated my photography. There's a huge Flickr community, and I've put some of my images on my own website at redskyimage.com. Best of all this application is free so it's worth downloading to try it out!

Fan-flippin'-tastic!  rating of Polarize

I've only just discovered this app and I love it!
It makes literally *everything* you shoot with it look fantastic!
I'm a Photoshop professional and a photographer too, but I love using my iPhone camera now and letting Polarize do the processing for me in its own unique way, and I find myself snapping away far more now than I did before I had this.
Only down points (for consideration in future releases..):
Polarize crashes after shooting 3 or 4 images with it, sometimes completely locking up the iPhone, requiring a hard-reset.
Higher-resolution output would be brilliant for printing etc.
Keep up the good work and I'm contributing images I've taken to the Flickr group!
