Installs lock up, then the big problems begin
By: Leodavinci0 - Dec 18, 2008
I tried updating and it just hung on the install for 2 hours. Resetting the iPhone fixed nothing at first but a couple resets later I was allowed to delete it. Then I noticed, even though it was deleted the 500 mb of space I used with files was still taken. Reinstalling couldn't access the old data either forcing me to need to restore my phone to get the space back. On an old PB with USB 1.1 this took a lot of time and patience. Beware the update.
So Far a Great App!!!

I have been in need of a files app and have been in the process of reading reviews of all the File app's out there and this came up today and I love it more than the rest!
- Has very detail directions on how to use it!
- Looks to have the most foramts supported
- No lag on large documents.
- FREE at least for the first two weeks!
- Can navigate file menu easily !!!!!
- Easily transer documents!
- Password Protect
- Options to show hidden files
-THE LIST GOES ON....
- I just bought Folders app (greatly disapointed with folders app) but this app should have come sooner!!!!!! (will not mark off any stars for this)
Still the best document viewer

It's been a long time since the last review, but they really added a lot! This is great.
I have to admit that I was one of the users who complained when the pro version came out, even though they offered the pro version for just five bucks for the first couple weeks. I felt slighted. But this new update makes it right, now that you can buy the paid upgrade to Air Sharing Pro. This is a great solution... I haven't seen anybody else do that, at least not yet.
Anyway, if you have Air Sharing, you want to buy the upgrade. If you don't have it yet, I wouldn't buy Air Sharing Pro... Buy Air Sharing first and then upgrade if you like it.
Most valuable application of all the other 3000+ apps

This is a feature that I was looking forward from apple for a long time. This was my first request to apple through their feedback - they never responded. This is amazing, you guys have done a great job. The application is very useful. Never guessed running a webserver within this tiny device was merely possible. I am using it 100%. Looking up a pdf/txt file from an email while talking on the phone with a friend or customer representative with my iPhone (Edge) has always been trouble. Since both talking and file lookup doesn't always work simultaneously. This application solves that issue entirely. Now I don't have to send every one of those files which I would love to have with me all the time to my email. All I need to do is to move from one folder to another on my windows xp machine. I hope the developer would bring in more file formats readable eventually (xls, doc, ppt, pps, etc). From my last two days of usage, I only found one issue (not a real issue though) - if you transfer jpgs of size 3MB+ from my nikon D80 the viewer doesn't function well. Nonetheless, this is the best application I found on app store after my appreciation for Pandora.

This is an amazingly done piece of software! It's well designed, it works exactly as you'd want, it's completely intuitive, has built-in help for Macs, Windows, Linux, and browsers, and opened anything I threw at it. In fact, it's much faster than iTunes if you just want to load a couple of songs onto your iPod or iPhone to listen quickly, or even a movie (it will play these with QuickTime). And it lets you use your device as a portable flash memory, without having to plug it into a USB port (which has some cool implications...). It even looks nice! And getting it free is even better :-) Thanks, Avatron, this app rocks!

This is one my best apps it works seemlessy with any operating system i've now used it w2k, xp and I'm about to hook it up with Linux. Paying £2.99 for a data key which can potentaly hold upto 32GB is pretty good and it supports a wide range of formats. But the only comment I have is of editing, it would be cool and insure there is alot of improvement coming to this app with iPhone 3.0, I would like to see editing but how easy it would be on a 3.5" screen?
But overall a very good app with loads of potental aswell.
The best and most useful app for the Ipod Touch!!!
By: Simon Bainbridge - 13-Apr-2009
I have been using this app for about 2 months and it is so useful to me in my work / home. This app extends the functionality of the device by enabling it to be used as a wireless portable drive. Also it is good for viewing files and I have not found any types of file that I currently own that cannot be viewed through this app.
It has been a very stable app that has not crashed once in all the time I have been using this. The only problem that I have had was that I could not connect it to my Mac using the connect to server. But this problem was not because of the app but instead a permissions problem with my Mac's hard drive, which I was able to repair under disk utility. I entered the problem on this app's web site forum and was dealt with within an hour and the solution to fix the problem was given within 24 hours. This shows that this app has exceptional technical support as well.
SOME RECOMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT ARE: 1) Tap to zoom in on a specific part of text as you can in safari as the pinch zoom can be a bit fiddly. 2) The ability to edit text on the device through this app. 3) Cut & Paste if number 2 can be added.
Overall this is a fantastic app that can make your life a lot easier and the Ipod Touch or Iphone extremely fun and useful to use.
I have now been using this app for nearly a year and it has become a very stable / useful app. I could not do without this app now!
He told us it was free for a limited time
By: Lambydude - Sep 24, 2008
Please stop complaining and giving 1-star reviews because it is no longer free. The developer said from the beginning that it would be free to download for two weeks, and after that, those who did not already get it would have to pay $7. It's that simple.
It's not a bait-and-switch, people. It's called a LIMITED TIME OFFER. He didn't have to give it away for free at all. And if you already got it when it was free, you won't be hit with a mandatory update that charges you the full price. Sorry if you missed your chance, but that's no reason to take it out on the developer.
Which brings me to my next point. This is actually worth more than $7 considering it turns your iphone/iPod touch into a WIRELESS USB. That means you could put all those spare gigabytes of memory to good use. Need to take a photo, word document, powerpoint presentation, you name it, and bring it along with you to work? This is for you. Just put the files on your touch/phone from your home computer and then wirelessly transfer the files to the storage device of your choice.
Considering high-end USBs usually cost WAY MORE THAN $7, this app is kind of a steal. If you're on the fence about buying it or not, you only need to ask yourself if you would ever plan on using a portable file transfer device (not everyone does). Overall this is one of the best apps available on the market. It adds revolutionary functionality to the iphone/iPod touch and I would be hard-pressed not to recommend this to you.
FREE!?!?!? Are you crazy, I would have easily paid $10 for this!!!
By: Jonathan_Melville - Sep 11, 2008
This app is simply amazing! I can't believe it supports Safari Web Archives. That means I can now save entire web pages and load them to my phone to look at later. Awesome! And the best part of all is the syntax highlighting of code. I just loaded up a bunch of CSS files to have as backups and sure enough, the syntax highlighting is perfect! And it doesn't require any special software to upload/download files. To the amazing developers of this app, I actually feel guilty downloading this app for free. You did an amazing job and you deserve to get paid for your efforts. Keep it up!!!
This app doubled the value of my iPhone. Beautifully written, excellent UI.
By: Freefare - Sep 13, 2008
Other app developers could (should) learn from these folks. This is a brilliantly executed application. It is amazingly easy to use and the first few times I used it I could not believe how easy it was to use. It's really a bit surreal.
I put an alias to my iPhone in my dock... I click on that alias - and my iPhone opens on my desktop on my MacBook Pro. I dragged in documents, pdfs, even movies and music - and they instantly showed up on the phone. The best part is they are VIEWABLE on the phone. This is the hands-down-best iPhone app I've seen so far. Keep up the great work Avatron.
8 thumbs up!

Unbelievable program. So simple to use, on Mac anyway. There are no other programs like it available and it really allows you to utilize your iPhone's full potential. Not only does it allow you to carry almost any type of document available, but it also turns your phone into an external hard drive which is something that wasn't possible before with iPhone, only with iPod. Good on you guys and good job making it free to start to get your name out there!

I thought I wouldn't be able to read my IT books on the go because ebook readers like Amazon's Kindle can't display figures, graphs, charts, etc; just words. Even if they show the PDF of my book, it wouldn't render correctly.
But now with this app on my iPhone, I can finally take my PDFs with me and read them comfortably. I was willing to spend hundreds of dollars for an ebook reader if only it could render my IT book's pages correctly. So this app alone makes buying my iPhone worthwhile!

Best App by Far
By: Amazingracer - Sep 17, 2008
I saw a post on Gizmodo that this app was coming soon, and was so happy to get it. I had been looking for a good data application and this one is by far the best. Not to mention, free! [Well for a little while]. Had some problems connecting in Vista but the FAQ on their website helped me with those problems in no time. Easily transfered 2,300 PDFs to the iPhone with no trouble. The app also has no problems browsing through those PDFs or even opening them. My only complaint is that it have a search function or improved scrolling [it takes a while to scroll through 2,300 PDFs right now], but these are minor issues for an awesome App!
Does what it claims

I am probably not a power user of Air Sharing, but it has worked for me as advertised (I'm using a 1st gen iPhone). Set up is not necessarily totally intuitive, but the included instructions are clear, and I had no trouble getting files onto my iPhone or changing the folders, etc. Files are readable, and I'm happy to have some documents with me at all times.
I would love to see a future version include the ability to access my iDisk.
Good application with great technical support
By: BS1946 - Sep 29, 2009
I have a brand new 32g iPod Touch 3G running 3.1.1 which I am using in part to replace an aging HP IPAQ. When I first installed Air Sharing 1.1.4, I moved a lot of PDF and Word docs which were created on my Macbook (OSX 10.4) and could not open or read most of them on the iPOD. Avitar tested the files I sent them and recommended reinstalling the App which fixed the problem. Excellent support, quick response, and now Air Sharing works as advertised.
Perfect Document Reader!
By: Jammiegarner - Sep 17, 2008
I've wanted a way to read .pdf documents w/out having to sit at a desk or use a laptop for ages, and this app is the perfect solution. Thanks to it's abilty to read many filetypes, this saves LOTS of printer ink! Basically, it's turned my phone into a portable document reader. As cheap as thumb drives are, it's not worth using the iPhone's small drive for file transfer. But for accessing .pdf's/readme/etc, this is the deal! I don't know if it can recognize eBooks, but that would make it even more useful.
$7 for a wireless flash drive? How can you lose! It's a Triple Threat!
By: Kichigai Mentat - Oct 3, 2008
The app is straight forward and just outright works. The app does three amazing things that make it amazing.
First, it turns your iPod Touch or iPhone into an 8+ GB wireless flash drive. You can't even get a 2 GB USB flash drive for $7, much less 8. WebDAV is pretty easy to use, and security is optional, so if you really don't care if someone fills your device up with inappropriate pictures, you don't need to jump through an unneccesary number of hoops. Of course, if you care, it's right there too.
Second, it's an excellent way to "just get that file on the iPhone for later reference." If I've got notes for something, instead of e-mailing them to myself (where you can lose formatting and additional details, if not done right, and can be slow depending on your e-mail provider) or re-writing them (which takes time), you can just drag-and-drop. Perfect for PDFs, Pages documents, spreadsheets, even audio and video (yes, I've tested this). Furthermore, you can also manage files right on the device.
Third, it can function as a file server. Need to distribute a file to a bunch of people? Just tell them to pull up your device right in their browser, no security involved, no special protocols need to be supported or employed. You can also make it function as a drop-box. Either way, it's certainly faster than passing around a single flash drive.
My biggest complaint (and the app's biggest benefit) is the fact that it only supports WebDAV. DataCase supports like a million different protocols, but it's not as simple as Air Sharing. The problem with WebDAV is that not many systems support it as a read/write protocol. I know OS X does, and I bet you can make it work in Linux, but I don't know about Windows (apparently Vista has support, but I don't use Vista, so I don't know). On the other hand, because it's WebDAV, people don't NEED to be able to use the R/W protocol to read files (which is what I find happens way more than writing). It's a catch 22, but it's not the worst thing to ever happen.
Does exactly what it says it does
By: Sa7m - 12-Sep-2008
That the iPhone has the ability to view formats such as pdf and keynote files is fantastic, so it is somewhat surprising that Apple didn't include functionality to actually put such files on the iPhone in their operating system. This app adds what is missing and allows the iPhone memory to be used as a flash drive, and of course allows you to view any supported files directly on the iPhone.
The app is simple to install and get working, so long as you have a wi-fi network. Highly recommended.
Better Than Others!
By: KRAPPS.com - Sep 10, 2008
Wish this came out before I bought DataCase. Setup was easy and made successful transfers my first time. Connection is more stable & consistent than DataCase. Great job and thanks for making it free for us early adopters!
Mr.Dreams .. Your 1 star review is idiotic ... You claim you want to cotact the developer ... Ever try going to their web site?? There is a very useful bulletin board where the developer, dave, is answering and helping many users. Use a little common sense before you bash the app and it's developer.
