Great App - Developer Extremely Diligent - OS 2.2 Ready!

A great value! One of my most used apps. This was one of my first applications. Out of the 50 applications I have, it is by far the most updated. The developer is constantly updating this application and improving it. Apple broke it and others I have with the OS 2.2 update but this developer had it fixed in three days! None of my other apps OS 2.2 broke are fixed yet, so once again Ambiance is ahead of the curve.

Best of the "white noise" apps

I tried several different white noise apps, and by far this is the best one. Well worth the extra couple of bucks. It is a little more involved than scrolling and picking a sound, but for me, the sound quality and the sheer number of options makes this app the one to buy. I must have tried at least 4 other white noise apps. What I found to be a problem was the quality of sounds on other apps. I could hear clicking, or static in the background, or they looped often enough that the sounds got irritating. That is not conducive to relaxation or, for me, it kept distracting me from my work (which is already hard enough to focus on).

Tried a few other apps. This is by far the most flexible, yet very simple to start. The big problem is the iphone itself: because apps can't run in the background, they need to build extra functionality for basic tasks. So this app has its own alarm clock and sleep function, a huge catalog of sounds, downloader for new sounds, favorite lists, etc. Can use it to drift off to sleep, or as backgroud sounds for yoga, just great.

Don't listen to the haters!

This app is great! I see someone says there are not enough sounds?!? You must be kidding! There are literally thousands of different sounds, and on top of that you can combine sounds to create your own custom mix. I mixed wind chimes and one of the many different thunderstorm sounds to create a mix that puts me to sleep every night when I put my phone on it's docking station. You want to listen to the chatter of a cafe in Paris, they got it; how about china town in New York, no problem; I swear, any sound you can think of, it's here!

I've already used this one to lull me to sleep on many an occasion. These are quality ambient sounds in a wide enough variety to satisfy almost anyone. (Yea, even the Joe who can only fall asleep on the subway.) Bonus star for frequent updates! The developer has proven they care about their product and continue to support and improve it. Well done, dev. Thanks for the beautiful updated icon and flexibility in loading sounds!

I am a longtime Ambiance user and I MUCH prefer the newset release over any of the others. The new version allows the user an amazing amount of flexibility, including the ability to decide how much storage space YOU want used by their making the wise decision to only put in an initial five sounds and let you get the others you like FOR FREE!. The many ways you can customize the app for your own style and listening experience are excellent. Finally, the shutoff timer is a great addition too.Is the app perfect? No. But you won't find one that is. Ambiance has so many fantastic features for such a good price and performs far and above reasonable expectations. I would recommend it to anyone interested in this kind of app. Great work, guys. I look forward to great new sounds and even more feature enhancements.

The new layout threw me off when I first downloaded the update, but I can see why it was necessary. There's tons of sounds now at your disposal to download and add to the app as you see fit. Don't get stuck with a bunch of noises you'll wind up hating. You get to customize completely to create the best mix for you. The app is robust and quite impressive. Look around, but I've tried a majority of the other sound apps out there... this is the only one I've kept on my iPhone.

I use this app all the time and think it is the best app I've ever spent money on it's perfect for when you just want to sit and relax and by far way better then any of the other ambiance apps. And for the whole update ruin my app well yea the old verision was much more user friendly you really didn't have to update ur app to begin with but also I think the app Is nice now because of all the choices of soundsOnce again amazing app and anyone looking at these reviews trying to figure out If you should buy this app Im guarenteeing you you won't regret getting this and no I am not trying to help the creaters I am just a normal person giving my review!Thanks for a great app!!! :) :) :)

What a godsend to have found this app while helping out with my newborn grandson the past couple of weeks..I could create soothing mixes to help lull him into his much needed sleep and cover over the occasional loud sharpconstruction sounds and emergency sirens that kept disturbing his and my naps--they live in a cool highrise condo in a busy downtown city. Image my delight to recreate some of my favorite childhood memory sounds for him, like a mix of train rumblings & it's distance whistle..with summer crickets nearby.And I could create glorious & imaginative combinations of spiritual sounds to satisfy my soulful meditation needs--all veryvery easily!My thank you's to the brillant developer, who is also kind and helpful. You can find Matt under "more" for any questions/help or even adding your own suggestions for other sound bite requests..love that new ones get auto-added occasionally, once I registered. And for those of you that might have problems w/ the iPhone crashing in this or any other large app, may I strongly suggest that you look into the cheap & very easy to use app called MEMORYINFO, which I use several times a day to clear up unneeded memory and keep all of my many apps running smooth/fast. You can get the same effect by shutting down your phone by holding down the "off" button at the top--but that takes acouple of minutes--while this simple app takes only a few seconds to use...thus more time to enjoy the AMBIANCE of life! :-)

Outstanding sounds, superior interface

Having enjoyed many seemingly similar programs I was not prepared for my experience with Ambiance. Ambiance has the most beautiful and intuitive interface. The sound library is vast: ranging from the din of a French coffee shop to ducks and geese. Best part is that all sound loops are FREE. There are many unique sound loops and each are of excellent quality. It is easy to mix the sounds as you please and create your own soundtracks. The timer and alarm functions are excellent. The developer is very responsive and welcomes user input. This is one of those programs that make you say, "this is how it should be done."

Jeez would everyone just chill out and quit giving bad ratings just because of the glitch? The creators of ambiance have already recognized the problem and submitted a correction now it's just up to apple to approve it. They have warnings notices posted on the startup page of the app. If you can't wait for the update just delete it and redownload it. Problem solved. Ambiance is and always has been the best app out there in my own opinion so keep it up!

The ultimate background-sound app

It seems that some people who loved the original have found the new version jarring. I did too. And the new version could use a few minor tweaks and fixes. But it's still THE best app to go to sleep to, worth more than just $3 to me. I've found at least a dozen sounds that are good for sleeping and drowning out nuisances. This app has tons of rain and wind sounds (and a zillion others) and the ability to COMBINE multiple sounds, which is pretty clever. Lots of timer options, if you need them (I don't). Extremely full-featured--the Adobe Photoshop of sound apps!
It does seem odd at first to have to browse and download sounds from an online library--but it does make sense: pick the ones YOU want, without wasting space on others, and once you download them (which is easy) you have them.
And when you build up a big collection, you'll be glad that you can browse by photo thumnails and not just by name.
Two wish-list items:
1. If you download a lot, the app will sometimes exit after a download is done. Not so terrible, but a big worth tracking down.
2. I like the photo thumbnails, but your Favorites list just uses hearts instead. I'd like to see the photos there too--with a heart badge added to each, maybe.

Excellent Value

This app is *excellent* value for money. White noise and nature audio CDs can be very expensive and this app offers plenty to please everyone for less than a dollar. The lack of volume control is sure to be an issue for iTouch owners, but it's on its way!
I purchased this app last night and it immediately paid for itself. I was exhausted but my roommate was having friends over. Canal phones in, "Creek" noise on and I'm fast asleep without a single complaint (and I usually don't like falling asleep with 'phones in). This is a GREAT app and I look forward to many updates from the author. Well done, Matt!

Changed my mind, after the simplicity of Ambiance Classic the upgrade was hard to take because it is more complicated. But if you look at it as a whole new app it's great offering the user the ability to choose just what they like plus a lot more choices. An now after the last update it runs without crashing. OLD REVIEW = Looks good, lots of choices but takes to long to preview or download, files to large, crashes app on preview and locked up phone once. Deleting and going back to classic.

Newest Review Update: seriously, try this app. This app contains the best binaural, "color/spectrum" sounds...everything you could ever want. The developer is always adding more sounds to this extremely large and impressive catalogue. I have several other ambient, white noise and binaural apps but this is the one I turn to consistantly to relax to and fall asleep with. This is the third time that I have left a review because I feel strongly and favor such an excellent app. This developer has far exceeded and raised the standard that other ambient apps should strive for. Love it Also, the app was just updated with about 10 spooky new sounds for Halloween. I listened and plan on docking my iPhone on speakers so I can have a creepy atmosphere of sounds playing throughout my home for a party. First review:I love this app, it's worth owning. Brilliant application. I hook up my ipod with ambiance to the ihome alarm clock radio, set the timer built into the app, pick my favorite rain and thunder sounds and can FINALLY get some sleep. The sounds are so soothing, but subtle, not enough to jar you out of sleep but consistant enough to send you there. If rain or thunder aren't your thing they offer everything from cafe sounds to tornado sirens. You will find something that works for you. Thanks to the person/persons who developed this app. It's been a lifesaver on more than one occasion.

Every friend I've shown this app too has immediately bought it. It's that good. I use it daily, the sound tracks are excellent, there's so many to choose from and you can download the ones you want.
The interface is easy to use while offering great features. The mix feature is not to be overlooked, mixing tracks together creates the best effects. Mixes are not accessible from the home screen however, go to "more" and choose "mixes". There's so many sounds available with limitless possibilities for mixing that you can create just about any sound environment you'd want. And if you can't, contact the developer as requested sounds show up regularlly as new downloads.

Suggestions for updates: - add the timer to the main interface- add soothing synthesizer sounds (remember that flying toasters screen saver?) and allow them to be mixed in (or not) with the regular sounds- allow sounds to be mixed together- the more options the better! (I'm looking forward to the update!)- get rid of the louder static optionsOtherwise, excellent app, IMHO. Thanks!TAKES AGES TO DOWNLOAD AND UPDATE. SLOWER THAN APPLES POS BACKUP SYSTEM. UGH.Update 2.0.2I just found this update and installed. I LOVE IT. Great work!!! It could definitely me simplified and less bloate but the sounds are amazing. Clean, intuitive interface, a play screen that functions exactly like the iPod or iPhone music player. Very well designed and thought out. Sounds are crisp, clear, rich, and do not have obvious "seams" in the middle of the loop, unlike many of the other relaxation apps available. To those of you complaining that you have to register to download sounds:I don't think you understand what the registration is for. Registration is free, all it requires is a valid email address. If you're too paranoid to use your standard one, go get a free Gmail account. This app is set up with registration to a site that allows you to download ONLY the sounds YOU want to listen to. That alone makes it a head and shoulders above the rest. Why download a bloated, huge, ugly app like aSleep, when you can download Ambiance and chose only what you'll use?Also, to the people concerned about having to be connected to a wi-fi network to listen to the sounds: You don't have to be. Download the sounds you want to listen to, and they remain on your iPod or iPhone as if you downloaded them from iTunes. The price of the app is more than worth it, considering the author is hosting a website where you can download hundreds of high-quality sounds having paid just the price of the app. Add to that the timer and alarm clock, and this is a downright perfect app, and money well spent. Don't bother with the rest, get Ambience today!
