Reviews:
GREAT By: Jjhgheth - Sep 10, 2009 Version: 3.1 I have had the app for only a couple days but so far it's been great! no complaints really....
there's just one thing I kinda wish it had...I wish there was a place where I could write notes that were NOT connected to any verses...I haven't found anything like that yet...i want to be able to write stuff not connected to any verse(e.i. prayer requests) and it would be nice if in the notes pictures could be put in them from pictures on iPod...
thanks! great app!
Acro Bible is back and it is better than ever! By: 1scholar - Sep 1, 2009 Version: 3.1 I deleted the version of the Bible that was on my iPhone and the version that was in my iTunes application list (sync first!!). Then I downloaded the current version from the store. The new ability to buy or download added features (love Henry's commentary, ability to switch between versions of the Bible (I added the KJV and can switch between them effortlessly) and the JFB commentary - very good additions to this program!). I use the large text - makes reading easier. However, it would be nice to be able to choose an even larger font size. Even so, this is the best Bible program on iTunes, IMHO. I highly recommend it.
Update made it even better! By: jim.barr - Sep 1, 2009 Version: 3.1 Update: This is a first class Bible app. With the addition of more translations, commentaries, dictionaries, and other works, this really raises the bar.
As an iPod Touch user, offline access is essential. This app provides a rich feature set that makes reading and researching the Bible easy, fun, and very comprehensive. For us iPod Toich uses, the cost of this app is absolutely worth it to have this offline.
Great App & Customer Care By: Beaner0757 - Aug 28, 2009 Version: 3.1 My thanks to the developer for taking the time to personally and quickly respond to customers concerning the install issue that occurred with the last update.
Even though it took Apple longer to respond then any one would have liked that uses the App heavily, it was worth the wait. All is now well. The features of this Bible App are superior to any other Bible App I've seen out there, so don't let the recent install issue with Apple deter you from buying this App.
Great app despite current install issues By: ATCS2152 - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 3.1 People have been beating up this app pretty bad since the install update surfaced. I can understand their frustration. I too have been wanting to upgrade. Fortunetly, the previous version still works for me. Aside from the recent installation problems, I'd like to mention that this is really a very good product. I've been using Acro Bible NIV Plus for over a year now and I like it a lot. It's extremely easy to navigate to any book, chapter and verse. I normally keep it in the mode where each chapter is a small square and I keep the Verse Bar turned on. With that configuration I can get to any verse in just a couple seconds. I like the ability to quickly switch versions and to compare them in a split screen. The program is lightning fast. I've sat behind people in church using their Black Berries to access an online Bible and I'm WAY ahead of them. The one feature that I really, Really REALLY wish this had is the ability to configure Bookmarks more, i.e. be able to name bookmarks and put bookmarks inside of bookmarks. One level deep would be enough although more would be great. With that capability I could organize bookmarks by topic. I would also want to be able to control the sort order of bookmarks.
I won't be carrying my hard copy to service any more. By: SD rugger 7 - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 3.0 This is great, the fact that is downloaded to the iPhone and you can take notes is really the best part of this app, and it uploads to an online version, for when your hardware changes in the future! The one feature I would love to see is the ability to know where you have made notes, like an icon or something. I suppose you could just make a mental note that if you highlight with a certain color, that is your cue that you took a note, but a built in feature would be cooler. :) The price is only steep when you compare it to the other apps out there, if there was a comparable NIV available for less, I would've bought it, but there wasn't, so it seems fair! :) Would you pay this much to never have to lug your hard copy around on Sunday, yet still be able to take notes and follow along? Not to mention be able to check the score of the Padres game when the pastor gets a little boring? Come on... No brainer!!!!
Very Handy, Very Well Done By: Calvin Knight - Aug 15, 2009 Version: 3.0 Acro Bible NIV is worth the expense. It's by far better than the Laridian NIV version that I had on my Palm before getting the ipod Touch. That program cost me $30 so Acro Bible NIV for $28.99 in reasonable. It's so handy having the NIV with you where ever you go, especially on the ipod Touch that otherwise could only get the NIV when in a wireless setting. It's fast and easy to use. There's a small bug using the large font that is reportedly fixed in the soon to be released version 1.2. I highly recommend it.
Very well done and easy to use NIV Bible By: notsiskelorebert - Jun 16, 2009 Version: 3.0 The version 3 update makes this Biblr even more useful. I especially like the verse selector which appears for a short time on the right side of the screen, the addition of the reading plan, and the full screen reading mode. Please do not implement tilt to scroll reading, as is not a desirable feature. However, I would appreciate the ability to lock the screen aspect ratio in either portrait or landscape.
I tried a couple of the free Bibles, then finally bought this one and it has proven to be worth every cent. Now, my favorite translation of the Bible is always with me, I can bookmark passages, color highlight verses for emphasis and add my own notes. The History listing lets you return to a book or passage very quickly, even after looking through other books or verses. This program is really fast, too. I tested myself against some good friends who really know their way around printed Bibles and when they called out a book and verse, I was able to navigate to it before any of them could, not just once but several times. The search feature also works very quickly. The latest update, with a "home" button added for navigation (which takes you back to the book list) is a great improvement. All in all, a very well thought out and well implemented program, which I use nearly every day.
Bookmark BUG/Feature/Wishlist By: AzTeqi - Aug 21, 2008 Version: 1.2 Can't bookmark the very last verse. Feature marks the top complete verse ONSCREEN. Bookmark's Descriptive Phrase can help; still following sermon notes by chapter and verse is difficult if you're looking for {Book:Chapter:LastVerse}; the corresponding Bookmark is {Book:Chapter:3rd-from-the-LastVerse}; {Proverbs 31:31} is marked {Proverbs 31:28}. Does NOT diminish rating for me, though. Contrast to NOTES; it has a sliding bar to attach any New Note to any verse in the chapter. New Bookmarks could easily be implemented in the same fashion.
The Best Bible application on the iPhone, I've used so far!! By: None_JST - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 I purchased this NIV Bible, and it exceeds all my expectations. The user interface is excellent.... it is easy to use and extremely fast. It sure does beat using the Bible via a slow web connection. Now, I have fast access to the entire Bible all the time. It even works when I travel on a plane. I didn't know what exactly I was getting with this Bible software until I purchased it. The screenshot shown is probably atypical: using iTunes like cover-flow view for the various books. I typically use the text listing view of books. Bible Features include: Text listings of books, Option to sort books alphabetically (I like that) , click on a book, it takes you to a either a chapter list or a topical list (you decide), you select a chapter and it takes you to the verses. All within seconds! You can highlight text in 5 colors, you can add your own notes, and you can view those notes at any time on the iPhone or via a web browser when you are back in front of your computer. You can also browse the Bible chapter by chapter by flipping pages. Search capability is built in as well.
I looked at other Bibles. There are cheaper ones available. But I prefer the NIV version. It's easier to understand. This Bible costs more than the others, but I suspect that is because they have to pay the publisher for rights to use the NIV version. This is the true NIV version from what I can tell....I compared it to my NIV published by Zondervan and it is exactly the same; even the footnotes are the same. The only complaint I have is that when you start the application, the logo screen shows for a few seconds before showing you the Bible. I wish they would make an option to turn that off. It would save a couple of seconds. Even so, I can find my verses much faster now using this method than I ever could!! I recommend it.

Great App, but . . . By: dfPhone - Sep 17, 2009 Version: 3.1 After finally getting the update I found out that the search engine isn't always thorough enough. I put in a two word phrase "Spirit's fire" (which is an awesome capability) and received no results. I put in "Spirit's" and didn't locate the verse I was looking for. I put in "fire" and that was the only way (using one of the two words) - to get the 1 Thess 5:19 scripture. Yet "Spirit's fire" is in that verse. Might not be a concern for some, but it leaves an uncomfortable feeling that it might be repeated in other instances. I did contact support about 2 weeks ago with no response. (Which seems to be a consistency - no responses when the download issue was not rectified).
Meanwhile, hopefully Acro will fix this issue because I truly have enjoyed this app but now need a second version to make sure my search is complete.
Finally By: Ludatyk - Aug 28, 2009 Version: 3.1 It took some patience which was needed. But finally it's back and better, I like the in store application. That was a great addition. I actually purchased this app when it was first released, and when the update ruined it. I felt a refund was needed if i bought something and I can no longer use it because of a issue with the developer or apple. But I'm very pleased that the issue is resolved and the best bible application has returned
Great App! By: Imliving4him - Jul 18, 2008 Version: 1.0 I've been using this Bible app for several days now, and it is great. A few things that would be GREAT additions to the ability to write margin notes would be a notation icon (such as a pencil, or a little book icon) within the particulat Bible verse that would let you know a margin note had been written. It would be great as well if there was the ability to only highlight certain words in a verse, as well as the ability to highlight the entire verse. A few additional highlighting colors would be very helpful, as well. Maybe in an update soon? :0). Thanks for a great application. Great job!!!!
Speedy, easy to use interface; complete offline text with full search By: lv2jmp - Jul 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 This NIV bible is complete with no need to access the internet. I disabled wifi and set airplane mode; I then chose books and chapters in a rather random order, complete with searching for phrases, and everything worked quickly and without delay. Do not be confused on the application size -- the bible contains less than 800k words, and at an average of (say) 9 letters/word, this is only 7.2MB without any compression -- and the bible text will compress quite well indeed and fit easily into an application of size 7.7MB. I have longed for quick and easy electronic reference to the NIV wherever I go, without requiring access to the internet, and still able to quickly search for words and phrases. This application provides just that. Finally, remember the NIV is a copyright protected work, unlike the KJV, so the text is going to cost.
I like it By: RJKinsman - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 I like it. It was worth the $30 to me.
You can use it offline.
I suspect the higher price for NIV is because of the licence fee charged by Zondervan.
Things I like about it: 1) My favorite featur is when you navigate, the NIV subject headings are shown. 2) I also like the icons for each book, especially in horizontal display. 3) I like the history. You can review and return.
And, of course, it makes great use of the iPhone/ipod user interface.
One thing I don't like about it is that each chapter is self-contained. It's not so bad going forward, you just touch the forward button. But if you just want to go back to the last verse of the previous chapter, you have to go to verse 1and scroll to the bottom.
Finally. No more ipocketbible.slow By: drart - Jul 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 This bible is very handy. Beyond its highly inflated gotcha price, it is a great NIV bible for iphone. First off it is extremely fast and fluid. The search works well. Navigation is intuitive. It allows the addition of highlighting, notes and bookmarks which it syncs to their servers. Unfortunately there is no obvious way to view your notes and highlights from their website and it is unclear why syncing this content is useful.
a good Bible program By: PodHed - Jul 13, 2008 Version: 2.3 PRO's: - Good search capability (can search for words and phrases). Not all iTunes Bible programs have this feature. - Bible is read offline (no need for a WiFi connection). So you can read it anywhere. Having WiFi off saves battery power too. - Highlighting capability (in 6 colors) - Note taking capability. - Highlighting and Notes made on your iPod/iPhone can be synchronized with Highlighting/Notes made on your computer (at iBibleSpace.org). - Reading can be in portrait or landscape mode CON's: - Interface is a bit ugly. I'm reading the Bible on a nice LCD screen and not parchment, so I wish I could make the tans and brown colors go away. There should be an option to change the skin to a more default gray/white/black scheme. (Please fix this in an update!) - The nice synchronization feature between iPod/iPhone with your free account on iBibleSpace.org has some issues. I bought the NIV version but the website does not offer NIV. This still syncs to other versions on the website like ASV or KJV... but I paid for the NIV version. - Highlighting feature is a bit goofy. You can only highlight verses and not individual words (as I was able to do on my PDA 5 years ago!). If you want to change the color of the highlighting, you'll need to go to a 2nd window and select the verse number to delete the highlighting. You can't see the text of the verses on that screen, just the verse numbers. Another issue is you highlighted multiple verses the first time around and want to change the color of one of the verses. You'll need to delete the highlighting for the whole block of highlighting. - Highlighting/Notes do not automatically appear in your account on the iBibleSpace.org webite. You'll need to click on "Highlighting" and then select "iPhone/iPod" from the pulldown menu. A note about price. You'll see that there are different prices for different PocketLight Bible translations. This isn't entirely the fault of the software company so people who blame them are not thinking it through. The NIV and ESV translations are copyrighted works that the software company is paying licensing fees to. There's nothing that can be done about it, so leaving a poor rating based on that is thoughtless. This is why the KJV of the program is cheaper. Here's a hint for all in-depth reviews. iTunes times out after a few minutes, so your nice, indepth review will be deleted. This is an abbreviated version since my previous one got wiped out.
Installer now works By: Bobbelco - Oct 3, 2009 Version: 3.2 This version installed correctly with no problems. Even with the previous version, I found when I deleted all the other previous version it last one installed fine too. Probably should have mentioned that a few months ago...
Awesome bible app! By: erpabustan - Sep 17, 2009 Version: 3.1 Great bible app - worth the buy!
Great Program (again) By: Tomboyermd - Sep 16, 2009 Version: 3.1 Okay so the last upgrade was hard on us, but it got fixed and the new version is great. The new study references with the dig option are great. I love this bible program and it works flawlessly on iPhone 3.0.
