Description:
designnear - the first sophisticated guide to contemporary architecture made by architects for architects. designnear includes over 500 projects and over 1,500 images (as of 10-1-09), including important architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design and public art. Originally covering New York City, designnear now also includes dozens of projects in Chicago, Boston, Loa Angles, New Haven, Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis, Denver. Projects include information on designer (or artist), date, size, client and description. Projects are linked to maps and can be found via designer, project name, location, etc. You can filter projects by type. Want your project to be included? Got great pictures of a project you visited on an archi-tour? Send to projects@hopnear.com We will give credit to all who submit. Thanks to all who have already submitted work. IMPORTANT READ THIS: 1. While we have over !,800 images, we do not yet have images for all projects but are adding them as we are able to get them. 2. This is a guide to CONTEMPORARY projects. We include a few older projects that we find meaningful, but the focus is on early modern and contemporary work. 3. This guide is ONLY US CITIES LISTED ABOVE AT THIS TIME - we have no work in Europe or Asia. Also, we don't have all work yet in those cities but we are working towards that. 4. To get all of the most recent work, you need to update your cache. To do that you goto the DESIGNER tab, and select the button on the upper right and download the updates. NEWLY ADDED! - All Eric Owen Moss LA projects (with images) - Richard Neutra LA projects (no images yet) - Princeton University - new projects on campus (images coming shortly)

Reviews:
good support response By: EuroFlaneur - Oct 12, 2009 Version: 1.3 This app is really good - not flashy, not tech innovative, but it actually provides good content, not just a bunch of misc. garbage like most location based apps. And, most imporantly, it actually works which is also not something I can say for most other apps I have! This app is just right for someone who likes architecture - I used it this weekend to see projects in Minneapolis and it was super useful at getting me there and giving me the basic information. Allowing people to add their own comments would be one improvement I would make. Also, I'd like more images althought I mostly know the designers so I know what I will likely see. ALSO - I sent in some comments to support and was given quick response (I had not updated my cache and so I didn't see all the new projects). I think that should be automatic, and they said that would be in the next release which is good. Also, they seem to be very commmitted to long term having data on projects everywhere which would make this even better.
Beyond useful By: Betty Sears - Nov 27, 2009 Version: 1.3 First rate information, good filters (took a while to get used to them), and strong photos make this a great ap. I've used the "nearby" tool in New York and Chicago and it worked well. I've used the "designer" filter to answer questions--my own and my friends, which makes it lie a game. The photos are great--curiously "live." I hope there will be more.
