Reviews:
Would be even better if... By: Star2120 - Aug 15, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 I love this app! I only wish that it was a bit faster. For example when I'm
Receiving an AIM it takes awhile for me to receive it especially when multiple AIMs are coming through. It would be nice to be able to receive them while still being able to type my response without having to wait for the others to come through. And nice to have the choice of emoticons. Take
Examples from the SIDEKICK please! Otherwise great app!
★☆★☆ my belle By: .scruby_no_sweat. - Feb 26, 2009 Version: 2.0.2 I actually have no problem with the update. My app does not crash
And I receive my SMS when I'm not on the actual app. At first it would tell me who it came from but now it just say to "log back on" because I have a new message. I guess ill have to play around with it to see whats going on. I would have given it ★★★★★ if it wasn't for the ad that comes up. Pretty annoying. No one likes ads/ pop ups! But besides that I'm pretty happy 〠
Awesome PUSH IS SWEET!!!!!!!!!! By: Mgksuns - Jul 19, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 Had no problems and push is instantaneous! Unlike other apps such as textfree by pinger which sometimes I have seen take hours for a text and this is free!!!! Unlimited! Only thing missing which they said is on it's way is the landscape keyboard! I gave it five stars considering they said the landscape is on it's way and I GOT TO TEST THE BETA WHICH HAS IT AND IT WORKED GREAT AND I HAVE NOT HAD THE BETA CRASH EITHER! THANKS AIM AND APPLE FOR PUSH
Push is revolutionizing the
What are you waiting for DO WORK and GET IT NOW!
Awesome app By: Andy all day - Aug 15, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 Why are you guys complaining this app never lags, crashes, or freezes on me its perfect but one very vital detail left out... No landscape i wish there was because i never knew the difference between the paid and the free and now i know please can there be an update to add landscape mode and i think saying when someones typing kinda like omegle would be kinda cool or atleast make it like an option to toggle it on or off
lack of PUSH service, needs better UI. By: Chakotay F. - Jun 24, 2009 Version: 3.0.1 Well... it works when the program is open... but the lack of Apple's background PUSH service (should be fixed in 2.1 update on 9/12) makes this IM client useless on a phone. Also... This app has the look, feel, and sounds.... of a Windows app. It could stand to be more "iChat like" Basically... yeah its AIM on your phone and it works.... But its not as user-friendly or pleasing to the senses to use as other apps made for iPhone.
know the facts before u complain By: omgdudeitsjay - Oct 8, 2008 Version: 1.3 it's not aol's fault that u can't recieve ims's when u get off the app. it's apple's fault. they haven't released the push notification for apps yet so none of the apps are able to work in the background.
personally i think this app is a 4.5 only because you can't type horizontally.
but please, know that it isn't aol's fault before you start complaining and giving them such low scores. it ruins the overall score for the app
Doesn't disappoint By: ddb123 - Jul 30, 2008 Version: 1.1 OF COURSE it does not notify you while it's not open, that's not within the range of acceptable practice by 3rd party programs as described by Apple. This app works great on my iPhone; it does exactly what I want it to do. It keeps me signed on until I explicitly sign off, if I get IMs while it's closed it tells me as soon as I open it, and it is fantastic for IMing for brief periods. No one likely wants their iPhone dinging constantly throughout the day; iPhone users are more likely to devote small stretches of minutes to IMing. This app is great for that. I highly recommend.
needs update desperately!!!! By: Sean DM - Jun 24, 2009 Version: 3.0.1 This is my most used app only because it is the best of it's kind, but it could still be better! Please address these issues in your next update which will hopefully be soon!
-full landscape keyboard/mode * most needed
-be able to use the linked screen name(s)
-be able to edit your own buddy info
-be able to accept chat invatations and join chats
-have smileys
-we also need to be able to block/unblock people!!!
-hear sounds when buddies sign in and out
These are not crazy things we are asking for. They are all on the regular aim and could easily and should be on the iPod / iPhone version.
Like I said, this is the most used app of mine simply because it is really the only of it's kind. But it is far FAR from perfect. If you address the issues I listed above this would surely be perfect and even the best app in the store!
**IDEA**
If you address at least some of these issues on the paid version only you would get a lot more people to buy it.
Great app, just a few improvements By: Rubik's Cube 77 - Jan 12, 2009 Version: 1.4.1 This app has a very good start. It could use three major updates though. The updates would include:
-A landscape mode
-The ability to receive messages when you aren't on AIM
-A way to be notified when you get a message when you aren't on AIM (in addition to a sound effect/ringtone)
-The ability to send pictures
-The ability to change the font
-The ability to see when people are typing
-The ability to click on a hyperlink and go to the website
With these 7 updates, AIM will be simply amazing and absolutely perfect!!
Save your feedback if landscape is your complaint By: Read your stuff - Jul 31, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 There is so many people saying how they would like landscape. Why don't you just read the description for the application. It clearly says you get landscape on the PAID version. They even tell you the color of the icon! Of course you wouldn't know that if you are obviously not reading the description anyway. It's a free version of the app. They have to have some better feature if you are going to pay for the application so if u want landscape then pay for it. Otherwise why waste your time with a review on something they have already addressed. The app is ok and it doesn't work as well as on te computer but considering you are sometimes in a cellular network and not wifi you won't always get the speedy results or notifications u would like to get.

Landscape Mode and other things... By: Lucid Philosopher - Jul 31, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 It definately needs a landscape mode option; it would make typing texts so much easier and faster. Also, notifications would be great. Maybe an option to turn off auto correct or add commonly used AIM abreviations such as "lol" so that the iPhone isn't capitalizing it all the time, like this: LOL. An option to stay logged on for an indefinate ammount of time, or at least 30-60 minutes, or stay connected when iPod touch is asleep. Thanx for reading!
AIM By: cchaldo23 - Jun 20, 2009 Version: 2.0.2.4 I am always on aim and i use this applocation weneve i have no access to a computer. Its amazing and a has
good connection and works the way it should. However i would like to say tht thee are some things that could
make it a LOT better. For example u should be able to link more than one screen name to the application so its more like the real one and the most useful thing could be to make it so that while in the middle of a chat u may return to the home menu or any other application as well as turning off the phone and if and im is recieved it should show up exactly as a text message would instead saying "IM from 'user'" giving u the option to reply or cancel. also additions like font, buddy info, file sharing and grouped ims would be great.
More updates ASAP By: Cali model chick - Nov 9, 2008 Version: 1.4.1 Overall, this app is GREAT!!! My only concern this that when we're exited from the app we're automatically signed off and unable to receive messages. I guess I'm just use to always being signed from previously having a sidekick and unless manually signed off I'll still be able to receive messages. If only we can get an update to where even when we're exited from the app and unless manually signed off, we can still be seen as online as well as still receiving messages. I mean I'm interrupted from conversations if I get a phone call, understandable but otherwise I wish we can get msg's even when not on the app. For example, the way our emails works, seeing the red # to know how msg's we have. To get that feature would be the bomb lol. If that could be addressed and fixed would be great and if possible I would give this app 6 stars!!!!
AIM Application By: itz kassiee yo - Jul 23, 2008 Version: 2.0.2 I like how people came up with all these applications, but AIM really needs to be improved for the iPhone. I have one and when I go on AIM, it doesn't load my buddies like it should. I have to add them myself. And it says that they are offline when they aren't. However I have been able to access if once, and it worked fine. But now it doesn't want to work. I even tried redownloading the application on my iPhone as well, and that didn't work. I go on AIM alot, and I would like to access it in my home, without actually sitting at the computer. So I really hope this gets worked on. (:
Update By: Misstmt06 - Mar 4, 2009 Version: 1.4.1 I think that aim needs to add the horizontal keyboard feature it's make it so much easier to type. Also it should have a settings option so u can customize ur profile even more mobily. And lastly but most importantly I think aim needs to have a feature that shows how many aims u have before u actually go into the app. The same concept as seeing the number of texts u have before actually going into messaging. All these things would make aim 100xs better. :)
Could be better.. By: BROWNiiiii's - Mar 9, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 I think it's great that u have this app on here!! I use to have a sidekick and AIM was my life!!! One thing that I don't like however is whenever I respond to a text or answer a phone call it signs me out of aim. My buddies are always asking me why I keep signing off all the time and it gets a lil annoying. All I ask is for the capabilities to stay logged in even when I don't have the app open!!! Other then that keep up the good work!
Vastly improved 3.0.! By: asiandude195 - Jul 8, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 EDIT 3.0.2:
Highly improved interface, push sometimes even a bit faster than my PC, well done. The only things missing are different fonts, editing things such as buddy info, blocking/ignoring people, chat rooms, and landscape (which should be coming soon). I'm bumping up to 5 stars regardless, as this app has gone far.
Also note: push only works of you people actually update your iPhone software to 3.0 and turn on push notifications. If not, STFU about push not working.
Works well, has a few bugs. The freezing when sending and receiving IMs mostly. Makes it nearly impossible to keep up multiple conversations, total pain.
Tons of missing features that should be here to make it SO MUCH BETTER!
-LANDSCAPE KEYBOARD, so many people are asking for it, it's not that hard to do!
-CHAT ROOMS, make it like the real AIM for the PC! Let us talk to multiple people! I actually had to sign on my computer instead of using my iPod to have a rather important conversation with a few people.
-FONTS, I can't see other people's different fonts nor adjust my own, lacking in personality there.
Those are just a few things that I know people want! It doesn't even need to be on the free version! Put it on the paid version and I will definitely buy it, as all I see are complaints on how the paid version is a waste of $3 just for no ads and a purple icon. AOL, this could be so much better, just like the desktop version, but you need to work on it!
So for now only 2 stars!
Really good but some mistakes that can probly be fixed easily. By: Patman144 - Feb 20, 2009 Version: 1.4.1 I like this app but there needs to be a few changes to it like turning the iPod or iPhone so the letters are bigger and when you are in the groups section and u click on a group and somebody is offline it dissapears I disslike that part I think that we should be able to see that they are offline instead of going into the offline group and trying to find the person. Other than that I think that this is a good app.
Can't believe it doesn't have features even the most basic cell phone has. By: Gamerdude9366 - Jun 19, 2009 Version: 2.0.2.4 Even the cheapest of cell phones tells the person that you are using a mobile I wish it would show up on the persons buddy list that you are on your mobile. Otherwise, people may become annoyed with your slow response time and be unaware that it is because you are using a cell phone. Also, when the app is not running, it should tell you that you have an I-M. And I don't want it to show up as a text message, I want it to show up as an I-M which, once again, even the most basic cell phones have. I don't care what you need to do, but you need to contact Apple and let them know that you're interested in this, or it's not going to get 5 stars from me. It's a decent way to access I-M, but still missing many major features. I mean, this is the IPHONE! It's supposed to be the coolest and most amazing cell phone ever! Come on! Yes if you agree.
Gadget Junky By: Brett_Roby - Jul 29, 2008 Version: 1.1 With the exception of the inability to run in the background -- a common theme with all these new third-party applications -- in my humble opinion AIM does well what it sets out to do, which is send and receive IMs. Running in the background would be a great addition on a future rev, as stated probably 100 times on this review forum.
My suggestion: landscape keyboard based on accelerometer input, just like Safari, as I prefer to type with my iPhone horizontally. Apple should take note and apply this basic function to their SMS and Mail apps.
