What's all the fuss?  rating of PGA Championship
By: mightywong - Aug 16, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
Looking over a lot of these reviews, everyone's ticked that there are ads (plural) in here. But I can only find one small ad on the launch screen. I don't get what all the fuss is about.
One person was also saying that there were misnamed videos (which I couldn't find) and that the text wasn't resizable like the Masters and US Open apps. But text wasn't resizable in those apps, either. (I just double checked.)
I wish the app were free, too. But it's still a cool app and really worth it for 2 bucks. I mean, 2 bucks to watch every shot from all four of Tiger's rounds? You can't beat free, but $2 isn't bad.

It's actually a pretty decent app  rating of PGA Championship

The streaming of the video works perfectly for me, the flyovers are nice, and it pushes data about whatever players you mark as your favorites. It's worth a measly $2. And watching the stream on my iPod vs. the telecast on TNT the stream I'm watching is actually 2 or 3 minutes ahead of the "live" TNT coverage. Plus, no commercials is huge. People complaining about the ads are ridiculous. There are hardly any at all. It's definitely worth $2 if your significant other is dragging you to something on the weekend that you don't want to be at because you'd like to be watching the PGA Championship. The video quality is outstanding.

A Bargain  rating of PGA Championship
By: Traffic Gem - Aug 13, 2009
Version: 1.0.1
For many of us avid golfers out there, we probably make $1.99 in one minute of our time, sometimes even while playing. But being able to watch Tiger play live, without commercial, it's really a bargain. That said, I don't think PGA charges $1.99 to make a buck, or two really. Instead, I believe they just wanted to gauge the true demand of this app, and the potential in the future. If they would just give it away free, which they would not have any problem doing financially, there would be manyfold more non-golf fan freeloaders downloading the app that PGA would not be able to measure the valuable market stat. I think PGA originally wanted to give this app away for free and make some money with the ads, some genius came along and suggested charging a small fee to weed out the non-aficionados. Anyway, I think the value of this app is easily over $10, just for the live video of Tiger playing for four days. I get the point of all one-star comments about the ads and the $1.99. But now the tournament has started and I'm watching the live video right now, I'm totally happy and consider it a great buy, and my first non-free download, at App Store.

Instructional Videos Rock!!!  rating of PGA Championship
By: TourMaster - Aug 10, 2009

The instructional videos in the App are terrific. They are a great teaching tool for any golfer, beginner or advanced. I was playing this weekend and found myself in the fairway bunker. I had watched the video on how to get out of the bunker safely earlier in the day and the tips in the video helped me get out of the sand and right up on the edge of the green. The PGA pro's in the videos are extremely helpful. If you consider yourself a golfer then this app is a must buy!!

Live coverage, four days, two groups, wherever you are...  rating of PGA Championship
By: natouno - Aug 23, 2009

The live video has been perfectly fine for me and is *much* better quality than the Masters app. I've paid $1.99 to watch two groups play all four rounds of the PGA, regardless of where I am and what I'm doing - that seems like pretty good bang for the buck to me.
My guess is that there was some early trouble with the streams and dynamic content that caused a lot of noise, but it seems to have been cleaned up by now, so don't believe the hype. Well worth the $1.99 (which, let's be honest, is not very much to shell out - I bet the gallery at Hazeltine's paying that much for bottles of water)...

PGA Champion App  rating of PGA Championship
By: doctorgregg - Aug 20, 2009

I used this app today to watch the two Marguee Groups. I watched the first group using WiFi and the performance was superb - excellent resolution and sound. There were only a couple of glitches in 3 hours of watching. I watched the second group using 3G and the performance was great although the resolution was diminished for 3G - as expected. Those who complain about frequent interruptions should blame the available signal, not the App.The news section is very informative and the push notification is very useful. In fact the alert for the start of the play actually served as a great alarm as play started at 6:30 AM my time.I also liked the ability to select players who show up first in the standings before the full table. You also get alerts when players begin their round. All in all this is a great example of how a live event application should work. Great strides have been made since the launch of the Masters App.I look forward to better refinements as these type of applications mature.

Great app!  rating of PGA Championship

This app is great to watch and catch up on scores and highlights away from the tv. I really like the videos from PGA that give instructions about golfing and different tips to use. Also it is cool that they have fly-by video of every hole at Hazeltine. Definitely worth butting for only $2. All the people that say video quality is bad it's because you have a bad connection not the app. Video works fine if connection is somewhat good.

If your going to charge, at least get it right. Updated  rating of PGA Championship
By: Cshein8 - Aug 16, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
I don't have a huge problem with the price but I just wanted it to work right. The first two days the streaming video was terrible but I give them credit for fixing it and it has been flawless over the weekend. Would have been five stars if it worked from the start. My main complaint is that it does not even work as well as the previous majors free apps. The streaming video is extremely glitchy and almost unwatchable. It is constantly buffering the video and you end up missing half the shots while buffering. I had no problems with the streaming video from the previous apps. Very dissappointed. Maybe if they fix the video I will improve my review. Great idea but poor execution.

Nice app, but charging? And with ads?  rating of PGA Championship
By: oc az us - Sep 7, 2009

This is a nice app. It seems like they put some thought in the development of it. Nice features and sleek programming, but I wonder how is the live video streaming going to be. That is the bog question. So far the Masters app has been the best in terms of video, allowing you to visit the leaderboard while still staying connected to the stream (it minimized the video to the corner, but would keep playing). The apps for the other two majors weren't so great in my opinion. Now, charging for this app, considering that the PGA got sponsorship dollars for it, is beyond shameful. It's not about the $2, but about the fact that they are double-dipping here. And finally, what's going on with the official PGA Tour app? They always pride themselves as an very technologically advanced organization and yet still no app. Crazy!

Yeah, it was 2bucks, BUT WORTH IT...  rating of PGA Championship
By: VenomousCobraR - Aug 24, 2009

I read all the reviews first, saw that yes, its 2 bucks. Yes there are annoying ads. BUT, I am writing this review on my laptop while my iPhone is playing the LIVE VIDEO of Tiger, Paddy, and Beemer.... The video is HIGH QUALITY and guess what, NO ads during live video. This was worth it to me. I wont even use any of the other junk. I wish The Masters app would have followed key groups through thier entire round. Awesome, and exactly what I wanted. And honestly, people crying over 1.99 for a weekend? I spent 1.99 on a drink that last 4 minutes! Stop your whining....

Not very accurate  rating of PGA Championship
By: Kevin S - Aug 19, 2009
Version: 1.0.2
Well, after having to pay for this app, it seems to be missing some vital info. First off, when I looked at the tee times, there seems to be many players that are playing in this tournament that are not listed through the app. Also, when I went to the leaderboard to find some of these missing players they were not there either. Maybe before you charge for an app, you should make sure it is accurate seeing how we only get to use it for about 4 or 5 days. Thanks
