Description:
PocketDyno measures vehicle performance, providing up to 20 different metrics that report time, distance, speed, acceleration, and power. Create a vehicle profile to store and compare test runs or evaluate vehicle modifications. PocketDyno is a serious tool that gives **accurate** real-world results. Want proof? More than 800,000 iPhone/iPod touch owners have downloaded PocketDyno or PocketDyno+. Listen to what some of them have to say: “Not enough stars. This app uses your accelerometer to it's full potential!!!! Accurate results for people who aren't idiots…” “Suprisingly accurate. This app got within 0.2 mph of the actual top speed and within 3 hp from the actual dyno test. I was shocked!” “Works Perfect. This app worked perfectly for me… as close as I'll see without putting it on a dyno. Great app, just don't use it too much, It's not cop friendly.” “All the benifits of dynolicious for free. Very acutate and easy to use. Overall it does what it needs to do plus it's free what's their to complain about.” “Damn Good!!! Dynolicious costs money....this is free and It works just as good. I did a run last night and it was spot on…” ****** HOW TO GET ACCURATE RESULTS ****** 1) Calibrate just before a test run (temperature effects accelerometers). 2) Enter the exact weight of your car (includes people, fuel, & cargo). 3) Secure iPhone/iPod device in car so it cannot move (we need to measure the car’s motion, not the device bouncing around). 4) Start test run from a dead stop; go when the light turns green. 5) Drive in a straight line on a level track. 6) Read the user’s manual for complete instructions. REMEMBER STREET RACING IS ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS. PLEASE USE THIS APPLICATION RESPONSIBLY.

Make up your own mind... By: Egooo9 - 01-Mar-2009 Version: 2.1 The negative reviews are really quite bizarre. People sitting at home waving their iphones to see how fast their arms move need to get a life. This is a clever scientific app that needs the user to put some effort in eg researching the weight of your car, and setting it up correctly. Some comments are so odd that I am inclined to suspect they come from authors of similar rival products! So just remember public comments about any app are not definitive - you need to try things out yourself and make up your own mind...
Awesome, its touchy! By: Dimension_X - Mar 20, 2009 Version: 2.1 So I haven't used this app in while, and I fired it up went through the calibration, which took seconds and we took it out in my friends Civic EX. It said we did over 150MPH and went to 60 in 2.3 seconds. LOL! It wasnt mounted, I held it in my hands so I blame user error, and all you guys saying its useless, probably didnt have it secure either and are complaining for your own stupidity. Today I did a run with it in my Accord, I have a window mount for my iPhone, and tapped it for quickstart and trompped it. I got a 6.98 0-60 and it did get my top speed accurate..of 99.69, now I think my 0-60 was a little off personally, the specs for the car are 7.4....I was using semi auto settings so I got a little more powerband, its a good app I feel, its not as spot on as maybe other apps I havent tried. But its accuracey lies within the user. so a 7sec flat...versus the stock 7.4 not bad I would say, I am debating which app to get....PcoketDyno+ or the more expensive ones.....suggestions?
Try USING the app first By: caveman08 - Dec 29, 2008 Version: 2.0.0 Here's a thought how about actually USING the application as intended before you speak of the accuracy. As an engineer I can tell you this application is mostly likely based on the accelerometer in the iPhone. This means it uses movement to calculate the speed. Just because you can hold it in your hand and fake it out by moving the phone around doesn't mean its inaccurate if you are using it correctly. My brief experience shows that it's within reason with my cars capabilities and when I tested it's bigger brother PocketDyno+ out at a track and it appeared to be within a 1/10th of a second in the quarter mile, I'd only imagine this one is just as accurate. Besides the price is right!!!
Great app By: Dannox19 - Oct 30, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 For the hatters I'll asure you this app works as advertised if you follow the instructions. Movement durring the quickstart won't allow it to calibrate it's start position and will prevent the clock from starting. The phone needs to be mounted so that it won't deviate in angle or else gravity skews the results. Power readings should be taken in seond gear on many cars to keep the aceleration smooth and shifting should be slow and easy. In other words 60mph times and hp should be tested seperately with diferent tecniques for acutate results. These aren't problems with the software just problems inherent to the use of acellerometers to measure performance that will mostly be overcome if you mount your phone in your car.
I love this app and think it is a great use of the technology in the phone. The + version may even be an adequate alternative to a gtech pro.
Great Free App -- PocketDyno+ is much, much better By: sbleasdell - Oct 30, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 This is a great little app. Hey, it is free so you don't expect it to have every feature in the world... that is what PocketDyno+ is for. I tried the Lite version and was extremely intrigued and just had to purchase the + version. So glad I did as there is a ton of stuff in + that rounds out this whole dyno idea and makes the + version the best app on the store, by far. I was extremely disappointed to read some of the reviews of PocketDyno Lite. Without the intent of "slamming" any users of PocketDyno Lite, let me set the record straight here: First, this app is intended to track the acceleration of an automobile, motorcycle, your boat, jet ski, etc. This is not intended to see just how many horsepower your forearm can produce. Second, PocketDyno (Lite and +) are very sensitive to all movement. They can detect if you let off the accelerator in your car during the run, thereby decelerating and terminating your run. This is intentional and desirable for anyone who actually wants to use this app for its intended purpose. So, you have to understand these things before claiming that the app is inaccurate. Third, the Lite version *estimates* BHP based on the average weight of a vehicle in one of three classes: compact, mid-size, and full-size. Again, don't claim inaccuracies based on *estimates*. Buy PocketDyno+, tell it what your car weighs (don't forget to add for fuel, people, and stuff in the car) and play by the rules (see the second point above) and you will get really accurate results. Trust me, I have done it, over and over. Finally, don't necessarily consider PocketDyno inaccurate just because you don't get the same BHP as your new car's sticker says it has. The sticker rating almost never is BHP at the wheels, does not account for modifications to the car, added weight due to fuel, weather/wind resistance changes, etc. This app, unlike so many other apps on the store today, is very well thought out, and is very well executed. If you want to have some serious fun, get PocketDyno Lite. If you are even in the slightest bit interested in seeing what your car can really do, get PocketDyno+. Oh yeah, and PocketDyno is way better that Dynolicious.
Get "+" version before reviewing . . . By: Dukemann - Oct 20, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 Come on folks . . . think of this "free" app as merely a stripped down DEMO, not a full featured and/or fully functional program. Such is the case here with PocketDyno Lite. Many of the derogatory reviews are totally unfounded. There seems to be some people with no clue what an application like this is really for, nor how how to follow simple instructions to use it. PocketDyno+ (the full feature version) is currently available at a very low price, and has all the functionality anybody could want for a car test dyno simulator and essentially a timing system for doing typical acceleration tests. This is a GOOD program and it works, but the user must have some idea of what most auto enthusiasts already know to get the most out of it. If you don't own a car or have a driver's license or don't read Buff mags for car enthusiasts, this app is probably not for YOU!!!
it works, but how well? By: rageguy - 29-Oct-2008 Version: 1.1.0 it works. calibrated prefectly and does not crash. in terms of the app and the programmed code, it's fine, there really isnt much wrong with this app. stable enough and the code behind this is ok. the only problem is, how accurate is this method of dyno? there are too many variables that will throw the results off. overall, it works, but not well. not the programmer's fault. treat this as a toy, not a real dyno.
Interesting, simple, decent. By: Das Clo - Jan 11, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 The app is free, so it isnt the greatest, but it does work enough to give you a decent reference as to what the car is capable of. But! it is ideal to have the phone mounted on a fix tight position for the accelerometer to do its job, it wont be accurate if its just sitting there. A cel phone cradle will be ideal.
All in all its a nice option to play with. Those who treat it as a game or review it as not working or calling it lame dont apear to have used it correctly.
It works. If you know what you're doing. By: CT italian - Jan 10, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 For a free app, it is great, but the only problem with it is human error.
The people giving bad reviews have eithernot mounyed their phone well or had not calibrated it enough.
I tried it not being calibrated in a week and the results told me i basically owned a corvette.
So note to the bad reviewers; it only takes twenty seconds to calibrate, do it rite before you go, then maybe you'll have the same success others and I have had with the app.
A small idea!! By: TooT40744 - Nov 7, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 First of all I think this application is a great, cool and useful idea. With a little work and maybe a few changes here and there, by correcting a few minor bugs and fine tuning. I think if you could add the option/update that allows the user the ability to enter more information for example, just enter the year, make and model of your car? Also add upgrades like the regular modifications that people do to their cars, like audio systems can add extra weight and carbon fiber mods decrease the weight. Cold air intakes stuff like that. So that it would have an idea of the weight, aero dynamics, and a lot of the other important information on your car. This would give a great base to start from and an idea of what to compare your results too. I don’t have much hands on time using this app cause I just got it but so far I like it.

Lots of horsepower By: 2005 STI - Oct 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.0 OK so depending on the real dyno machine, horsepowere will vary. When you purchase a car for example a Subaru STi and the specs say it is 300 HP that is measured at the crank. Then if you take your car to a speed shop your car will register less horsepower because it is measured at the wheels. You loose x% of horsepower from the crank to the wheels especially if the car is AWD. The app will measure Bse horsepower, similiar to the Gtech device you plug into your 12V Power supply. If you want to play with the app. Test your car Stock(no modifications) then as you add modifications retest to see if you have gained horsepower.
Great accurate app By: RammsteinFire13 - 28-Dec-2008 Version: 2.0.0 I downloaded this and tryed it out. It takes time to learn to set up proper (onlne instructions make it easy). Make sure you give it a second before you make your run. Very acutate in speeds and times and distances are too. Great free app.
2000 HP inside my pants!!! By: CHIPINFOOS - 20-Oct-2008 Version: 1.1.0 I grind that fast so ladies reserve now and I will give you my 2000 HP package inside my pants, so don't wait limited supply's only.
Clean and simple By: DJ_Velocity - 15-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.0 Best car gadget on app store to current date
Must be mounted CORRECTLY By: Mister Lu - Nov 20, 2009 Version: 2.2 This thing is about as acurate as your going to get, you just have to input the correct information, and have your iPhone seriously mounted! You can't just hold it or have a friend keep it on thier lap or set it on the passenger seat people!!!!
Awesome By: Crappy appy - 29-Sep-2008 Version: 1.0.0 THIS is So COOl
AMAZING By: NICKJONASISMYLIFE - 28-Sep-2008 Version: 1.0.0 OMG THIS IS AN AMAZING APPLICATION :)

Idiot By: Ali (Scotland) - 04-Jan-2009 Version: 2.0.0 In reply to the guy who hit a ton in his living room, you were holding it in your hand, so the movement of your arms and the change in orientation will have given you inaccurate results. Providing you use this app as the instructions guide, it works perfectly and is incredibly accurate! Thanks again!
Top marks By: Mangold1210 - 26-Nov-2008 Version: 1.1.2 Great little app, works as advertised. Tempted to buy the full version now.
