Reviews:
Working at last By: brawgowfer - 17-Jul-2009 Version: 1.1 THIS APP IS WORKING AT LAST THANKS TO WHOMEVER DISCOVERED THAT DELETING THEN DOWNLOADING AFRESH STOPPED THE APP CRASHING.. THANKS TO THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM FOR GETTING THIS SORTED OUT BEFORE THE CHAMPIONSHIP FINISHES And if you can get down to Turnberry you must go the course is in superb condition I am being unfair? The full features of this app cannot be reviewed until the Championship starts but the few reviews of this free app appear to have been written by people close to the development team. So what is wrong with this app? 1. The news stories are scraped directly of the official Open website and have to be stretched and moved around the iphone screen to make them legible. No attempt has been made to generate iphone interface material. This is now fixed (15 July) 2. By 11th July 22 video clips were purportedly available for view. These include videos of each hole, reviews of local qualifying and last years open. However only 3 of these clips actually play back on the iPhone When you attempt to load the others a message appears saying "video format not supported" Video format fixed on 12 July rating increased hopefully the rest of the app will be in full working order for start of the Open. On the eve of the Tournament starting the full functionality is available, but sadly the custom leaderboard is only partially operational. I have only succeeded in adding two players to the custom leaderboard. Users have to scroll down the list of players and select those they wish to add on. On my phone the app crashes out when I am about half way down the board. The full leaderboard is available though. So it is a useable app and pity you I cant take the phone with me onto the course tomorrow. If any from the R&A is reading this I am sure they too are disappointed that this very public application does not come up to the standards we expect from the R&A. Now to head off to Turnberry!! 3. The Course hole by hole descriptions are presented in an iPhone friendly format. The text is readable, but the plan view of each hole (taken from the well known and much loved Strokesaver) are far too small taking up only about a tenth of the iPhone screen. All in all a big disappointment but perhaps reflecting the R&A's understandable aversion to phones on the golf course? If readers want to see a good live sports app check out the Wimbledon Tennis Championship (I have no connection with the LTA or the app developers for that Championsip)

Buggy... By: MTL_Golfer - 19-Jul-2009 Version: 1.1 Type "W" in the player's Search box... It will crash. Video quality not impressive.
Update:"W" bug not fixed in update. Rather silly. News delivery is faster and formatting has improved. No more zoom though.
Leaderboard: crashing more often... Almost always when trying to use the custom leaderboard. Useless...
Down to one star.
New update: Leaderboard crashes 100% upon loading. Really great idea for an app but seriously flawed execution.
FINAL update: before updating, try deleting the app and install the newer version. It hasn't crashed since.
Up to 4 stars!
