Hey everyone I have not yet Been able to try this app. But I had a feeling that I would be using it many times.. I travel about the same as everyone else in America despite the "rough times". But when your in a new town Maybe even a new country wouldn't it be great to know where things are and how to get there and not havin that feeling of where am I and what could I do?!? But anyway that's just my 10 cents. Thank you whoever created this hope to try it soon!

I am really enjoying this fascinating app. I live an hour out of a big city so get rather bored often driving the same roads. This app is helping me discover the interesting history that I drive through without having known a thing about.
I am surprised how many small towns and other interesting places the app finds around where I live. Actually, it found 12 and some that I had never known of. Learning the history and current info is giving me a new appreciation of my surrounds.
I am looking forward to taking more extended road trips and visits now that I have this tour guide to tell me what is around the next corner, that I probably would have missed before. Not only will visits be more fun but this can help me make more informed decisions about areas I might want to live.
HearPlanet is stable and intuitive to use. It uses the GPS location to know where I am and displays the sites and history around me as I travel. It also lets me search for places I am considering visiting or just want to learn something about.
I had a suggestion and the developer was very responsive. If the past is prolog there will be useful and enjoyable new features added to this app, and I'm looking forward to using them.
BTW, the text speaker is really quite good and easy to listen to.
I recommend getting this app before it gets as pricey as the usefulness and content deserve.

The concept behind HearPlanet is great for travelers. Rather than spend your time staring down at your iPhone trying to read the screen while out exploring, you instead get to keep your eyes on the world while listening to a virtual tour guide tell you about the interesting things around you.
In just a brief time playing with HearPlanet, I've already learned a few things about places near me that I never would have known about otherwise.
I am very much looking forward to taking this along with me the next time I visit a new city.

I bought the full version of the app and really like the addition of maps. Great job.
I also keep the free version on my phone and I really like the featured content you added to both versions in the latest update. I never realized how much there was around me that was really interesting. When I locate I always find lots of places around. It's easy to just listen and find out cool stuff without having to read.

This clever application is perfect if you're on the road. Thanks to GPS, it automatically shows you interesting things around you wherever you go. Even better, it provides the information in audio so you can just listen instead of reading and scrolling.
In addition to the automatic local search you can also search anywhere in the world. I tried a few really obscure places and it found them, and listed stuff nearby. Pretty Cool! Definitely taking this on my next trip.

You may select your CURRENT LOCATION (GPS will locate where you are currently) and from there you may get information on towns around and either read about a given town or press the play button for the audio, which will read the text for you. You may also select a location by typing in the city or town (do NOT include the comma and the state as it will not understand). For example: La Plata (after typing in "La Plata" press search, and "HearPlanet" will search and then list a number of "La Plata" finds (La Plata county, Colorado; La Plata, MO, etc.) This is a nice app and very useful to anyone wanting to learn about the overview, history, geography, demographics, Politics, Community amenities, education, and business (Listed under TOPICS of a given town). I liked the audio option; however, for those that are a bit too long it is a bit faster to read through the text. The picture previews are also helpful -- though no pictures or videos exist within any of the subjects. And that's OK as it would take more memory to load photos and videos! This software was well thought out and offers the reader all the BASIC information on any given city or town. The "Notable past residents" and "Trivia" is an excellent addition to some of the areas and not necessary for ALL towns and cities as it may not apply. (You guys did a great job on my hometown of Huntington Beach, CA)
Sorry, I can't think of anything else to ADD to this application. For what this APP is you've done it. Thank you for the APP.

Super-happy with this application; I really like the detailed content for San Francisco and other areas, and it reads it out loud quite well. I wasn't sure if I'd need this, but figured it might help my parents who aren't too familiar with the area. They loved the app, have used it constantly during their trip to find out new and interesting places to see. They did request that the font size be adjustable, or tiltable so it can use the screen sideways. Definite must-buy for any traveler.

I've downloaded this and this is the first time I have written a review about any Iphone software. The moment I turned it on it took my GPS position and gave me a wealth of information about my area. First class product, and free - what more could one ask for? To those who tried it and dumped it because it gave ONE piece of wrong information, which was prbably wrong on Wikipedia anyway, you're not giving it a chance. Maybe you should try using it somewhere else before you slate it, and see how useful it is!

Been playing with this for a couple of days and it works great - and I'm in Regional Victoria.
It grabs your location, gets some articles from Wikipedia and other sources and then you can either read them yourself and discover the area, or have them read to you by a pretty decent text-to-voice program.
This will be great for traveling on trips to see what's around the town I am visiting.

Wow! I live in Winnipeg, Canada and I'm surprised that the app has so many neat facts about my city. I'm also impressed with the voice in the program. It's nice and easy to listen too.To those who are having problems with connecting to the server, here is how you fix it:Make sure in your iPhone/iTouch Settings, that "Location Service" (or whatever it's called) is turned ON before using that app! Pressing "Allow" (when prompted by the the app to use the Location Service) before the setting has been turned on manually, will result in a server error.Please for next time, press the "report a problem" instead of giving a negative review for an application you can't use because of your limited know-how of your iPhone/iTouch. Thanks!

I am loving this app! I imagine this would be the perfect for road warrior or lone traveler in unfamiliar places. Sometimes you find yourself in unfamiliar cities and don't have to time to join a tour or in one place to buy a whole book on the place. This is perfect! The AI voice is bearable and more natural sounding than most I've heard. If you travel a lot or even like to learn about the place you on download this!

I have this little thing about me where I won't uninstall an app without first giving it some sort of review, thus this post.
The fact is, I decided to try this app out just for the hell of it. It appears to be a pretty solid app, but then, I haven't spent much time with it to really give it a fair review. It didn't work when I first got it, but this 1.5 version seems to have fixed that.
So, until I actually start visiting places other than my own hometown, I think I'll set this app on the back burner for a while. Perhaps another time I can pick it up again and give it another go; maybe even get the full version if I like it enough. ;-)

... but with a voice synthesizer. There are no options to move where you are, so if you want to listen about areas you're not in, there isn't an easy way to do it. From the description, I throught it was some sort of walking tour database (ie: in museums, historical sites), but it's basically just a wikipedia portal which speaks the areas. Handy if you are in bright sunlight and don't want to read, but limited in that you can't search or pick articles from Wikipedia directly (ie: see a statue of Winston Churchill, look him up, listen to his history).
