Works great, will use  rating of Mobile Translator
By: Blood - 23-Nov-2008
Version: 1.0
IThe people who posted that it does not work lack common sense The proper way to make it work is to press the setting button. Then press the + button, and add any two languages. At this point you must select the languages (only 2 languages that are in the same line). You will be taken back to the first screen where you will have to make sure the arrow is pointing towards what language you want to translate to (you can tap the arrow to make it switch sides).

Nice... But has got room for improvement.  rating of Mobile Translator

It froze on me within 5 minutes, so I ain't gonna give it my fifth star. It's a good app, I like the user interface, but damn does it make me wanna paste what I translate into an SMS or Mail, you get an app in the App Store that let's you write an email in landscape mode which you can then, send to your Mail App, I'm sure the developers can do something similar for this app. To be able to export your translations would make this app very cool.

HI, all honorific customers  rating of Mobile Translator

I am a member of this app's develpoment team.
I see some reviews about this app doesn't support some languages, and someone says
the translation is not exact.
this is because we use google translator Engine, so something is not decided by us.
after all, I only can say Chinese and English now. :)
appologize for this, and our team will do better and better, and hope you all will
support us.
kindly thanks everyone. :)

Overall it is good, use the settings  rating of Mobile Translator
By: Behind the truth - Dec 6, 2008

Some people mentioned it is not working for certain languages, I think they are missing the settings. Just press the i button , you will see there are some many preset language pairs, if your desired language is not there, tap the "Edit" button you will be able to add your own lauanges! People try to use it , you will see it is not difficult at all. All the languages are working , simple , add it!

Exceptionally good app, but with minor issues  rating of Mobile Translator
By: Tony Davenport - 18-Nov-2008
Version: 1.0
This works well, and has an excellent choice of user interface. It has two small usability issues though. For westerners like myself the translation direction at the top of the page is the wrong way around. It should be Starting Language RIGHT ARROW Translated Language.
Also it is not quite clear how to change languages when you hit the 'i' symbol. In fact you just tap the one you want, but it looks like doing that is set to delete them. Also is the re-ordering option necessary? Seems to add to the confusion.
All in all a great app.

Good for food translations  rating of Mobile Translator
By: KWagle - Aug 3, 2009
Version: 3.0.2
If you want to translate menu characters at Chinese restaurants in the US, this seems to be the best front-end for Google Translate out there. (I also use the DianHua dictionary.) I particularly like that you can delete a useless translation (for example, the menu character for "shreds" is usually translated as "wire", so if you try to translate "pork shreds" you don't get the right menu characters) rather than having to clear the whole list. And the ability to zoom characters is extremely useful, though you still have to get the right characters into the app, which you can do with cut-and-paste.
If it could actually save a list of favorites--just in case you hit the clear button--and could copy the characters to the clipboard with one touch, instead making you open the old translation for re-editing and then use the Apple interface, I'd give it one more star.
And of course, it would be nice if one could limit the list of possible translations to the characters used for food. Then you wouldn't get "wire" for the shred character.

Great app, HATE it's new logo.  rating of Mobile Translator
By: I Love Red X - Jun 4, 2009
Version: 3.0.1
Functionality, it's great. But cosmetically, it looks horrible now. I much prefered it's old name and logo, the new book against the grey background looks incredibly ugly to me. If you don't mind the makeover, the app was great (at least the old version was, I haven't used the new version TOO much yet). But the new cosmetics bother me so much I might delete this app and use iTranslate or another app instead.

Almost there...  rating of Mobile Translator
By: TC (Techno Cat) - May 31, 2009
Version: 3.0
v3.0: Great overall. It just needs to have the dictionary offline so you don't need to be connected to translate stuff. Everyone that said it didn't translate anything: You misspelled it. Check your spelling! To Erodviorato: The English symbols were derived from Greek. Many are the same! So it DID translate it, the translation was just the same as the original because, in reality, it IS the same. To Manny;]]: You must have misspelled “you stupid” . I tested that exact phrase and it came out good enough for the average user's purposes. Meow.

This app's not finished.  rating of Mobile Translator
By: behind the mask - Dec 29, 2008
Version: 2.2.1
I've tried most of the other translation apps, and I really *want* to like this one -- except it doesn't work, yet. It simply isn't finished. I hate to give a bad review to a free app, but free or not, an app's supposed to *work*, right?
Pros:
1. The chat-like interface.
2. Previous translations are saved.
3. Double-tapping a translation creates a full-screen display of it, which is handy for showing to someone who speaks that language, for example.
4. The actual app icon is far more attractive than the bland, gray one shown here.
But I can't enjoy those features because so many things don't work properly....
Cons:
1. No matter what I do, I can't get this app to perform an English/Spanish translation. At launch, the app defaults to an Asian language (one of 5 languages that are pre-selected) -- and it remains stuck upon that one language. Tapping the Info button takes you to a page where you can add or remove translation pairs (and many languages are available). So I tried deleting all languages except Spanish -- but the app still remains stuck on that one, Asian language. In its present state, this app is flat-out unusable.
2. Despite the description, operation is anything but intuitive. For example, the main screen has a light-gray background, like the iPhone's built-in Text app -- except there's no text-entry field at the bottom. So upon launching the app, it's not clear to the user how to begin entering text. The trick is to tap the background, then a keyboard appears. But even then -- there's no cursor! So the user still isn't clear that the app is ready for text entry. However, if one begins typing, the text appears in a dark-gray bubble that's superimposed upon the light-gray background. That's fine until you've accumulated multiple, text bubbles on the screen. At that point, the dark-gray bubble just looks awkward. I don't get it: With so many cues already taken from the iPhone's Text app, why omit some of the most obvious (and useful) UI elements -- like a standard, text-entry field? This is a truly baffling and bizarre omission.
3. The dark-gray bubble into which typed text appears often obscures the first few characters you type.
4. The large-screen display is somewhat translucent. So, when active, any preexisting text bubbles on the screen show through too much -- making the display appear cluttered and making it difficult to read.
When this app is finished, I think it'll be fantastic. (I hope so!) But until then: Great ideas; poor execution.

This app is probably the best translation app for an iPhone/iPodtoouch but It would be cool if they could make it speak in more 4 languages.
