Description:
So why do you need a currency converter on your phone although the internet offers hundreds of them for free? Simply because international data roaming still isn't the cheapest thing to do.
The MoMPF Currency Converter does just that; it converts one currency to another. If you manually enter the totals as stated on your exchange receipt, MoMPF CC uses the effective exchange rate including the commission.
If connected to the internet, exchange rates of about 30 supported currencies can be downloaded from a webserver. Downloaded rates are stored in your phone for later use, when the internet becomes unavailable. Another useful feature for the frequent traveller is the converter's ability to list up to seven previously used exchange rates.

I read about this on the New York Times site, and while it seems simple enough, it's not very intuitive (hence the mixed reviews). You must first enter the exchange rate (on a different screen), THEN you can do your calculations. I, too, was thrown off by why this didn't update to the current exchange rate for the euro -- and what a difference a month has made! But the good thing is is that you could still use this abroad without having to pay data roaming fees (I think!).

I see the point of this. No auto-update to avoid data roaming charges while abroad. It would be nice to make updating rates easier than having to look them up and then typing them into the application. An option to connect manually to a site to get updated exchange rates would be great. Then it would be easy to update rates before a trip or when free WiFi is available while abroad. It does give you a good idea about how much something would cost in a different currency

This is the type of currency converter I've been looking for. It allows the user to input the rates based on what fees and commission the exchange bureaus charge thereby permitting the application to use the actual exchange rate rather than the ones downloaded from the internet - the rates banks use among themselves. The two things I'd like to see added to this app are: larger font for the amounts added and the ability to delete rates from the listing.

It calculates £1 at USD 1.57. Which is not even close. Really screwed up a budget I made using this thing, made me look like an idiot.
