I am a frequent traveler and am loving this app. It took me a little bit to figure out how everything worked (no instructions needed) but is well worth a little time. The best thing about it is that it is already loaded with tons of suggestions for things to pack and it is simple to delete items and add new ones. You can also have several packing lists going, start one from scratch, and see a sample trip. Now whenever I think about yet something else I want to add to the list for my upcoming trip, I just pull out my iPhone & add it - no little scrap of paper to loose somewhere. Finally, I love that you can customize the way the screen looks with different colours which is minor to some people, but I really like it.

MAJOR praise for the constant efforts to improve the product (upgrades seem to come every couple of weeks, complete with an explanation of what was improved [thank you!!!]).

I really want to love this app. I was excited to download and start using it but it's pretty hard to figure out. I'd almost given up on it when I kind of stumbled onto a way to make it work, but I'm still not sure I'm doing it right. If the developer included some directions for proper usage it would be a 5 star app because it does a great job of managing lists once you understand how to build them. ***************** The new version has instructions. The only missing feature, in my opinion, has now been added. Don't hesitate to buy this app if you make packing lists. We've used the app on two small trips since I purchased it and it worked beautifully.

I've used this program in an earlier version as well as this one. Reviewers who state that it takes some time to get your lists in here are correct--but I'm here to tell you that the time spent is worth it since each subsequent use becomes easier and easier. Eventually, you have all *your* information in there and it's a snap to get ready for a trip because your template items are personalized for you and ready to go; just adjust for the specific needs for the newest trip. The list of suggested items is exceptionally thorough, and it's easy to customize. If you want to shorten the list of "suggestions," they're easy to remove.
It runs smoothly and hasn't crashed on me yet. I appreciate the developer's thorough list of features on the support website, but it might be nice to have a screencast showing a sample use of the program to make it easier for new users.

Initially, I thought the same thing you are thinking: "Why do I need a packing app?" Then I thought about all those times I have left for a trip thinking "I feel like I am forgetting something" and inevitably I did indeed forget something almost every single trip. Let's face it, when you are packing for a trip, your brain is firing on all cylinders trying to calculate quantities, types, and varieties of items needed. Packing Pro saves me money by keeping me from having to purchase the item I forgot and it saves me stress (and keeps the peace with my wife when we are both packing at the same time) by taking away most of the brain work involved with packing.
Why I like Packing Pro:
1) It provides a high level of customization which allows you to continuously refine your packing lists to suit your needs as you become a packing guru.
2) It provides an intuitive list of items needed for your trip based on things like weather of your destination, number of people you are packing for, and gender (which of course you can customize).
3) It provides quantities besides each item description.
4) It provides check boxes (not just a simple bulletted), which saves loads of time because you do not have to second guess what is the suitcase since you can check off each item as you put it in the suitcase.
5) It is portable (i.e. - on the iPhone). This means as your mind is racing about what all you need to pack and something suddenly comes to your mind, you can record the item into Packing Pro and not worry about your overloaded brain forgetting what it was you meant to pack 5 seconds later.
Updates: From personal correspondence, this developer seems to a have genuine to desire to continuously make this a better app, not just take your money. I am confident the developer will continue to provide updates that improve upon an already great app.

I recently upgraded to the Pro version of this App, and could not be happier. The ability to copy lists, categories and whole catalogs between apps (i.e. Packing to Packing Pro) and between devices (i.e. iPod Touch to iPhone, iPhone to iPhone to iPhone, etc) substantially adds to the value of the App. It is an indispensable tool for travel and ensures that nothing gets left behind. Unequivocally worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.

New version is awesome!!!

I'm getting the iPhone 3g S, and was really sad that I was going to lose all my packing lists. But the new update has let me save my lists to be transfered over to the new phone with no problems. My wife and I are moving accross country and this app has been a huge help with packing. My only critique would be a select all for adding items to a list. When you make you own lists, you must create them one by one and then add them one by one. ( if there is a way around this then please excuse this comment ) Over all I love the app, and look forward to the updates!

Powerful app for planning trip, big or small

I've been using Packing, and loving it, for about a month and a half. I decided to try Packing Pro, and it is even better. Both programs work by allowing you to create packing lists for an upcoming trip, or as a general list to use over and over. There are templates, or you can start from scratch and add items from a catalog that you navigate by category. In Packing Pro, the layout can be customized to simplify your list, or make it a tracker for every item and quantity of every item. The Pro version adds a packing list wizard (my words, the app calls it the Expert) which generates a starting list based on the number of adult males and females, number of children, and length of trip. You can also make travel-prep lists (my words again) so you remember to get a pet-sitter or stop you mail, etc, before your trip comes up. Also, I've made recommendations to the developer, and she emailed a reply and added my recommendation. Recommended highly, worth every cent!

I LOVE this app! It is very customizable, visually pleasing, intuitive, and easy to use. I have only 2 suggestions that would make it perfect:
1) Add the ability to assign item values in the master catalog instead of only in the packing list. Currently, I must re-enter the value of an item each time I add it to a different list.
2) Add the ability to assign items to 'bags' in a packing list and sort packing lists by 'bags', as well. This would be particularly helpful if the airline lost one of your bags - you would have an instantaneous list of what was in that particular bag to submit a claim. It would also help to quickly locate an item if you have multiple bags and aren't sure which one you packed it in.
Add these functions and it will be a 5-STAR app!!!

Update: I have solved one of my frustrations and thought others might like to know: I wanted a sublist for each person's clothes, not just one big clothes list. Well I just figured out you can import and export within the app. So export the main clothes list, then turn right around and import it and name it mom's clothes, dad's clothes, girl's clothes, boy's clothes, or use names or whatever. You can do this with diddy bag items, to do lists, any catagory catalog. So it can all be individual by suitcase or person or whichever naming convention works for you and your family or traveling group.
This was a big find for me. I really helps me keep track of what I need to be sure comes back home with us. Packing to leave is never a problem, it is being sure I have packed it all to come home. Again that is why pictures for things like toys would be a great addition.
I am planning a 3 day trip domestically and the suggested expert list has more medical items than I own. I did not choose camping thereby implying civilation is available. If I brought all it says to I would be bring one maybe two extra pieces of luggage.
Luckily you can delete from the suggested list. I had to delete a lot.
That part aside, this list is very complete and is a helpful reminder of things you may wish to consider bringing, especially internationally where for some reason you might not be able to find a store or communicate your needs.
I can tell I will like the re-usability of the check lists and will likely create more than just packing lists.
I will likely create lists or sub-lists for each person on the trip. I think the notes field may work but I am not sure yet. Just saying 8 t- shirts isn't as useful without knowing how many for each. I have a packing list per suitcase/per person rather than one master list.
I wish we could add a picture. My children like to bring a few toys. Snapping a quick pic would be great.
I love that the list is with me all the time. As I think of things I can note them in one place. I will have basic lists for everyone and use them as templates for each new trip where I will customize as appropriate.
Can you combine multilpe templates into one new list?

I liked Quinn's Packing app so much that I had to try out this one as well, and I wasn't disappointed! Besides all the flexibility and options of Packing, Packing Pro also helps me create customized lists with an 'Expert' tool, and lets me choose the colors and fonts for the entire app. I'm putting this one on my front page!

This is simply one of the most useful apps I've ever had. And with new sync features got even better.
The only thing it needs now is a desktop client to crate lists on PC or MAC.
The latest feature that aloowes adding items in groups made creating lists a snap. A+
