This CrossCountry Trains application provides real time, accurate information about train times for journeys across the entire UK rail network. This is an official application from CrossCountry Trains, with fully licenced and accurate live information.
Information in real-time
Wherever you are, you can get all the most up-to-date travel information directly on your iPhone. It doesn't matter whether you're on board of a train or if you're picking somebody up at the station - with CrossCountry Trains you know if your train is on schedule.
Up to date travel information
If there are any disruptions or delays, you can access information about these and plan alternative routes whilst on the move, on your iPhone.
Plan your journey
Plan your journey between stations with Trip Planner, or between your current location and your final destination. Access information about platform numbers, actual arrival and departure times and walking time to the station. Also access information about the route of the train including final destination (to help you on those unfamiliar journeys – when you get to the station you know which train you’re looking for on the departure boards) and all scheduled stops.
Favourite destinations
Save your favourite destinations. Plan your trips to your favourite destination from your current location – including how long it will take you to walk there and a series of available train times.
Maps
See a map of the local area, to help you plan your route to or from the station.
Please note that an active mobile connection is required to access live timetable and location information.

Incredible - better than National Rail and iTrainLive

I didnt want to pay National Rail £4.99 for an app that helps me give them money, so tried iTrainlive. That is hopeless as an application, not much better than just browsing to a web site from your phone. So, I paid the £4.99 and have been pretty happy with that app. I didnt like the fact that platform information was only shown on a few stations, their help (which is not built in but on a seperate web site) says that you should check online to see if platform info is available for the station that you are interested in, but that's not much help!
Anyway, Train Search offers all the features of the National Rail app, for free and does it much better. The platform information is much more comprehensive, the train running times are built in to the search results, and the walking routes around the stations are great as well and really useful.
An absolute no-brainer for anyone that travels by train (even if you only do it occasionally)
Oh yes and dont be put off thinking that it is only for Cross Country trains, it has all the train operators for the UK.
Wish list? Well if you could buy tickets from within the app, or at least see pricing then that would be fantastic (buying a ticket would let you collect it at the station, or better give a barcode that could be presented on the train)..one day maybe..

I've been tempted to get the National Rail app for months but have always resisted due to the ridiculous and greedy price tag. Today, I thought I would buckle and buy it but made a last attempt at searching the app store for a suitable alternative. Then to my amazement, I found Cross Country Trains had a free app which covered the entire rail network. And the app itself is amazing! Sleek, accurate and well designed, with a clean UI and lots of great features. My friend has - had - the National Rail app but has now switched to this, saying it's far more superior! Thank you Cross Country! I'll tweet you! One gripe; needs a better icon. Still gets my 5 stars though!

This urinates all over the National Rail app from a very great height. This app is superb, there is no way I would ever ever ever pay £4.99 for a train app ever. Quite frankly after what MyRail Lite produced and from what this app offers, anything more than £0.59 would be overpriced for the official app (and that's being extremely generous to them). Love this app to bits but still miss MyRail Lite.

I resisted buying the national rail app out of protest for taking away the third party app that did the same job... Licencing rubbish....Then whilst searching in hope of finding a free version I stumbled across this.I can honestly say if your looking for a cheap option of having a national rail time table and journey planner then this is the holy Grail. It works on every level. Currently it's free so pick it up. As long as they either keep it free or charge no more than £2 then this WILL be the number 1 national rail app.In case your worried Its not just London stations, it's everywhere..It shows journey planner with 'via' stations too, it has actual time table results too and you can save your favourite routes and just click refresh to see latest dep and arr times.It works, it's seamless, it's fantastic.I hope nat rail don't try to have this taken off.. Better than paying £4.99 for something you get free on the web. Well done devs!!!

A brilliant app, doing a great job of filling the gap left by the demise of MyRail Lite and far superior to the overpriced National Rail one.My one complaint about this app, and the reason it's not getting 5*, is that there's no way to manually set the "leaving from" station(s) and if the GPS fix is inaccurate - as mine has been - that part of the app is effectively useless. Please could the next update address this?

Stuff the £5 "MyRail killer" NRE app, get this instead. It uses the same back-end data, so is just as (in)accurate, and you can't beat the price. Lots of extra geeky information eg train numbers, platforms, and minutes early/late.1 star deducted because there is room for improvement:• app structure is very deep; it is easy to get "lost"• no way to plan a journey to "London" - you need to know which station you're going to• station search appears to use a web service, and is a bit clunkyNice one, Cross-Country. Now let's see Agant raise their game a bit and pay back some of that top grossing status in the form of improvements.
An excellent free app

Very useful, what I liked about this app is the easy of use, the layout, ease of navigation and it works in Surrey. Gave me a list of station near my home, time of arrival and departure map. Very quick with wifi but 3g didn't let me down whilst loading.The only improvement I can think of to show the distance in miles instead of kms

This app simply does what it says it will! It gives an almost perfect service to people like me who are constantly trying to figure out how to get from A to Z across the UK and by train. This is one of the most polished apps I have ever come across. Get it.

Free and utterly brilliant!Check out the walking routes when you need to navigate to an unknown station.So so much better than The NR version for £5. Don't buy a rip off when you can have this for free

Feature rich application. Takes a little while to learn how to use. V pleased with it. Why pay £4.99 for the National Rail app which is just recycling information already in the public domain. V nice touches - compact display, informative,store your regular jouneys,quick to retrieve results. Thank you to the developers.

The interface is a bit clunky at times but hey. This is still a great app and it's free! What's stopping you from getting it already. Seriously get it now. If it becomes paid tomorrow you'll want to kick yourself in the head. But ofcourse you can't do that. Lose lose.
