Reviews:
Very good By: Damnbanna - Jan 30, 2009 Version: 1.3 Does what it says guys. And to those complaining about the love police thing and them not being there. Hello! Cops are mobile. They can move. So for everyone else it would be wise to just not report live police and just post of as a hiding spot.
For devs
Great job! Here are a couple suggestions
1. Have the program differentiate between traps that are in the vicinity and traps that are on the road we are on in the direction we are travelling. Many times I find myself driving under a highway and it tells me that there is a police hiding spot around. But not where it would effect me.
2. Have a speed limit feature that can be toggles on or off to tell you the current speed limit of the road youre on when you get on it. Maybe a reminder to for every 10 20 30 minutes.
3. I use my phone with the ipod feature all the time. I plug it into my stereo through use of the headphone jack. Let us choose the volume of the voice alerts cause when I blast my music I can hardly hear the chick telling me there's a hiding spot ahead.
4. More voice options for audio alerts.
More people should use this app! By: SeanMusic - Aug 10, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 I live in the suburban Philadelphia area, and this app regularly alerts me to traps I know and don't know of. However, a lot of people report the tiny radar at lights ( to tell if someone is in the turning lane; to activate the left-turn arrow) as red-light cameras. Please try to see the difference! Not that I run a lot of red lights, but it's good to know the real ones; with those all too short yellows. Otherwise, it works as promised. Please report everything you see!!! It helps the community as a whole. (Do you think the Police have this, and are thumbs-downing all the know traps; thereby erasing the known traps? Hmmmmm...)
Awesome, but 1 or 2 new features would be great By: Lambo82 - Aug 10, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 Awesome app that is great for the speeding crowd (teens). I downloaded this app thinking "I'm going to put sk e no one has on here!" but they are all marked. Some I never thought of too.
I actually checked out some of the cop hiding locations it mentioned, some looked possible but I actually saw the cop cars at 6/9 spots it mentioned.
Another great thing is the notifications. It notified me the road I was turned on was trapped... I slowed down and sure enough the guy behind me got a ticket.
It needs a note with some hiding spots... But great non-the-less.
Very very nice By: NotVeryHappy998999 - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 I like the use of icons and audio alerts. This app is very useful. It only works if other people are on the "Trapster" network and help spot the cops. If people don't login and become active then the cop hot spots are stale and worthless. I try and update my cop hot spots as often as I can! Keep up the good work, and everyone should download this app so we can build a bigger database of COP hang outs!
This app saved me the first time I tried it. By: Randy in Seattle - Nov 30, 2009 Version: 3.5.1 The first time I used this app, the voice said "police often hide here." I noticed that I was approaching a little rise that I couldn't see over, and decided to slow down, even though I wasn't trying to speed. The guy behind me maintained his speed as I pulled into the right lane. Cresting the hill, there was a radar cop, staring down his gun like I was the buffalo and he was Bill. The cop nabbed the guy who had been behind me. Heck of a first experience. Now I always keep this app on when driving. I also like the fact that unlike the "Maps" app, the screen doesn't dim, so the map function is always there for reference. (Of course you have to plug in the charger or run out of juice very quickly). There are a few things I would improve, but having saved me a ticket gets my five star vote, for sure.
Genius! By: Eddie1975 - Jan 2, 2009 Version: 1.3 Very cool app - renders radar detectors nearly obsolete.
I mostly use the "police often hide here" and think it would be nice to have that button larger for easy reporting while driving.
Another suggestion would be a way to report temporary conditions, like road hazards indicating there may be a tire or tree on the road or ice or a wreck. This could give a warning like "road hazard ahead, prepare to slow down, stop or change lanes - proceed with extreme caution"
Great utility! Thanks!
GPS competition By: smanger - Nov 22, 2009 Version: 3.5.1 I got this way back, about a year ago and never used it. Driving from SF to Lv today and this is way better than the built in map for driving as it follows you on the map, no scrolling (make sure the locator icon is blue)! And I was cruising at 80+ and some guy wanted bye who was goin about 100 and just then the app gives a warning "police often hide here" and I let him pass and slow down, not 3 min later I see him pulled over! Like I said I've been waiting to use this and I can't believe it's still free. I'm going to use it along with my real GPS for now on. Way to go on prob the best free app for navigation out!Only thing I can't get to work is the notifications. Other than that,Well done
Trapster is AWESOME! BEST APP IDEA EVER! & it's FREE! By: Trapster RULEs - Aug 6, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 I love this application! it is all user based, so a big community is involved and helping each other out. This app has already saved me from getting a ticket, here in California. I was driving down to the beach, and I was alerted with "Live Police" & when I got to the the stop sign, there was a cop hiding on the sidewalk while on his motorcycle... I dunno about you, but sometimes I roll the stop sign, but not this time : ) Not only does this alert me of speed traps, but also Red Light Cameras, Speed Cameras, Mobile Speed Vehicles & D.U.I. Checkpoints! Loads up quickly, and I have no issues with this App, I am telling everyone I know about this, since the more people that use Trapster, the more accurate it will be! Kudos to you Trapster Developers! keep up the good work! 7/13/2009 Update-- This App is the best! Saved me again over the weekend!
this app saved me from atleast 2 tickets so far! By: aRiEs.iPhone - Aug 5, 2009 Version: 3.0.2 At 1st I wasn't too fond of the app, but I travel about 100 round trip miles a day for work so I figured I'll give it a shot. I really didn't get the idea it saved me from getting a nice speeding ticket. one day I was in hurry to get to work and was in and out of the carpool lane @ about 85 mph. My iPhone started vibrating, I check it out and a pop up notification said that there was a LIVE POLICE in the area. I slowed down as I unlocked the screen to check out cops location. Then as I go over a hill I see a CHP sitting on the side of the shoulder of the fwy but by then I was already down to about 70 mph.
Even though the app wasn't lightning fast to let me know the cops specific location, it gave me the warning that I needed. Since that day, I've been very grateful for this app and had reported every sinle police car I see on the side d the road or fwy.
But the thing about this app is it's user dependent, it's only as good as it's users since it depends on us to report what we see to warn others. But eversince I've been reporting on therefular basis, so have other people around me. I noticed that I get more alerts now than I used to before I started participating. My guess is that like myself, I saw how useful this app can be so I starte taking advantage of it's features. And since it benefited others like it benefited myself, they also decided to participate.

awesome By: Bradkali - Oct 9, 2009 Version: 3.5 Nothing to say but impressive. Has helped me miss those speed traps on several occasions. And has allowed me to spot speed traps and cops while walking, then reporting it directly to the trapster and those who are lucky enough to have this, miss the speed trap. And this app has a lot more than just speed traps, camera lights, live police, etc etc. It does all that it says it does. Real time traffic, my trips, recent trips, facebook, etc etc. Pretty awesome for a free app. Turn it on in your car, listen for the voice to warn you when you come up to the speed trap, etc etc. Awesome.
One of the most useful apps on the Iphone if you drive. By: Lazzaro Home - Dec 14, 2008 Version: 1.2 Basic idea is if you think back - Truckers used to do this exact function of this app. They would call over there CB radios if they drove by a cop to warn the other CB radio users that a cop was hiding at mile marker 45 on rt 32. This app is much more intuitive then calling out over the radio. You have a full map over where the cops are currently hiding, where cops normally hide, redlight cams, and traffic cams. With a netowrk boasting 100,000 user or more there is most much info to clearly get from A to B without getting a ticket. You don't need to worry you can rate other peoples notifications so you can see which on is probably where the cops lay.
What's with you people...... By: Lungho69 - Oct 8, 2009 Version: 2.4 Pigs don't know the law, they make it up. Unfortunately, the burdon of proof/innocents relies on you. These pigs know that when they slap you with a ticket doing 10 over when it was only 2. It's all designed to generate revenue for the city. Pigs don't give a crap about "saving lives."
To the punks in blue: You had better stand way off the shoulder of the road when writing your tickets. It'd be ashame if you got clipped by my car!
Mr By: V Careful - 26-Nov-2009 Version: 3.5.1 Great app. A must have for all drivers with an iPhone. Does away with the need for a paid for GPS app. You can concentrate on driving, especially in unfamiliar locations without having to be on constant lookout for revenue raising traps. Might slow you down when you realize how many traps, cameras and hiding places are out there. Will deplete the battery on long trips, get a cradle and charger. Could do with a battery saver mode that switches the screen off and just makes audable warnings. It's Google Maps ++++ !
hellz YEAH By: crazyrussian - Oct 6, 2009 Version: 3.5 this app is super, i have a pionner double din navi, which the iphone is connected to it through bluetooth, and it loudly and clearly states "patrol car hides here, with date, time" or "patrol car up ahead", through my cars speakers so no problem there the app never failed everytime it said that it either is a trap where I know cops hide there or there actually was a cop there. PLUS it shows u it with maps and u have it with satellite or hybrid.. I have it working under edge, and it still works excellent, the 3G would be a major plus for me, A+++++++ to the developer. Just a note this app is a super drain on battery life, any update that could fix that?
My favorite iPhone app! By: Jimjim3 - Nov 14, 2008 Version: 1.0.2 Wow LOTS of known speed traps and red light cams listed in my area so good usage but depends on enough people to put in actual on-scene police with laser so glad it's free - I'm telling all my friends with iphone and berry's this weekend and we'll try. App and map is fine but too many "police often hide here" so I set to only play sound once. Would be nice to have that setting per trap type. Also have to put settings to no screen lock, would be better if app coudl do.
Wow! By: pauldee - Jul 29, 2009 Version: 3.0.1 I live in DC and drove to the beach in DE. This app was not only spot on in warning me of red light cams but there were live police in two hiding spots I was warned about! I have 3Gs and have had zero problems with bugs or crashing. This app along with a radar will get you where you need to go fast and could save you big tine $$$
**Plug in the iPhone in your car to save battery life as the app does drain it quickly.
Awesome App - Too bad phone limits its use By: ER PAC - Oct 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.2 This is the perfect example of an application that is limited by the iPhone's "inability for apps to run in the background". Let's be honest, who wants this app running 100% of the time with your phone on in the car? No one does. This app is great, and what makes it even better is that it's free. It gives you a list of all the police, speed, & redlight traps in your local vicinity as reported by other users. The program will also give you live updates on locations as well as announcements (audible or vibrate) of each of the traps. You can also confirm or refute the accuracy of the trap. What a great driving adjunct. Now if only BMW would adopt this in their iDrive system.......
A must have app By: ShutdaPhuckUp - Jul 23, 2009 Version: 3.0.1 Been using this app for about a week now and I must say that I'm quite impressed with this app especially since it's free.
In the DC metro area there are a ton of red light, combo and mobile traps. This one catches pretty much all of them. There are several spots I know where cops hide out and set speed traps and this app catches most of those too. This is an app that I would've easily been willing to pay for but I'm glad this one is free.
The push notifications tend to get annoying at times but those can either be toned down or shut off altogether.
Only real complaint is how much battery life this app chews up. I'd recommend getting a car charger and possibly a windshield mount of somekind to fully utilize this thing.
Great app and hope future updates add to this app.
Works like a charm! By: jjcmontana - Oct 4, 2009 Version: 3.5 I've tried each feature, and everything works GREAT! I know of three very sneaky speed traps by my house, where motorcyle cops hide in dark corners, and all 3 showed right up on the map with accurate descriptions.
I was easily able to create an account and get it verified. I don't understand the hate reviews, or the idiot who thinks making a threat and giving a date. They're just not bright enough to figure it out, I guess!
Thanks for a spectacular app that truly delivers what it promises!
