Description:
Perfect for the student pilot, but useful for all aviation and flight enthusiasts. The Circuit Pattern Calculator is incredibly simple to use. 1. Select the circuit pattern direction (left or right handed turns). 2. Simply spin the compass rose until the runway/final heading shows at the top. 3. Now simply read off what your cross, downwind, and base leg headings. "I personally use several of the PunkStar Studio iPhone/iPod applications. Some, like the Cold Air Calculator, are incredibly useful for even the most advanced pilot, while others, like the Hold Pattern Calculator, are perfect for demonstrations with my students (who are thrilled when they see it for the first time). I'm a loyal customer/user of several of the PunkStar Studio apps (even non-aviation related) and look forward to their future releases. I highly recommend their products to all aviators, from the professional airline pilot and flight instructor to the casual pilot." - Ed Pasquale ATPL Transport Canada Pilot Examiner and Seneca College Flight Instructor

Reviews:
I bought this program so I could write an honest review. By: C172Pilot - Aug 27, 2008 Version: 1.1 Obvisously this a utility that should NEVER be used while navigating in the pattern. That said, it may help some pilots that have some problems with the mental math. Use it before you take off if you have to. The resolution is a bit high. Could the programmer please make it so it reads out in 10 degree increments? There is no runway 66 or 273. Some one ask for the 45 degree entry into the pattern. The programmer has added it, but please be aware, the value is not the value on the side you are entering. That value is displayed in the opposite corner.
Very Nice By: MRSushi - Aug 19, 2008 Version: 1.0 If you are a pilot, and need to use this, then it is time to hang up your wings. However, as a teaching tool, it is a very handy graphical training device.
Almost Perfect!!! By: USPilot - Aug 17, 2008 Version: 1.0 The author just needs to add the 45 degree pattern entry numbers and it will be totally perfect.

Does the job By: Craigc0299 - 06-Aug-2009 Version: 1.2 It does the job, would be great to be able to manually enter the runway number as the dial can be tricky.
Does as it claims By: cowtowncor - 27-Jan-2009 Version: 1.1 The only thing I would change would be the widget for picking the heading. Great app.
Very useful, could be improved By: Flying00000099999 - 29-Oct-2009 Version: 1.2 Great ap for practicing patterns. Low hours PPL and find it useful as a reminder. Should only increment in 10 degree steps since runways are rounded to nearest 10 degs anyway. At the moment is very fiddly to get the right angle selected. As another user suggests a direct input would be even more useful.
Needs an update By: Ferraf - Oct 23, 2008 Version: 1.1 Like the concept for planning headings before a flight just for fun. My only issue is a runnway heading is In 10 degree increments. Dialing it to the single digit is to much. The author should purchase a training aide from sportys and see 10 degree increments would work much better; also add the approx heading for a 45 degree entry for a downwind for a left or right traffic.
Needs more work By: iaincoop - 29-Oct-2008 Version: 1.1 Doe's what it says on the tin, a common way of describing applications these days. Useful if you are learning to fly or doing circuits on a flight simulator, experienced pilots should know these headings, my advice is to right down the headings once obtained. It is very difficult to obtain the exact runway departure heading, this is obtained by rotating the bezel until departure runway heading is reached, however in practice this is difficult as it keeps skipping off slightly. Needs a direct keypad input! Developers please note!
Not ready for prime time By: Student pilot for life - Apr 28, 2009 Version: 1.1 Great idea, needs work, and price reduction. NOT worth $1.99. The runway should rotate rather than the compass rose (or it should be an option). And as stated in other reviews the headings should be in 10 degree increments with a graphical 45 degree entry. ALL of my free apps have more functionality than this relatively expensive program. It COULD be so good. Not yet.
