Reviews:
Great App! By: BIG!GFX - Aug 15, 2009 Version: 1.1 I'm on vacation back home in a small town and was driving 15 minutes to the nearest Starbucks for the AT&T hotspot because my phone didn't pick up any local wifi connections like it always has in the past. I was able to download this over 3G and it told me where multiply spots were just minutes away. Places my phone didn't even pick up!
I think it should be called a wifi directory instead of finder since it gives you the names of established hotspots not open wifi like someones home
Ok guys. Can't you think? By: cragler.com - Oct 22, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 I see the reviews and seriously most of them are retarted.First of all, this is for on the go. If your hotel has wifi, you can find free wifi spots at your destination at your convenience instead of driving around to find a wifi spot.Second of all, YOUR WIFI SYSTEM IS NOT A FREE PUBLIC WIFI SPOT I mean seriously, have you ever wondered why you can't get on your neighbors wifi? CUZ U NEED A PASSWORD DUMMY. Third of all, yes you need wifi to connect. duh.If you know how to use it correctly (and I doubt most of you even get the point) this app does what it says it does. Seriously guys.
Don't listen to the reviews, it's good! By: Jellotime91x - 19-Jul-2009 Version: 1.1 The people reviewing this app do not know what they are talking about. It does exactly what it's supposed to. I think the stupid iPod touch users are REALLY dumbing down the app store. They shouldn't be allowed to review things because they have the brain capacity of peanuts. "you need wifi to find wifi" yeah duh!! Of course you need an Internet connection you idiot!!
"it can't even tell me I have wifi in my house" duh you idiot this app is for finding hotspots in local businesses!! You know you have wifi in your house so why would you need an app to tell you that?? Damn idiots.
Anyway the app is perfect. It does a great job doing exactly what it's supposed to.
RTFM: App does what it says, pretty well, and for free By: Xianator - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 1.1 (Hey kids, read the darn manual: this is a *free* app for finding free Hot-Spots, not for connecting to paid hotspots, or hacking into secured ones, or magically getting data service where you have no data service. You want a magic wand? Go find somebody who will sell you one, and let me know how that turns out, OK?) The app provides a pretty good list of free hotspots, as promised. In New York City especially, it's accurate, if not totally complete. However, this app, combined with a Yelp search for "Wi-Fi", should hook you up pretty well. Just note that things come and go famously quickly in New York, and some of their listings have been closed for at least a few months, if not longer. But, especially if you have built-in GPS, this'll locate you quickly and hand you decent listings, plus a map of how to get there. Note that this requires some access to mobile data, but not to Wi-Fi, as stated by incorrect previous reviewer. Also note that there is an occasional glitch where it gets hung up and says "data service not available", or something like that. Not sure if this is iPhone OS bug, or their bug, but it resolves itself after using another data app, then coming back. App would be much more useful if it allowed crowd-sourced feedback, and addition of new locations, but it's free, so, hey.
Works great By: Stormlifter - Aug 19, 2009 Version: 1.1 For those of you confused by the marvels of technology...
This app doesn't actually search for WiFi signals. It pulls information from a database. Which is much more useful when trying to find a WiFi connection on the go.
The reason it needs Internet to find the connections is because it has to ask the database where the connections are as it isn't using the built in WiFi to find it as the range would be a few feet instead of this app that can search miles.
4 stars becase it needs offline viewing by downloading the database locally.
Misleading description By: WB333 - Oct 24, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 People seem to expect this app to detect wi-fi, like the Wifinder app. It's a simple directory of wi-fi hotspots. When the developer says it uses GPS and triangulation to find hotspots near you, he/she implies this is something special, but it's just using your present location to compute distances to the hotspots in the directory and list them according to how close they are. It's a handy directory, but it's not Wifinder.
Just like the web app By: barcodez - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.1 Nice app, great UI. It tells you where local hotspots are based on their online database. Use it to plan your day or find a place near you to settle down. I love the ability to filter my results. The only change I'd make is add the ability to search by establishment name and integrate with the map to show you lots of points nearby instead of just one at a time. Note: for those already with an internet connection. Those who downloaded thinking they were going to find hidden WiFi connections will be disappointed.
Canada is included By: runcojohn - 30-May-2009 Version: 1.0 It's just a bad GUI design. Tap on "Country" and a scrollable menu is displayed where you can choose Canada (or othere countries) I had to punch in my location because the App couldn't find me (although "Maps" ap has no trouble locating me. You need to be connected to the net to get at the data base. Once you've gotten a selection of access points you can book mark them. Tap on the "Map" within the bookmark and the app switches to the "Map" app where you can plot your course. Sweet. 4 Stars due to poor GUI though.
Awesome app By: Hmb123321 - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 Awesome and for iPhone only idiots hahah works like a charm too
Does what it says By: SmokyBlue - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 Worked well for me in Santa Monica. Contrary to what several people have posted you do not need to be on Wi-Fi for this app to work. Wish I would have had this on my trip to Japan...
Only for iPhone By: Bobbythebutler - Sep 22, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 Not for iPod Touch bc it needs Internet connection from 3G or EDGE, not Wi-Fi from iPod Touch.
Wow!!! By: TheQween_USA - Sep 21, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 It's wonderful
nice By: TheHeathcliff - Sep 21, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 nice to use it
cool By: Luckycoin - Sep 19, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 It's a cool app
Excellent By: tomishere - Sep 19, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 very nicely made
Works Great! By: Puradicton - Sep 15, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 App worked just as described. I even live in an area where the population isnt that high in the off season and it still pulled up over 20 wifi spots. And someone posted that you need wifi to use, this isn't true.
Excellent database By: Mike66215 - Nov 20, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 This app is an excellent database of free Wi-Fi locations. The app is not a realtime Wi-Fi search tool. You would haveto be in close range for that to work. But this app does tell you where free Wi-Fi are located so you can drive to get in range. Outstanding database.
Odres Nuevos By: Varo Torres - Nov 19, 2009 Version: 1.3.1 JESUCRISTO, es el Unico que posee palabras de Vida Eterna para todo aquel que lo reconoce y acepta como su Señor y Salvador...
Awesome By: Zachb97 - Sep 9, 2009 Version: 1.1 It's actually very well done I was able to find local places that had free wifi which is pretty cool in my book
Works great in Vancouver Canada By: tim_john77 - 25-Nov-2009 Version: 1.3.1 I found 50 free wifi spots when using the "near me" or searching for "Vancouver" under city. I did not verify any of the listings but I know some of then are valid and have used them in the past.Great app!
