Reviews:
A very useful App. By: NTHM - Oct 14, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 I'll start my review by saying that I used an earlier version of Red Laser when I first purchased my 3GS. The older version lasted only a few days before it was deleted, as it was too much of a hassle, and yielded poor results. This version, however, is fantastic! I was reluctant to pay the $1.99, because of my previous qualms over the product, but decided to go through with it anyway... Boy, was I glad I did. I was able to get product info on every product I tried, except for products with extremely high gloss (like highly polished aluminum.) I don't think that will pose a problem, however, as nearly no products are packaged in this manner. I think that a feature that allows users to check product ratings/reviews from sources such as CNET would be an excellent addition, but even without such a feature, the product deserves 5 stars. I strongly suggest that EVERYONE get this app. The potential savings are well worth the $1.99 price tag.
Works GREAT on iPhone 3G By: dzumini - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 I have an iPhone 3G and was concerned that without a 3GS this app wouldn't work as well. I'm happy to report it works amazingly well! Often the image on the screen will be blurry, but the app recognized EVERY barcode I threw at it - from books, to movies, to games, even the peanut butter in my cupboard! It's super easy & super fast - well worth the $1.99!! The only thing I would ask for, and I'm not alone in this, is integration with the GPS to grab my location and offer up prices for nearby stores. It's already a great little app, but with a feature like that it would be indispensible.
Truly Amazing App - Best Utility of the Year By: markbyrn - Oct 3, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 I had low expectations for this app thinking the camera scan interface would be overly complicated. Not only what I was wrong as the bar code scanning is miraculously easy and near instaneous, but the database depth for the product look-up is fantastic. The only negative is I'm obsessed with running around and scanning every bar code in sight. Kudos to Occipital for putting out a truly useful app.
Great app By: Me in Texas - Oct 2, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 But a few negatives.
Scanning does not work that great with my 3g iPhone on smaller items or smaller bar codes. This is because the camera is kinda crappy and has issues focusing, but you can enter the number manually.
Update;
This app will save me more than the cost in 1 shopping visit. However there are a few things to note: as I mentioned above it has trouble because of the camera in the 3g phone with small or curved bar codes. I'd guess the 3gs is much better because it has a better camera. Also, after 4-5 scans in a row it seems to open the camera without the bar code lines and becomes useless at this point. Closing the program and reopening fixes it.
Most useful shoping app By: jonnyqwest - Oct 3, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 This app is so useful when your out and you find a product you want. Everyone knows what ever you can buy in a store it's most likely cheaper online somewhere. With this app you find the product in the store, scan it and find it cheaper online from many different sites. I used to write down the product name and then search it when I got home. This does it all for me. Great app. Well worth the two bucks. The first purchase I made with it saved me WAY more. This app will save you $$$$$$$$!!!!!!!
Don't Hesitate! By: Nevarmihnd - Oct 22, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 FAST PROCESSING: I showed my mother this app at a well-known video game retailer. Maybe 60 seconds after I whipped out my phone, it had 'scanned' the barcode on a $49.99 copy of The Sime 3 and brought back a list of results. It took longer to explain it to her than to put it in action.USEFUL RESULTS: I had purchased from at least 3 of the retailers in the results, so I didn't feel compelled to research a bunch of miscellaneous companies before choosing. I ended up buying the game for $38 w/free shipping. There was at least one cheaper place; but I opted to go the easier "1-click" route from my iPhone with a seller that already had my info saved. ACCURATE SCANNING: I've used it several times now with no issues. It's impressive that it is both quick and accurate; especially since the image of the barcode I see on the screen has always been crooked and blurry (my hands aren't too steady).EASY TO USE: It's nice that you don't have to determine just the right moment to release the camera shutter. Just at hold the phone over the product so the barcode's within the onscreen brackets and it captures the image on it's own. This saves people like me a lot of hassle who, left to our own devices, would waste time fussing over lighting, focus, distance and even angle. I have used, and abandoned, similar apps for just that reason. SAVES MONEY (Potentially, at least): The money saved on The Sims more than paid for this app, in just one transaction! I'm sure I'll save a lot more money on purchases between now and the end of the year. I need it: now that she's seen this app, mom wants an iPhone for Christmas.
So much fun By: missionig - 07-Nov-2009 Version: 2.2.0 This is addictive and more of a toy to me than anything else. I wanted to buy more of a particular juice drink and couldn't remember which shop I had bought it from. Zap and there it was. I found the name of the store. I also had great satisfaction when I zapped my power monkey from Carphone Warehouse that for some strange reason only cost me £6.95. The cheapest on the scanner was circa £30. ! I love it and you can spend hours with your friends who don't have the iPhone and are amazed at this "wizardry" :-).
A Hagglers Must have!! By: Pepsimo - 02-Oct-2009 Version: 2.2.0 ***Update***I AM in the UK and this works seemlessly! I am offered several places of choice after scanning. For everyone who is saying it doesn't work, or they're suspicious of the 5 reviews, check your settings! It's NOT the Dev's fault or the App that's to blame, it's clearly the user!!
****Review****
Oh my god! This has to be THE 'must' have App for everyone who is serious about saving money! It's NOT a gimmick or a party trick, it's a real scanner!! You can just picture the scene can't you? You're in a store, checking out that gadget, product etc that you've been eager to buy or saving up for, when the sales guy asks if he can help? "Yes, you can help, could you please let me see the box this item comes in"? Bring out Red Laser, scan the barcode, then let battle commence!
Watch the sales assistants face fall when you proudly say, "Oh I would so love to buy this product from your shop today, but according to my accurate info, courtesy of Red Laser, I can purchase this item for 'X' amount of £'s, (in some cases £100's), cheaper from another shop"!! Haggle haggle haggle!
No longer will you pay through the nose for something then discover a little while later that you could have saved yourself a fortune had you only been aware of it being sold cheaper in another store or online! In my opinion, if you use Red Laser before purchasing anything ever again then you're more or less guaranteed to find it at the cheapest price possible, at that time.
The speed at which it scans is lightening! I kept saying to myself that it surely couldn't have scanned it accurately, not THAT quick? But yes, it does scan very quick and accurately too. It displays the name of the item and manufacturer plus 'Prices from' £? then a list below with details of where to buy and how much it is in that shop! Naturally it won't find anything if you scan a shops own branded barcode! How can it when that barcode is exclusive to THAT shop? So anyone saying this App doesn't work, get a grip and scan something else that isn't exclusive & shop branded!
A 'must' have buy with from me. Thanks guys for an awesome App
Needs more features By: TrickyCalifornia - Sep 27, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 Rated five stars, but it miscanned (got a wrong ISBN number once when my 3GS was scanning a can (curved surface). I think there should be a manual option of when to activate the scanning to prevent this I think it made the mistake cause it started scanning too early during focus maybe. Also it needs more management features like allowing me to inventory books in my library or the items in my fridge and stuff like that. Overall works great though so five stars!
Great Fun By: Hongdadd - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 Go to a store. Scan the item you are interested in purchasing and find out the cost of what other places are selling the same product for. There is a built-in email interface so you can conveniently email yourself the findings instantly. Also, it is fun to scan everything you can get your hands on with a bar code just to challenge the app. "will it recognize this product?" I am amazed at how great this application works. It'll save you a ton of money by letting you know if you can purchase elsewhere for a better price.

Holy *#@(*% it works! By: mruniball - Sep 23, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 It works! I downloaed with a lot of skepticsm and was so amazed. I don't even have to take a picture, it just does it by itself. I'm truly amazed. I have so many apps and never write a review, but this time I just couldn't keep silent. You have done great work. Congratulations! If I may suggest one thing: I'd love to take inventory of items at home, just in case I have to submit a claim to my insurance or to the police. If you add a feature that allows serial number and inventory list it would be amazing. Again, great work!
Excellent, Inexpensive, Easy to use! By: tshramek - Nov 16, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 This is very useful if you like to priceshop, and do not mind ordering products online. It makes it easy to look at many sites for the best price, while also ensuring you are comparing apples-to-apples by getting the exact model information from the UPC. It is very simple to use. I have been able to easily scan UPC's in low light, on both hard and soft packaging, even rounded surfaces. You will save the $1.99 on your first purchase.
Saved me 10 times the cost. By: KWH2009 - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 I bought this app out of curiosity to see if it really worked. After loading it I went around the kitchen scanning things and was satisfied that it worked well. The next day I was in a local warehouse store and found a multi-disk Blu-Ray set for what I thought was a good price. Before putting it in my cart I decided to try Redlaser. It turned out to be a good price but another store online had it for $10 less. The single Blu-Ray I checked next was $6 less. I bought them both online and saved $16 including shipping. Later that day I bought a thumb support at a local pharmacy. When I got home I checked it with Redlaser and found it online for $6 less. I bought two more online. In one day I saved $26 with this app including the cost of the app. I can't say that about any other app!
Absolute best app out there, just wish I could search newegg and ebay! By: ClosetMonster3 - Oct 9, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 Extremely fast app. Many times I barely get the barcode in alignment before it snaps the picture and finds the item. Super fast! Does a great job of finding items throughout the web. I would like to see dedicated searches for ebay, newegg, half, and other well known sites. Al least having them show up would be great. I know they show up in Google shopping but they dont show up in this app as of today. This app is well suited for electronics, books, media, etc. Not so much for food. It gives me food prices of items either in bulk or from an online supermarket, which I am not going to buy from. Kinda defeats the purpose of scanning food items. What would be good is if the app developers could somehow get the prices of supermarkets, savemart, food4less, trader joes, etc. I dont know how that would be done since they would have to have access to the stores current prices on thousands of items. Maybe talk with the companies to get access to their database of prices? Convince the supermarkets this could be a profitable avenue for sales, marketing and distribution. The developers could also make a nice chunk of change for doing advertising for the supermarkets...think of the endless possibilities for reaching customers! That would be wonderful if that could happen. If it did happen, the developers could add a shopping list persay for buyers to see the prices before going and getting the best prices at the best place! In all, nothing else comes close to barcode scanning. I tried the free Cyclops barcode scanner and it blew chunks compared to this app! I have yet to get a mistake from this app!
Awesome By: Theophilus1 - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 This is my favorite app as of today. I found myself in Best Buy,yesterday, all over the store scanning barcodes, to the point that a security guard came up to me asking if everything was ok! I was a little embarassed cause I was caught in the moment. I was bargin shopping!( go figure alot of Best Buy prices are over priced 5-20+) I even bought something on the spot, using this app price comparing via Internet! If this app included something like cnet.com reveiews, or reviews is general, for me it would go in the App hall of fame, yellow coat and all. So I even convince 3 people in the store to buy this app! I should get some kick back money!!! :) great app!!
Already saving money By: brianmhite - Oct 28, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 I wanted to buy blank CDs. Asked the employee at Target how much they cost because I found them in the wrong place and couldn't find the price. He pulled out his scanner and scanned it to tell me the price. That reminded me that I have a scanner for the best deals on my phone. I gave it a try. Found it for $3 cheaper on there. From where? Best Buy, which was in the same shopping center as this particular Target. I showed the employee the price I found and he gave me for $4 off! The app has already paid for itself and more! I will be using this a lot more from now on!!
Latest version is great By: EvilSpudBoy - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 2.2.0 The old version of this app was so bad I took it off my phone. It was hard to scan and then it would come up with a UPC that wasn't even close.
So then a new version comes out and it is like night and day. It scans quickly and very accurately. It is everything I had hoped the previous version would be and more. It even scans well when the lighting isn't that even.
Also I should note that my experience is with running the app on an iPhone 3gs.
WOW! It Actually Works! By: Dynesy - 06-Nov-2009 Version: 2.2.0 I wasn't sure about this app and this is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review, so it must actually be good enough or I probably wouldn't have bothered! All I can say is that it actually works, as I have used it many times in HMV just to see what I would be paying if I had ordered it online instead! So you could say that this app has also saved me quite a few pounds since I started using it! Buy it! You won't regret it! Highly recommended!!!!
