Alot Under One Icon!
By: Coldar - Dec 30, 2008
Used it on my older Treo and missed it. This application is a winner in all aspects. It is just like when I had it before. Same stability and always reliable with updated/current news and sport scores and events. Pocket Express has it all under one icon! If you don't have it your missing out on a very reputable application that has an excellent track record and a big favorite of other handheld devices and would normaly have to pay for this service. I think this would go for $5 but they are letting us have it for free. Thank you Pocket Express!
I love it

Love the applicaltion. Highly recomend that you download it to your phone. It makes it so easy for me to look up all the information that I check regularly on my iphone and puts it all in one place. i have checked out some of the other applications and i have found this one to be the most complete, most thorough/accurate, and the most frequently updated. It is programs like this one that make the 3g phone worth purchasing.

This is by far the app I use most often! I especially like how thorough the weather app's info is. Every time I see a friend with a new BlackBerry or iPhone, I take it and install this app. I get a heartfelt 'thank you' every time as soon as they use it. The only reason for the missing fifth star is the lack of Canadian content: no Candian news, CFL, adding Canadian theatres can be tricky at times and some smaller Canadian cities are missing from the weather map- ie, Banff. Overall, very well done. Keep up the good work!
Finally...My Pocket Express is Back!

When I went from the Treo to the iPhone, the only thing I missed was Pocket Express. While I was a Sprint customer, I got addicted to this app, and I am thrilled to have it back finally for the iPhone. I had no problems installing or creating accounts, etc, so I can't speak to any of the concerns anyone else had, other than to say my experience has been problem free. And as for an app, it is definitely one of my favorites! For anyone wwho finds themselves frustrated with ATT's lousy network, this program is definitely for you. It brings the content to you instead of havsing to retrieve it the painfully slow way. A must have!

Weather, news, and movies in one app! I tried some other news apps, but load times were aweful. Between this and the newsgator app I have all the news I need.
The weather and movie data is accurate. I don't really use the other sections, but I'm sure they work fine.
One thing for sure it saves space, because I don't need several apps to read news, check weather, movie listings, and stock market...
A section for personal feeds and a news search beyond the stories the app collects, like by State for local news, would be nice.
All and all I am happy with this app and I have been using it since it first got released.

Alas, Pocket Express for the iPhone still lacks all the content that it has on its BlackBerry and other platforms but they have been adding the content. Pocket Express updates quickly without crashing and you can read its content without crashing; NY Times reader fails in both of those areas.
The price is right now (FREE) for Pocket Express and it is well worth getting. I suspect they will ultimately begin to charge once the rest of the content is in place. As it is now, Top News, Red's Blog, US News, World News, Entertainment, Politics, Technology, Strange News, Health and Wellness, Science, MLB, NFL and sports News, Weather, Finance, Entertainment news all are up and running and work great.
Still awaiting to be added are Horoscopes and Movies and an integrated Travel section (launches web app for now.) The version on the BlackBerry offered real time flight information so it is a safe bet that this is in the works for the iPhone version. It is also a safe bet that other sports scores will be added aside from MLB and NFL.
Bottom line, very clean interface, updates quickly and doesn't crash while using it; it is basically everything that NY Times' Reader is not.
Love my Express. Try it! 5/5

I had it on my Palm Treo and loved it. Was dissapointed to lose it when getting iphone. The selection of stories are good and the layout is good. Was very happy to see an iphone version and am looking forward to updates. Don't worry about some functions under development because what is working on this version is still great. The best use for me is that it loads all the stories in memory so I can access all the data when not connected. Its like having a daily newspaper in your pocket. I fly a lot. This is one of my favorite apps. I can sit in the airport on wifi, update express, and read all the news etc during flight. Kills a few hours. Try it. DEVELOPERS: please consider zoom to pictures - sideways view - ability to increase font size - ability to have more than 10 stories. Looking forward to updates. Hurry up! :) 5/5
Cool App - simplifies life

I had an initial problem configuring, but now that is cleared up and the app looks & works great. This app was highlighted at WWDC in the usability session. It has tons of features and services that work well. It can easily replace your other news readers, weather watchers, sports updates, etc. It worked great on my Blackberry and now looks and works great on my iPhone. Ignore the negative reviews and check it out for yourself now that the activation works.

This app is great at having up to date news. It's got all the cool extras too, like movie times, weather, sports scores and others too. I check it constantly throughout the day and every night before bed. I love the strange news, which can be quite funny.
Ideas for an update:
A search section and archive section, so I can look up old/past articles.
A favorite button so I can save the articles I want to remember.
Thanks for a great app.

The live scoring updates are great for soccer, EPL stats in detail instantly updating, can't wait to see NFL...
Could have much better sports news coverage (I can't really figure out any sports news besides scores)... But the news reader is very good otherwise.. Only other thing I think they could improve is letting you completely create your own custom main menu with your own titles, but it is 100 times better than navigating mobile web pages for sports scores and has richer content.
Pocket Express for the iPhone

I miss some of the function from my Palm Treo that Pocket Express performed, such as, 411 Information which would Look-Up numbers, avoiding what is soon to be a $2 call if not already. Express has everything a man would need except the toilete paper. For me it's the perfect balance between news & entertainment, sports & scientific pursuits, and art & politics without becoming entangled in simplistic journalism ala USA Today.

I am nit given to writing reviews but I must say that the implementation of pocket express on the iPhone is very good. In one app you have access to sports where you cN follow your favorite teams including those football teams one might have become attached to overseas! The news is similar to many other news readers so not much to crow about there. The movies and weather however are very nice as well an well implemented. The real beauty of thus app however is that it combines all of these things into one app! Very well done.
Very Good App!!

From some of the reviews, you can tell that they have not *really* checked out the program. We used to pay $70 a year for a similar service on the Palm & Pocket PC... The great news is this is free! I stayed away from loading this program due to all the negative reviews, but I finally installed it & have had *none* of the problems I had read about. It may not be perfect, but the company behind it will keep improving it. Handmark makes some great apps on other platforms, and I'm sure they will for the iPhone too.
Does the job nicely

The only parts of this app I need are the ones already there, so I'm not bothered (for example) that clicking on Travel takes me to a web site. My main interest is news, and Pocket Express does a better job formatting AP stories than AP's own app. (An exception is pictures: some end up squished like a widescreen picture shoehorned into a standard TV screen.) News articles can be refreshed with a simple click of the button. Pretty stable, too, unlike the AP program, which continue to crash on me several times a day. Weather info nicely organized. One star off for squishing pictures and for not letting me specify a mile radius when locating nearby movie theaters.
Pretty Cool App

I just downloaded this app and really enjoy it. My only request to the developer is that it would be so great if you could add NCAA football to the sports category. I have looked all over for an app that would provide the college football season schedules and have been unsuccessful.
It is obvious that this app is still in the works since some portions of it say "Coming Soon". However, I know this is one that I will refer to often. Put in college sports and I'll give it 5 stars.

This app works great, a little slow, but give it a sec to load up... The weather on this app is better then then the other. Weather apps an it seems to me more accurate.... I have sports tap app, but the sports section on expess is better then the sports tab.. It still needs some upgrades as it is indicated when you try to open horacopes or some other tabs, but in a matter if time this app will be a must have.. All I can say is Grab it before you will hve to pay for it... But this app is def a $3 app..

A common story, it seems: former Treo user now happy to have it back on the iPhone. Limited implementation keeps me from giving it 5 stars, but the feel is very natural for the iPhone and seems even easier than the Treo (either version, PalmOS or WM6). One thing that wasn't clear was the location management on the Weather applet. No apparent feedback when the location is successfully created, nor did the "Current Location" seem to work, though that could have been from the lack of obvious feedback too. I used to pay for this app on the Treo. Now I see there's spare real estate for ad space, which takes the price pretty much where I like it.

It is unfortunate that the users experiencing issues with the app take thier frustrations out by bad mouthing it. What I find ironic is that the same "haters" reporting this app as "crashing their iPods and iPhones" are not fully comprhending how to choose from "write a review" and "report a problem." I think it would be helpful if you haters spend more time on learning your iStuff in addition to signing up for some anger management course, then maybe "free" apps will stay free. Just a thought.

Like Everyone else initially I had the same problem. It did freeze up while trying to create an account and I also figured the server might have been busy, because I tried on the day the iphone 3g dropped. I love this App and I also have it on my cell phone. The only problem is since it is new, a lot of the other features in it haven't been updated yet. If they did work I would have given it 5 stars. I just kept going in and out of it then i let it sit and then it created my account and now it works fine.
