Its a handy app...BUT... it takes a couple of hours to update from the web reports.
So, first thing in the morning you won't be using it, you'll be going to the website or the ugly mobile surfline.
But its free, and has all the tide and other relevant info for the breaks listed, so warrants 5 stars.
PERFECT navigation and layout. Nice, clean interface.
You can just leave it on your home break and one click can take you to your list of favorites.
5 stars if you are in Cali.

This is the app I use the most... and it was free! Lucky! Unlike some paid apps, this one even includes world sites. I live in Japan and have my favorite spots saved, but can quickly scroll through to see my other favorite spots in the world, US, HI, Aus, and so on. I only wish there were some way to submit more sites, as in my area they are limited; but! The winds, swell, and tide information are absolutely essential to my daily life.

I've only had my iPhone the last few months, but this has undoubtedly become the most useful app I have. I've read other reviews which state that it doesn't have tide info, but every break I've checked it for has had comprehensive tide info, and I live in OC and surf LA and SD a lot. So perhaps, those reviews were written concerning an earlier version or the people writing them have trouble scrolling down? Don't know, but anyway, thanks to Surfline and Oakley for what I feel is the best app available, free or otherwise. If you surf and own an iPhone, then this is a must have.

This app rocks. It's what I've been waiting for.

Okay so this app freaking rocks!!!!
Surfing is my favorite weekend and the occasional dawn patrol activity. I used to stop and go to my computer to get the surf forecasts for my favorite beaches. Now I can just get in my car and figure out where to go surf on my way to the beach.
I think my favorite things about this app are,
1. the pro surfers favorite beach link. Now I can surf where they do.
2. the map link allows me to now find the beaches I've heard about but never knew where they were.
3. quick access to surf height and tide times.
Not to mention the killer design. Great job Oakley and Surfline!
UPDATE: I bumped you from 4 to 5 stars for fixing the tides issue. Tides shows up on all beaches now!!!! Thanks!

Finally, a great app to check out the surf conditions from my iPod or iPhone! I really love that Oakley I'd on the ball with this kinds stuff! Ahead of the curve in many ways, I am a customer of their sunglasses sine about 1987-88ish. Thank you SO much Oakley (everyone involved, artists, devs, code people, surfline, etc.) for making an app just like this. I would also love to see some features added as mentioned by some others, but REFUSE to lower my rating, as this is a cutting edge entry for all surf and ocean loving people! GREAT JOB OAKLEY AND SURFLINE!

Can't Understand The Low Rating ?Obviously Maths ( averages) Isn't My Strong Point.
This Is A Great Application, It Doesn't Include All The Breaks In The Uk And We Would Like A Few More, But It's A Start.
Could Also Do With Some Forcasting Capability In The Future, Just To Make It Really Easy For Us.
Obviously, You Need To LInk It To Wi-Fi, But It's Also Got Some Great Video Available Also.
It's Easy To Use, Doesn't Crash And You Can Check Out Breaks All Over The World.
I Look Forward To Further Updates And More Uk Breaks.

This is nicely designed and has genuinely useful information about surf and beach conditions like water temperature and tide times. Not bad for free! But am disappointed that we Aussies appear to miss out again - no weather forecast information available for any of the Aussie beaches I tried. :-(
A couple of suggestions to the creators:
1) How about changing the high contrast black/white beach info graphic to something a bit softer on the eye?
2) Would it be possible to load info for all my favourite beaches in one go? As it is, takes 5s or more to get full info for each Sydney beach - makes it hard to browse through all local beaches to find best conditions.

What's the tide?????

Almost better then the GreenRoom app. Better graphics on this one; clean and simple giving you all the info you need on your "favorite" surf spots EXCEPT THE TIDES!!!! Tide information should be one of the highest priorities. Comeon surfline/oakley Please Please Please add the tide info, how did that slip through the cracks? It is a little slow in 3G.
Great price...... for now, just waiting for the other shoe to drop and they start charging like they did with their website.

Thank you Surfline and Oakley for giving away this app, it's terrific. One Big Bummer: I see tide info for only 1 of my fav locations - This is a feature which should Not have been overlooked and should be fully integrated into the app. One Small Bummer: and I do feel greedy about complaining at all since this app really is so stellar for the price; the app loads a bit slow, a few times I started to question if it was crashing because it took so long to load data. Kinda fun being able to access News. Thanks again, this surfing mom is stoked to have this on her iPhone - Now go write the code so we can all have Tide Info ; - )

Perfect app but for 3 small things

Obviously this was a much anticipated app. Does what you want, which is gives you the reports! Beautiful UI. My only 3 complaints are:
1. Does not provide tide info, which is so key its not funny. Why this was omitted I have no idea. I mean they have all the data you could want including sunrise/sunset info but no tide info?
2. It's somewhat of a performance hog and feels slow when using it. I assume that this is due to the 100% customization of the the UI (which, once again, is beautiful) but performance definitely needs to be taken into account in 1.1. Through much of the app you end up touching things twice because you think your first touch didn't register when it's actually just "thinking" for a second. Key mantra for iphone apps is the "feel" of the app. Any good development team can take a que for Apple's native apps in that they trade speed for performance IE: an app may take a certain amount of time to do something, but to the touch it never feels slow.
3. Also, can we do some background loading? I have 4 spots and I think that they should load in the background so I can quickly thumb through them. Kinda annoying to look at a spot, look at another, and then come back to the first spot and it has to reload the data again. When I'm out surfing I'm on edge/3g so as much background loading and caching of report data as possible is key. Its safe to assume that majority of the app use will not be on WI-FI.
Even though that sounds like a long list of complaints it's purely creative criticism. This app is so key to a surfer. One of those apps that would make a surfer switch to an iphone just to have. Great 1.0 and looking forward to 1.1. Excellent work Oakley. P.S. You can't argue with the price :-)

The app is awesome, really like the Near Me GPS feature. Hopefully photos and cams are up next. The video quality on the phone is insane, now I can watch Surfline videos on the go. Great job Surfline and Oakley.

i really like this app and its free i think its really awesome! it takes the guess work out just before i head out for a surf,nothing worse than driving an hour and a 1/2 finding its flat.thanks guys wot a grouse app...

Very polished, nice UI. One addition that would be nice is to have the google map location feature be intigrated within the app (if possible); hence when you close the map it returns you to your guys app, previous location.

You guys are priceless. This thing us so inaccurate that when it gives you a figure of flat or 1ft on the phone. In reality it's 6ft and pumping. Thanks for keeping everyone out of the water hoping for better days.......!

Buy I wish it would load a little faster.
